- you can get a nice crittertrail cage, even the big cages for $40.00 and under at petco or petsmart!! =)
- the biggest cage for the cheapest cost is what you need; here's a creative idea: how about a bin cage? http://www.geocities.com/calhamassoc/FeatureBin.html http://critterscoop.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=100&Itemid=38 http://www.petwebsite.com/article_read.asp?parent_id=14&parent_name=Hamsters&id=256&title=Make%20A%20Homemade%20Hamster%20Bin%20Type%20Cage my hamsters both have bin cages and I love it: lightweight, easy to clean, durable, very cheap (I paid about $13 for materials for one cage), and as big as you want!! bin cages are great!! hope this helps the minimum size that a syrian hamster's cage needs to be in order to be humane is 12" by 18" and 12" high you'll notice almost every hamster cage they sell in the US is too small to be humane in fact the most expensive hamster cages, such as crittertrail, tend to be the worst for your hamster's health remember that they run 8 miles a night in the wild so you need as much room as you can to give them lots of running space and toys
- I got a really good one, plastic, big, and bold colors at petco. It was $35 plus tax. Good luck with your hamster, I love hamsters. Mine died already :(
- CritterTrails are the ones with about 1 million different attachmetns, jk. you can buy a medium sized one for about 25-40 bucks depednding on where you get it from, the number of attachments etc., and the different sizes. with the crittertrails you have to be sure the hair cant get caught. also a good idea are the bin cages the other person has links so ill just let you visit theirs. aquariums are always safe. they can be hard to clean though. if you get an aquarium get a good sized one and its a good idea to get a top to prevent escapes and anything fall in on your hammy. if you just can tfind the right cage here than you can google it for ideas.
- wal-mart has really good, interesting cages for really cheap. and later on they sell like attachments that you can add on to it to make it more interesting for the hamster
- larsa is headed for bur omisace
- Go to ebay and look up metal hamster cages the first few items you will see will look like two cages put together by tubes and buy that!! I have those and they're AMAZING...they are only 15 dollars plus shipping is like 15 or 20. so you'll get them for around your price.
- I have a long haired hamster too, i just got a habit-trail playground cage. its great cause theres a part at the top where they can sleep and the bottom for all their food wheel and stuff like that. you might have to buy a separate wheel tough because the one that comes with it, s not really a wheel. Anyway it comes with a food wish, a spinner wheel(the wheel) and a water bottle...all for 30$. I got mine at Superpet.
- there are four main types of cages: ~aquarium- the best for beginners, it is easy to clean, easy to see through the cage, and you can add a tank topper later on if the 10 gal tank becomes too small, the only downside is that air movement through the cage is limited, a 10 gal tank with a tank topper looks like: http://www.petdiscounters.com/mc_images/product/image/d_4297.jpg ~bin cage i don't recommend this for newbies, its a do-it-yourself cage made from a plstic bin, it is really durable and light weight and i think is the best cage to have, but u need to make it, and there are no guarentees the hamster won't escape, you should have previously owned a hamster before attempting to make this, heres an example of a bin cage: http://critterscoop.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=97&Itemid=41 ~plastic these cages are by far the most expensive, hard to put together, and cheap quality cages, they are good once they are all put together, but its terrible to clean, and once the hamster gets old, it is hard for it to climb up and down the tubes in the cage, i sometimes like these cages, but i don't think its really good for newbies, an example: http://www.petco.com/product/100111/SAM-Here-and-There-2-Home-and-Traveler.aspx ~wire these cages are also really good for beginners, it has great ventaltion because its made of wires, most come with an easy to remove bottom to dump out the bedding easier, and makes a healthy hamster because of the things to do in the cage! i love these, but the only downside is that your hamster is guarenteed to chew on the wires, which will be very noisy, an example: http://www.petco.com/product/8295/Coast-Cages-Del-Mar-Hamster-or-Rat-Cages.aspx
