Cage

is it it possible to buy those bird cage grates for the bottom of the cage?

My budgies cage hasn't got one. Ive not seen any in the local pet shop, and looked on Ebay but nothing on there either.

1. You cage should have come with one,and I would return it to exchange it if I were you.Beyond that ,if you can live with it,you could put down your paper in the bottom of it ,and merely change it daily like you normally would anyway.
2. If you know who it was made by ( company name ) and the type of the cage, alot of pet stores could order one for you. Unfortunately there are so many different sizes and types of cages, you may not be able to find one. If you really want one with a grate, you may have to buy a new cage.Good Luck!
3. the grates come with the cage. i don't think you can buy one for a cage, it won't have a slot on the bottom for the grate. You can always do the russian thing (using materials at hand to build something instead of going out to "get" what you need.) and just put a grate on the bottom of the cage on little stands. the grate can be from anything -- i'm thinking a fan since no one uses fans anymore if you have one lying around that's the right size you can cannibalize it. Then if the grate is flat you can make legs for it using plastic bottle caps. It won't be as convenient to remove and clean as one that slides out, but at least it will keep the bird from walking in his own poo. That's what a russian (or anyone who lived in a poor country) would do -- build their own. I"m not sure an american would have enough junk lying around the house in the first place or be able to put it together intelligently... but there you have it. If it was me, i'd' drill holes in the plastic bottle caps and use wire or leather to tie them to the grate, firmly enough that the bird won't be able to un-do them. i realize all i've done is made you wnat to do the american thing and throw away your cage and buy a new one. that works too. for now. until america joins the rest of the world...
