- You walk a dog daily and only put them in the crate when not at home and the dog is unsupervised.
- You only walk your dog TWICE A WEEK? That's crazy. You need to walk your dog AT LEAST once (better if twice) a day.
- That's silly, no a crate will not stunt a dogs growth. BTW, you do not want your Labrador growing to fast, that leads to joint problems.
- If you are going to keep your dog in a cage daily then i strongly recommend you give your dog way to someone who will treat it better than this. a walk twice a week is nowhere near enough.
- Hopefully this is a wind-up q. Do NOT crate your dog 24/7. DO walk her more than twice a week fgs. 'Scream'.
- I also hope this is a wind up. If not then please rehome this dog while it is young enough to adapt to a proper life. If you are really keeping a dog in a crate everyday and walking only twice a week then you need reporting for cruelty.
- Ok you need to rehome this dog or step up and become a good owner. Dogs should only be crated over night and when you are,kt home. Any other time the should be out and free. Twice a week is not enough exercise for a lab. You should be taking him on 2 walks a day, not a week. Crating doesn't stunt growth, but will lead to other problems like immproper bone growth, joint issues, pressure sores, on overactive and self desrtuctive dog, etc. Crate training is a good tool when used properrly but when misused, it's neglect.
- Do you mean a dog pen or a metal crate? Metal crates are used for transport, not as living spaces. If the dog is smushed in that cage, it's no wonder that it isn't growing. If you live in an apartment, your dog should atleast be allowed to walk around the apartment. If you can't afford to let it do that, you should put it up for adoption, because you're just tormenting the dog otherwise. If however, you mean a dog pen and it's big enough (enough to put a properly sized dog house in it and still have the space for atleast 2 dog houses in it), I'd say the space is big enough, but you have to walk your dog or let it run around daily. If nothing else, just let it out of the pen and let it run around the house for 30 minutes per day, but also walk it a couple times a week. And if it's in a pen and eating properly, but isn't growing, it could be that it's just going to be a smaller dog, but there could be something wrong with it (It could simply be intestinal worm, but it could also be tapeworm). I would recommend taking the dog to a veterinarian.
- No it Will not
- If you puppy is growing to big get a bigger crate, being in a crate on it own would not stunt this growth. I do hope there dog can stand, turn around and Lay down comfortably in this crate. Your puppy does need daily exercise and keeping him in the crate all day unless you gone is cruel. You need to understand Dogs need and training and nutrition needs if you want to have a dog. Here is a sound of information I found useful. .
- Based on a similar question yesterday, there are going to be those that think its ok to leave a puppy in its crate for the majority of its life. Those that think owning a dog is more important then caring for a dog. I am not one of them. Call your reputable breeder you got the dog from and let them know you want to return the dog.
- A dog cage should not be locked. It should only be locked on occassion whilst your dog is a pup. Once house broken and trained your dog shouldn't really be locked in it's cage (especially not for longer than 3 hours at a time). A cage will not stunt your dogs growth as long as the cage isn't too small (even then I doubt this would stunt anything). Your dog should be able to stand up fully in his cage and turn around. If your cage isn't big enough, you are guilty of dog abuse. I am hoping you don't mean that your dog is in it's cage all day - this is abuse of dog cages (or crates as I call them). They are there as a home and bed for your dog, NOT a prison.
- That is a pretty ridiculous assumption, don't you think? A dog staying in a crate 24/7 would develop bone deformities... bowed legs, etc. If the dog could not physically grow anymore, it wouldn't fit into the crate. However, it would not stop the growth of bones.
- well only a Doctor will know but it sounds about right dogs may take more time to grow but it doesn't stop i have a dog he used to stay in the cage he stayed the same size for awhile but it didn't feel right to have him in a cage so i chopped it in half (the cage not the dog) and made it a rest and sleeping area and he grew a lot faster know he can jump on the couch with know problem
- First you should have done your research before getting a pet period. A lab needs room and plenty of exercises everyday. They are very active dogs. Second Putting them in a crate will not stunt their growth however, keeping her in cage that is too small for her is not good. She should be able stand and turn around and lay down in the cage.
