- A rat no beacuse it will get to big but a gerbail or a hampster yes as long as yours didnt die from a desise and just make sure to clean the cage!!
- sure!! just clean it really good before you put a new on in it. a gerbil can but they are chewers and if the cage is plastic they probally will be out before long! rats get a bit bigger so a hamster cage may be too small...they would do better in a bigger cage or better yet a good size fish tank with a screen lid...that way you could put different toys and interesting things in there so the rat doesnt get bored... rats are very smart and need lots of stimulation...and ARE VERY SWEET!!!!
- Of course you can put a new pet hamster in the old hamster cage. A cage can be used over and over again (but a new one couldn't hurt!). I guess a rat could be put in a hamster's cage, but I would HIGHLY recommend that you don't do that... a hamster cage is much smaller -- it won't be big enough for a rat. Gerbils can live fine in hamster cages. My two gerbils are living in one right now :-)
- Yes you can keep a new hammy in your old hammies cage. Just remember to clean and disinfect well so that there aren't any left over germs or scents.
- Yes of course you can. Just sterilize it VERY well. And after sterilizing, rinse over and over again. You dont want there to be even a faint scent of sanitzer or soap in the cage. As long as the rodent is fit properly in it with lots of room, he'll be fine. Good luck
- A rat would probably have trouble being in a haster's cage. A gerbil would do fine, in your hamster's old cage. Sorry for your loss. Just clean out the cage really well, and put lots of bedding in for your new ham\gerbil. Have fun!
- You can use her old cage for a new hamster, rat, or gerbil, but make sure to rinse it out with warm water and fill it with fresh bedding. If the cage isn't very big, you may want to decide to get a larger one in a year or so if you get a rat, because they can grow to be as large as a small bunny. Also, if your cage has tubes for hamsters, make sure that they aren't small enough for a rat to get lodged in them, as they can sleep in a tube for days so you may not realize that it is stuck until it is too late.
- as long as you clean the cage really good, you can put gerbils in there, but rats, no. rats need much more space.
- clean it good.
- yes but you have to disinfect it first. use 1 part bleach with 10 parts water. scrub with hot water. then drie throughly. repeat process if desired.
- yes it can but for a rat i'd get a larger cage because they get pretty big sence you want to use the same cage for a gerbil or hamster id clean it out pretty good my hamster spike died on sunday the 13th of may and im getting one on the saturday of the 19th in may . i think it might be best if you get a larger cage for a rat.
- Yes you can just make sure you give it a massive clean and scrub.
- Yes, as long as you clean the cage well. That's especially important if she died of a disease, but even if she didn't you should still clean the cage well. I'd recommend that you first wash it with bleach, then rubbing alcohol (isopropynal or ethanol, but try to get one that's fairly concentrated), then water. If she died of old age and didn't have an infection, then you might want to skip the bleach, but I wouldn't recommend just bleach and water as it wouldn't be good for her if there's any bleach left over, whereas alcohol just evaporates off. A gerbil would be fine in a hamster cage, as would a rat if the cage is big enough, but rats are significantly bigger than hamsters, so many hamster cages would be too small. If it's the kind of cage that has those tubes off it then putting a rat in it would be kind of weird, and I worry that it could get stuck in them as well. I think I've heard that gerbils like that kind of cage, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I'd definitely go for a hamster over a rat, and I've never had a gerbil myself but from what I've heard hamsters are better pets than gerbils as well.
- disinfect it first.
- You can use her cage but clean it well. Gerbils and rats work too., Just clean it from bacteria and stuff like that.
- yes, but clean it well first with a mild disinfectant. rats are too big for hamster cages a gerbil can live in it, but remember, gerbils are avid chewers and will destroy any plastic they can get to... this includes the cage itself in some cases.
