How do you move old parakeets from and old cage into new cage?

I got a new bigger cage for my 2 parakeets and they stayed in their old cage for months. If i just put them inside the new cage without some special steps will that traumatize them? What should I do?

1. put them in the big cage for short periods of time daily for a few days then move them completely to the new one
2. Don't just put them in the new cage, they have to want to go in. Open the cage doors on both. Put the cages together so the old cage door will go into the new cage door. They should now go into the new one on there own, it might take a few minutes or a few hours.
3. Put them in the new cage and leave it empty without toys for 24 hours for them to adjust to their new environment
4. No it will not Just set up the cage and reach in with a towel over your hand and pick him up and place him in the cage They will be fine you do want to hang millet in the cage to help make sure they locate food etc i hang mine near food and water
