how do you get hamster cage liners to stay in the cage?
I get these like cage liners for hamster cages and they're supposed to go on the bottom of the cage to like catch all the nasty stuff but my hamster just chew them up and uses them to sleep in.

- There's no way that they are going to stay in one piece. You're better just to shred up paper towels because those pads are expensive and totally not worth it.
- Mine do the same thing so I just use cedar shavings for the little darlings.
- I have never heard of using cage liners for rodents (only rabbits, puppies, and birds). It is their instinct to shred and nest. You didn't say whether you put bedding in his cage as well. You could try putting an inch of bedding over the liner (also provide a handful of toilet paper for nesting. Otherwise, I would veto to liner and just give him bedding and toilet paper. Hamsters will set up their houses strictly on their terms, ha.
- Since hamsters like to dig, I think the only way a hamster cage liner would stay in place was if the hamster wasn't in the cage. Hamster cages of an appropriate size don't get that dirty with regular cage cleanings. I'd scrap the liners. Cat - please reconsider using cedar bedding, its really harmful for small animals. Sadly, most pet stores don't tell you this and many people don't know until they've lost their pet from the ill effects of it. http://www.hamsterific.com/BeddingGuide.cfm
