Can i use a large bird cage as housing for my Veiled Chamelon?

I was wondering if i could use a large square bird cage in replace of a regular chameleon screen cage. The extra large chameleon cages are so expensive and I don't see any problem with using a large bird cage instead. Is there any reason why i shouldn't use a bird cage for my chameleon?
