Cage

What's the best way to clean a Metal Dog cage?

Hello :3 I just brought up a metal dog cage with a removable base up from my basement. I realized it needs cleaning. What is the best way to clean the rust etc off of it?? both base and the cage part. its not THAT rusty. just like one or two small patches. I just want it to be safe for my Bernese Mountain dog. Note: i need to know what i can do to clean WITHOUT some sort of cleaner...maybe things i can find around the house?

  1. I would use WD-40 and handy wipes=)
  2. Extensive rust - pitch it and get a new one. It's not worth the risk of your dog tetanus. Just a bit of rust - rustoleum, wire brushes and a lot of elbow grease.
  3. If is that rusty, throw it out and buy a new one.   Walmart sells them cheaply, so do lots of other stores.Rust tends to continue to rust, and that can harm your dog. Any chemicals or oils lubricants you use to stop the rust (or spray pain like Rustoleum) can also harm your dog if he chews it - don't take the chance for a few bucks.
  4. ok,get 2 sponges a bucket of soap and water all you do is run the sponge over the dog cage get those hose hose it down in your yard or something.
  5. If it is rusty, throw it out and buy a new one. You can clean the rust, but there will be little jagged and sharp parts where the rust used to be that can cut the dog. Not worth the risk.
