Cage

How can I get a good ferret cage for a cheap price?

I am planning on adopting a ferret, but I will need a home. I want a cage for one ferret, but multi-levels and enough room to roam and play. I heard shelters give away cages for good prices. I live in northern New Jersey.

  1. You could also try thrift stores and yard sales.
  2. I would suggest looking into a shelter. They usually have them for cheap and you always feel better knowing that the money you spent is going back to the ferrets. I would also suggest getting more than one ferret. they like to have buddies around, and they like to be entertained by other ferrets and yourself. They don't really play in there cage. just sleep. they will usually only play outside of the cage. All you would need is one that has enough room so you can hang something for them to sleep in and room for a litter box and food and water.Don't go to big and spend a lot of money. Hope this helps.
  3. If you know of a shelter that will sell you a cage, do that. If not, try the Ferret Nation 141. You won't regret that purchase. Plus, if you wish to expand, you can add on levels. However, ferrets do not "just" use their cage for sleeping. They are on-and-off sleepers. They typically sleep for about three or four hours before waking up. They tend to wake up, sleep some more, wake up, sleep, etc. Usually they'll sleep for about 12 - 18 hours total per day. They need out of cage time for about 4 - 6 hours, and do best in pairs. So unless you're getting another ferret (which I would suggest, or it may become depressed if you don't play with it enough), I'd suggest a bigger cage so your fuzzy can entertain itself between catnaps. Just as a heads up, ferrets are quite costly, especially when they get into older age. If you think you'll have trouble paying just a couple hundred bucks for a cage, you'll probably not be able to afford veterinary care, which often reaches into the thousands per year.
  4. try the shelter first then i would check on craigslist.org for your area and if you stil cant find something you like try ebay or even ferretdepot.com or ferret.com. hope this helps.
