What gave Nicolas Cage OCD in the Movie Matchstick Men?
Its for my Psychological Disorders paper in Psych. All I need is what gave Cage this disorder.

- In my own experience OCD was triggered by guilt, I'm unsure of how it mannifests. In Matchstick Men they don't explain why or how Nick Cage got it. I think for the most part it is learned due to a mental illness of some kind.
- Like everyone who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder, he was born with it. I'm 14 and I have severe OCD. I was born with it and will die with it. So I'm not sure how exactly you could answer this, because nothing 'gave' him OCD except his genes. But you could say why people get OCD. The exact cause of OCD is unknown at the moment, but it is believed that problems in communication between the front part of the brain (the orbital cortex) and deeper structures (the basal ganglia) that use the chemical messenger serotonin are involved. People with OCD have either too much or too little of this chemical, serotonin. OCD runs in families. It is unknown how exactly it is passed on in a family, but scientists have come to believe that the tendency for someone to develop the serotonin imbalance that causes OCD can be inherited through a person's genes, but these genes have not yet been found. A recent discovery found that the neurotransmitter glutamate is also involved. Things that are NOT true about OCD: 1.OCD is NOT caused by a poor upbringing. 2.OCD does NOT mean you are a flawed person. 3.OCD does NOT mean you just have too much time on your hands. 4.OCD sufferers do NOT form specific obsessions. 5.People with OCD are NOT crazy. 6.OCD is NOT caused by trauma. 7.OCD is NOT caused by lack of willpower. 8.OCD is NOT caused by laziness.
