Cage

What is the best cage size for two adult rats?

I am planning on getting two rats, and I cannot figure out which size cage is the best one. If you have a cage that fits two rats just fine, could you tell me the dimensions so I can buy a suitable habitat?

  1. 2 square feet per rat, so a 4 square foot cage. That would be the minimum. However, you should probably get a cage a couple feet bigger than the minimum. A 6 square foot cage should be good. ♥♥~~♥♥ Answering.
  2. An ideal size cage for 2 rats would be a minimum size for 4. That sounds bizarre, but try this calculator: http://www.rattycorner.com/odds/calc.shtml I would say 80cmX50cmX80cm or larger is the perfect size for rats. Seems massive but they are intelligent and active little critters. A minimum size would be 2 foot long, 15 inches wide and 2 foot high.
  3. I got my rat cage for my rats at martinscages.com pretty decent prices, too. Mine is one of the ones with 2 balconies and the larger base size. 2 rats are very happy in it
  4. For rats, bigger is always better. However, bigger may not be better for you! XD Martin's Cages R-695 or 690 is great. I use it for two females, it houses up to 4.
