Cage

What is the smallest size cage for 1 guinea pig?

What is the smallest size cage for 1 guinea pig? Hi, My dad is planning on getting me a guinea pig next long weekend.. And he is asking what is the smallest cage size for us? I'm not a really good guinea pig expert here so i might need some advice here too. I live in an apartment and it's quite small.. too. Also, please send me pictures of cages.

  1. A guinea pig needs at least two square feet of room. If you don't want it to take up room, make a two-story cage that will take up vertical room, not horizontal. You can tuck a cage into a corner on the floor, or put it on top of a storage desk. As long as there is ventilation and the guinea pig can see out :)
  2. you should buy a c&c cage....it lists the sizes for one guinea pig .....it tells you how to build one or if you dint want to take the time in building one they sell them online...i'm getting a guinea pig and im buying a c&c cage. i hope this helps....below i have listed their website.
  3. Guinea pigs should be kept in pairs or groups(same sex or altered) in a cage with at least 7.5sq ft, to be happy and healthy. If you do not have room for a proper sized guinea pig cage, don't get guinea pigs, get a smaller animal. http://www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm Check out these awesome guinea pig websites, they have all the info you will ever need! http://www.guineapigcages.com/ http://www.guinealynx.info/sitemap.html http://www.cavyspirit.com/care.htm Edit: Tons of C&C cage photos! http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/index.php
  4. the idea that a cavy only needs 2 square feet of room is old and out dated. you need atleast 7.5 square feet for one guinea pig (all on one level) and an extra 4 square feet per additional pig. also guinea pigs should be housed in pairs. visit the links below for some helpfull information x
  5. Guinea pigs love a large area to live in. Even though you have a small apartment i suggest that you buy a cage that is large enough for the guinea pig to be happy in and that has enough room to run around. I built my cage myself. Check out this website it should answer some of your questions. http://www.guineapigcages.com/
  6. This is a great website I found for another guinea pig question and it is perfect for you too! It'll give you ideas and cage size and if you want to build one yourself (which is really quite easy for a piggie and maybe cheaper too), you can copy a lot of what they do: http://www.guineapigcages.com/ It says 7.5 square feet for 1 piggie but I'd get 2! Unless it will be out of the cage at least 70% of its time awake which is almost impossible and running around, I would not go smaller than 7 square feet of running space for 1 piggie and 8 for 2! I'd add at least 2 feet for each additional pig though-the bigger the better though which is true for any animal, especially rodents!!! I would also consider getting 2 if I were you-they do much, much better in groups or pairs cause they are very social animals and nervous! Many petstore cages for guinea pigs are not big enough which is why I'd consider building-chicken wire or wire cloth would work great or any ssort of metal with the right bar spacing. And remember, no cedar or cedar shavings EVER and only pine if it say kiln dried-aspen works if kiln-dried, which I think it always is, but make sure it says that. And extra vitamin c in their diet:) Hope I helped and good luck with your new buddy:) I loved my 2 piggies growing up!
  7. A 2ft by 3ft cage with a solid bottom. Or at least 7.5 square ft area of space. You could also make one out of C&C or cubes and coroplast, or corrugated plastic. The cubes, storage grids that snap together, form the perimeter of the cage. The coroplast lines the bottom. You can buy the stuff at any sign store or plastics wholesaler. When you put the bedding in use wood chips or something like that but never cedar because the fumes aren't good for guiena pigs' sensitive respiratory tracts. Good luck with you guinea pig! They are lots of fun! :)
  8. probably 2 ft long by 4 ft high by 2 ft wide
  9. you can't keep a guinea pig alone. it's animal cruelty and it will die, if you don't get him a companion. please, serioulsy, get two. they need a lot of space though. for you, i would reccomend mice, they need less space. here is a very useful site: http://www.guineapigcages.com/ PLEASE GET TWO, SERIOUSLY. make your guinea pig happy. and be a loveing owner.
