Cage

how to decorative a old bird cage as home decor?

I bought a bird cage at a flea market and I am looking for ideas on how to decorate it... do not want to put live birds... just use it as an ascent piece in my house. any good web site? books? I bought the 2 fake birds to put in it but, that is it!

  1. I've seen people do the same with the bird cage. Using the two fake birds and having flowers stream down from the top where the handle is let them hang down the sides of the cage. It's very pretty.
  2. I did the same thing. I have 1 artificial bird on it's perch and I put artificial ivy at the bottom and intertwined it between the wires. I also added mini white lights and brought the cord behind. You can add florals to go with the different seasons or holidays.
  3. If you like house plants, put an ivy, or grape ivy in it so it'll grow and intertwine with the wires, it should take the shape of the cage, eventually, and put the birds on the outside of the cage. If you don't want a live plant, you can buy fake ivys at any hobby or department store.
  4. I've also seen them painted very nicely. First, scrub off the rust or old paint as best you can with a wire brush. Then go to the hardware store and get gold spray paint, or that paint that is made to look like aged patina (I don't remember what it's called). That will look very elegant with ivy in the cage.
  5. I have one that I intertwined the wires with Ivy and put candles in it. Needless to say I can't burn the candles, just for looks.
  6. You could try HGTV and search for "bird cage". There is a link below. There is a lot on there page. You can get ideas there. You should be able to find it. You can also go to the decorating tab at the top and click it. Then there is a huge list of possibilities. Good luck! Have fun!
