Is it ok to leave my dog in her cage for 3 days while I go for a business trip?
I just moved into my new flat, but I have to go up state for a 3 day busniess trip. I cannot afford to keep her in a boarding house so the only option is to keep her in her cage for 3 days straight. Now yes the cage is very small for the dog, (it will have only 7 inch's extra moving space, but I could leave a big pile of food in her cage and lots of water. What do you think?

- I think you're a moron, and shouldn't own a dog. That's considered animal cruelty, and should be reported. Get a dog sitter.
- Hell NO!
- I think it would be cruel and inhumane. You shouldn't have a dog at all if that's the best you can do for care. Try living in your closet for 3 days with no bathroom or room to move and then decide if it would be alright for your dog.
- Look Troll... you just posted this question about 4 days ago. Get some new material. Are you attempting to be the cure for insomnia? God knows your putting me to sleep. ~Tyed~
- NO!!!! Ask a neighbor, a co-worker, call a in house pet sitter, ask the landlord to check on her or better yet find a home that would never even think of doing something like that. What is wrong with you?
- NO! That is not ok! She needs to be able to move around. If you're going to do this, leave her in the bathroom at the very least. Can't you have a friend come over to check on her? She needs room to be able to move, and as she WILL be having accidents, it isn't fair to ask her to sit in it for 3 days just because you can't take responsibility for her. That would be pet abuse.
- You try it yourself first and see how it goes. If you wouldn't do it to yourself, don't do it to your dog.
- I don't at all think it is a good idea. She will need to use the bathroom and if you have no one taking her out or anything she is going to go in her cage. Would you want to be locked in a cage for 3 days?
- no! how sick is that?!?!? what if for some reason your dogs water spills?? do you realise dogs can die from dehydration. if you value your dog in any way, give him/her to someone in your family or a good friend to look after. DONT LEAVE HIM/HER IN A CAGE FOR 3 DAYS!
- Absolutely not! The dog needs food and water, yes, but they also need exercise and way to relieve themselves. The dog needs to be boarded or have a friend, relative, or neighbor come in to the house to exercise the dog.
- I would think anyone would know the answer to this is NO! Where would the poor thing have to go to the bathroom? Get a friend or relative to look after the dog. If you leave it in the crate after a while it's going to start to bark and whine. Neighbours will complain. Animal control will break in and bingo you are charged with animal abuse. The fine will be much more than 3 days bording. It may even land you in a cage of your own in prison!
- yeah a dog sittir but I say as long as has pleanty of food and water. they have a food container my cat a has one you can put like half a bag in the container thenwhen they eat more food comes out of the container and into the bowl buy one at http://www.ltdcommodities.com/
- OMG No!, how is she even supposed to go potty? You need to give your dog to someone who will take care of her.
- I can only hope that you aren't serious! Your dog can't stay in a cage for 3 days! 1st of all it's too small, 2nd it will have to go to the bathroom so it will end up sleeping in its own feces, which is not only cruel, but being forced to do so will probably mean that this dog will never be housetrained again. With the dog not being house trained you won't want it, you will end up surrendering it, then no one else will want it because it's not housetrained, then it could be killed at the shelter because the don't have endless funds or room. If you are seriously considering doing this, why don't you either just give your dog to a NO KILL shelter now, and prevent it from losing its housetraining or just give me your dog as you obviously aren't perpared for the responsibilities that come along with dog ownership!
- I think you know its not, or you would ahve already done it. She needs to be let out several times a day to go potty and exercise. You should have a friend come over about 3 times a day and let her walk and use the bathroom. That isn't the greatest option but acceptible if you can't have someone puppysit her. most dog borders keep them in kennels for the majority of the day.
- I think either you're a troll asking really stupid questions, or you should be put in the cage for 3 days and your dog sent on the business trip because obviously she's WAY smarter than you are. If you're seriously asking this question, go online and look for pet sitters. They're cheaper than kennels and will make sure your dog is ok. When you get back, if you really were serious, find a home for the dog, you don't deserve it
- This isn't a real question, right? No one could be that much of a cruel fool could they? If it is a real question, then take the dog to the nearest shelter so they can place her in a good home that won't neglect her - that will get rid of your problem as well as get her away from her's, you.
- While you were reading responses, your dog called, said he was going out for a few days, the nieghbor got a new poodle afterall, and he wants to know if it will be ok to lock you in a closet for 3 days if he leaves you food..... You are such a "dumb-ass". Your pets are an extension of your family and should be treated as such. Would you lock your child up alone for 3 days? Anythime you need to make a decision about your pet, swap out the word pet with the word "myself" maybe this will help you answer things.....
- No way. Get a new job if you can't even afford to pay for boarding.
- no no no no no, can i say that enough ? That borders on animal cruetly. This will be very negative for the dog, if you lock it up in a cage and leave for three days, that dog will never like the cage again, and will be fearful of it. 2nd of all, where is it going to go to the bathroom? If its already a small cage you cant leave it locked up in there and have it to sleep in her feces or possibly have it get mixed in with her food. She may bark and bark and someone could call the cops on it and the dog may be found locked up alone in a house in a cage and you could get fined for animal curelty. Please Please Please do not do this, its just wrong. Get a neighbor to come by and check on it, or have a family member look after it, there has to be another option. What if something happens with YOU on the trip and you get delayed or something and dont come home on time, not good. dont leave the dog in a cage.
- NO! You must let her free in your home not matter what damage may occur (if any)...it is the only humane way to deal with your 3 day business trip deliema...Or the other choice is to take her with you...if you can't do either one maybe you should rethink being a dog owner...it may not be for you.
- as everyone said, I don't think so. that is real mean to do to a dog or any animal. she would need to have room to run and use the bathroom. have a neighbor feed and give her fresh water and walk her. I am sure a neighbor would not mind doing that for you. please don't leave her in a cage.
- ARE YOU FREAKIN' INSANE?!?! How would YOU like to live in a closet for 3 days? Oh sure, you would have food and water but would you poop and pee in there?! I agree with others--if you can't do better than this for your dog, then you don't deserve one. If you absolutely can not get anyone to come pet sit or let your dog out, then perhaps you can block off your kitchen so your pet can stay in that area with food and water. Also, place newspaper on the floor for her to do her business on. If you can't block it off then just let her have run of the house knowing that she will have messed. And if you decide to go this route, don't be mad at her for doing her business in the house. I can just see you beating the poor animal because she pooped while you were away! And, leave a radio or TV on for her--geez! I can't believe you would even consider leaving her in her kennel for 3 straight days! And another thing; there are hotels that will allow pets.
- Absolutely not, why did you get a dog if you can not afford to properly care for the dog, do you have any common sense, were would the dog go to that bathroom, or what if it ran out of water and food. This is cruel and you need to find a neighbor or someone to look after the dog.
- I think you're a little TROLL, trying to get a rise out of everybody! Didn't work with me!!!
- you are crazy that would not help just bring her on the trip and take her to a care while your on your buisness trip. what do you mean you cant afford it my 10 yr old sister could what is wrong with you!!
- NO and it's defined as animal cruelty. Find a friend or neighbor that will look after your dog and pay them a little something or promise a return favor.
- No. Is there not a friend or family member or neighbor that could take care of your pet while you are away? And if you are going away on a business trip....is it work related? if it is I am sure that you have funds to keep your dog at a boarding house, because your trip should be paid for by your company. If your business trip is for pleasure.....shame on you. How would you like being confined in a cage for three days and nights to wallow in your own feces, with no fresh water. What you are suggesting is humane to your little dog. My opinion is please don't do it.
- If you don't know the answer to this question then you should not be a pet owner. If you can't afford to board your dog for only 3 days, what will you do if your dog gets sick and you cannot afford the vet bills? Vet bills are a lot higher than boarding costs. Perhaps you should think over whether you should even have a pet. Sad. I wouldn't even leave my GERBILS alone for 3 days, none the less a DOG. Even if your dog had full run of your house it would still be neglect.
- No, it is not OK to leave a dog in a cage for a 3 day trip. Allot of good Yahoo answers are given for you to follow. Please read carefully into them. Make the proper decision for your dog. This will make you feel allot better as you attend your business trip. Best Wishes!
- the dog needs exercise and needs to defecate away from his food source..ask a friend to keep it or leave it in your bathroom with paper on the floor. Better yet cardboard boxes taped to fit the floor is better..it won't stain your tile. Don't leave the heater on as dogs can tolerate very cold weather but not very hot weather. Leave water in a pot that cannot be turned over. you might also want to leave a radio on so the dog won't howl thinking he's alone.
- You must be kidding, right? Where would the dog go to the bathroom? If you do this, when you get back, expect the dog to not only be matted and covered in it's own poop and pee but it's attitude toward you could also be effected. Most animals would be mentally messed up to have to sleep and eat in their own waste for 3 days. I wouldn't love you if you did this to me. This is a 3 day trip. Give up your pet if you're not prepared to take care of it and are forced to travel for your job. Lock it in the bathroom if nothing else. Just know you'll have to bleach everything when you get back. It may scratch up the door and chew on things so you'll loose a security deposit but I fear if you left it in that horrible cage you could end up in jail if someone reported you...by the way... Where do you live???
- No, find someone to keep her or take her with you. Since you have a cage, that should not be a problem. She'll start barking, and the neighbors will probably call the police.
- NO. This is not ok. You cannot leave a dog alone for 3 days. If you "have to" do this, you should not have a dog. Part of the expense of having a dog is boarding it or paying for a dogsitter while you are away. If you can't afford that, give up your dog immediately and never get another one. If you're going on a business trip, presumably you have an income. My guess is you could afford to board her but are too cheap.
