Cage

On pet vet does anyone know how to clean the bird cage?

I can't find anything around the birds or in a store to clean the bird cage

  1. How do I clean my bird's cage? Cold, soapy water, chlorine bleach, and a sponge work well for everyday cleanups. Bleach loses its disinfecting strength in hot water and when in contact with organic matter. Therefore, clean as much of the fecal material and food off of the cage, etc. as possible before wiping down with the bleach. For a more through cleaning (e.g. once a week) you may want to use some sort of disinfectant.Your avian veterinarian is a great source of information on types of disinfectants to use. They use them everyday in their practices so why shouldn't you? IMPORTANT NOTE: When using disinfectants make sure you know what it will and won't kill, and how long you must leave it in contact with the surface to do the job. This is very important. Finally rinse the cage, etc. well, and make sure that everything is dry before putting the bird back.
  3. I clean mine with hot, soapy water and bleach also. I have a scrub brush just for my bird cages too. I use hot bleach water for the water bottles and feeder cups.... I use newspaper for the bottom of the cages also. I change those about every other day.
  4. Canopy has a good cleaner out, and poop off has a good one too. Nothing works better then good old elbow grease. If you want a real good cleaning, a dishwasher will sterilize the cage well. All dishwashers get up to 160 degrees. I have never allowed it to go through the dryer cycle though. If you have a bigger cage, use the bath tub to clean it, and soak it in bleach water for 15 mins on each side, and rinse well. Remember any bare metal that rusts will and can cause lead poisoning. So make sure that you steel wool all rusted cages. Never ever purchase a cage from a yard sale. Often times diseases harbor in cracks and crevices. Good Luck!
  5. clean the cage using a mild soap and warm water, let it dry completely, there is a spray for cages to protect them from mites. Let it dry. re-line the cage and replace food, water, toys.etc.
  6. We share our home with 11 parrots, so we are always cleaning cages. The easiest way for us to clean the large cages is to roll them outside and hit them with the pressure cleaner. You don't really need extra cleaners that might harm the bird. Their perches and even most of their toys can be cleaned this way.
