Can you keep a Coturnix Quail in a regular bird cage?

Well I'm going to buy a quail and I don't want to buy one of those big bird cages so can I keep a Quail in a regular bird cage?

1. It's ok if it has a 2 foot by 2 foot floor as they need this minimum space,
2. Keeping them in a regular cage unless it is tall is a bad idea. They go straight up is startled and if they hit the top of the cage can be injured or even killed. If you don't want to invest in a large cage then a large aquarium (30 gal or 50 gal both of which are 12"x48" or larger are a good choice for 1 or 2 birds) with cloth or plastic mesh used at the top is a good choice to prevent injury
