- don't use anything that is cardboard, they will chew right threw the box. If you have smooth plastic then you will be ok, but if it is a plastic bin that has any ruff edges that they can get a tooth on, then they may try to chew through it. Wood is nice, but you will only have the top open to view. You would really need to try and not have a metal base because it can rust from the urine of the hamster. I would recomend going to your local pet store, or walmart, because they have 10 gallon terrariums that usually only cost 10.00 or so.
- my friend has a lot of hamsters and she has a big plastic tub (storage kind) and cut the inside of the lid out and put in a metal slatted top on for air, cut a little hole in the side for the wheel and hey presto. hope this helps. x
- i had this problem too when fluffy and curumino nearly killed each other and needed to be separated.get a big plastic container,(size exactly depends on # of hamsters u own)fill it with wood chips,a cotton ball, somewhere to hide(thats what mine spend most of their time doing) one of those wheels that u dont need to hang on the bars(so they dont get fat)and two small containers 4 food and water.:D
- Bin cages are easy and great for hamsters. http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&q=hamster+bin+cages&btnG=Search+Images Many of those pictures will have instructions. Read through a couple of sets of instructions; there's no single right way.
