What are the best cleaning products for cleaning a bird cage?
I was just wondering because I'm getting a bird.

- just soap and water.. i use dawn dish soap, but make sure the cage is clean from any soap, and make sure its dry before you put your bird back in it..they get sick really easy..dont use any harsh chemicals, its really bad for them..
- there are special cleaners that you can buy at the pet store. don't use normal house cleaning products as they can be, and probably are poisonous to the bird.
- There are biodegradable, non-toxic, all purpose cleaners available out there. Any of these work well. Dish soap and water also work, just be sure the soap is entirely rinsed off. Diluted bleach solution is also an option, just be sure the birds aren't in the vicinity (cage or room) if you use this.
- I use dish soap and hot water - but I am careful to rinse all of the soap off before letting my tiel back in her cage. And dry it off too. I clean mine about once per week, but I change the liner every couple of days or so. Everytime I wash her cage - I put 'new' toys etc in ... so she doesn't get bored. Good Luck! And have fun!
- Do not use chemicals unless they are rendered safe for avian use. What's safe for a dog or cat may not be safe for a bird. I have had birds all my life and I use Dawn dish soap to clean and scrub. I do buy a poop remover spray, but I follow that with the dawn. It is very important to change the tray liner every day. Make sure you keep a grate between your bird and the liner. Do not use corn cob bedding, this can kill your bird if ingested. I use shredded paper called Eco-Nest. I find that putting the cage part in the shower with the water as hot as possible to be the best way to clean the cage itself. I wash the pan and grate in the sink. Rinse everything well. Also, buy an extra set of food cups so you can swap them each day. It's important to keep the food and water dishes sanitary.
- The simplest and cheapest way to clean your birds cage is good old soap and water, fgailing that there are many proprietory products out there, The Bird Care company make one as do many others
- I like using vinigar, water, 'poop-off' wipes, dawn soap, and GSE(natural disinfectant).
- just good old soap and water is best, you could sterilize it with clorox if you rinse it really well be sure to wash the food & water cups with hot soapy water every day
- The Cockatoo is right, soap and water is efficient and practical, but since my tiel is out of the cage 3 to 4 hours a day I found a product that helps out everywhere. My sister potty trained her tiel, but she got him young, mine won't give me the time of day, I am his pet.
- Vinegar and GSE (Grapefruit seed extract) seem to work well for me. Grapefruit seed extract can be purchased on line or at health stores and has both antibiotic and antifungal properties. It has shown to be 100 times more potent than bleach in disinfecting. Just a few drops added to the cleaning water go along way :)
- trust me try this and you will bless me. http://www.citrusmagic.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?item=613971XXX&type=store
