  1. If the bird didn't die of a disease, just wash everything off with plain soap and water. Just scrub everything well. I clean my birds' toys and perches all the time in Dawn dishwashing liquid and water in the sink. For the stuff that won't fit into the sink, I use PoopOff spray, which is bird-safe for ANYTHING. When I'm out of PoopOff, I use Clorox CleanUp, which contains bleach, but I rinse everything very well afterward.
  2. Clean it and rinse it VERY well, several times and you should be good to go! Congrats on the new "baby'!!! kjl
  3. Um bleach is ok as long as you rinse it REALLY good and let it dry in the sun. I would throw away the cuddle bone and get new cuddle bone. The toys should be ok if you clean them, but I would throw out any that has rope attached to it, or anything edible
  4. I would stay away from bleach, since it is very toxic. A safe alternative would be white vinegar. While it smells awful for a lot of people, it has great anti-bacterial and viral properties. And, most importantly any residue that could accidentally left won't harm your bird. I would go and buy a new cuddlebone, if your perches and toys are in good shape then I would say they are fine. (If there is any doubt that there could have been sickness involved I would toss anything porous.)
  5. You can keep basically everything- As long as it's all in good condition. (Frayed rope, chewed rawhide/wood, etc. are examples of things that I would throw. But if there are perches & toys that are not 'broken in,' I would certainly keep them!! Anything that can be cleaned and/or disinfected, though, I would also do that) Bleach CAN be used around a birds' home, depsite what common sense might tell us about parrots & their problems with common household products/toxins. I use 5% chlorine bleach in a solution with HOT water in a spray bottle for the cage wires & tray. To thouroughly disinfect the cage and non-pourus toys, you first need to clean them in a detergent like Simple Green to get all the organic (fecal/food) matter off it because organic matter immunitizes bleach and makes it's disinfecting properties useless. So clean off everything you plan to disinfect, first with detergent!! Then wipe dry and spray on the chlorine bleach/hot water solution and let it evaporate naturally because this helps the bleach do it's magic. You can soak wooden perches in the bleach/hot water, but make sure they're totally dry before placing back into the cage.
  6. YEP U GO GIRL! toss the cuttle bone and any thin you cant wash! ALso PLZ DONT USE BLEACH! use dawn soap in a warm sink filled with water and scrub off all poo RINSE WEEEELLLLLLLLL! ALSO DONT GIVE HER COLD DAMP PERCHES OR ANYTHING TO SIT ON! it could CAUSE HER TO GET ARTHRITIS IN HER FEET! IF U LET HER OUT OF HER CAGE BE SURE TO CLOSE OFF ALL DOORS leading out of the room! be SURE TO TURN OFF all fans! and TAKE DOWN OR COVER ANY HANGING MIRRORS! sometimes they will fly into mirrors if they think they can and break their neck! ALSO KEEP HER out of areas in your home that have been sprayed with bug spray! BE SURE TO FEED HER THE LIQUID FOOD AND TO SEE A VET TO INSURE U ARE FEEDING HER PROPER FOOD! ALSO!! WHEN SHE gets old enough to eat solids feed her cockatiel pellets AND A LIIITTTLLLEE SEED( they can easily become too attatched to any one food and not want to eat their fruits or veggies which is bad NO JUNK FOOD!!! ) ANd GO TO GOOGLE.COM and ask WHAT FOOD SHOULD I AND SHOULDNT I FEED MY COCKATIEL! AND THEN LOOK AT RESULTS AND FEED HER THESE THINGS! ALSO be sure not to feed her too many fruits or veggies it could cause too much urine in her droppings! ALSO THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! DO NOT FEED YOUR BIRD GRAVEL OR GRIT OR SAND! IT WILL CLOG ITS VITAL ORGANS!!! IT DOESNT NEED IT TO DIGEST FOOD! GRIT OR GRAVEL CAN CLOG VITAL ORGANS !!! U WOULDNT FEED A DOG GOLFBALLS SO Y FEED A BIRD GRAVEL? UNLIIKE TURKYS BIRDS DONT NEED GRVEL TO DIGEST FOOD THEY HAVE STOMACH ACID! BUT THE ACID ISNT STRONG ENOUGH TO DIGEST ROCK! PLZ DONT FEED THEM THIS! AND DONT PUNISH YOUR PET BY HITTING OR YELLING IT WILL HURT OR SCARE THEM PUNISH GENTLY BY TAKING AWAY FAVORITE TOY DONT TAKE AWAY FOOD OR WATER EITHER! I WILL NOT STOP POSTING THIS UNTIL I KNOW EVERY BIRD IS SAFE!
