What type of cage should I put my 1 year old rabbit in?
Right now, she's in a dog cage thing! It's not big or good but it's all we have. I'm wondering what type of cage would be good. (pictures greatly appreciated!) SHE'S IN A DOG CAGE NOW!

- a dog cage.
- Well A play pen is really cool. I don't have pictures of mine SORRY! It is a pen not a cage. It is fencing like what you would make for a big dog pen. I have it under my deck, but it houses 4 rabbits not 1. You could buy some fencing and make one. Its bigger than cages that you buy. Fencing isn't that expensive either I don't believe. Also, it lets them dig. They have made HUGE holes. Hope I helped! Edit: If you have a Tractor Supply (TSC) they have fencing and probably all you need. They also have 50 lbs. of rabbit food for around $12.
- Something like this http://www.petsathome.com/find/keyword-is-Rabbit+cage/product-is-16909 Do you live in the UK? If not, instead of going to Pets at Home, visit Petsmart or something like that. How big is your rabbit? If she is quite a big breed she will need something bigger, which can be quite expensive!
- It depends on whether you intend to keep her inside or outside long term. If you keep the rabbit outside, I would definitely recommend some kind of run or pen also and make sure the hutch has feet and is off the ground. For outside I would recommend something like: http://www.bitsforpets.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_2&products_id=3306&osCsid=a0248286c9b4f7f98b356ab2c95df298 For indoors I definitely recommend this one which we have: http://www.bitsforpets.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_137&products_id=571 If you have an indoor cage, you should allow the rabbit out to run around often. We bought and indoor cage and outside hutch at a local farm/pet shop for cheaper than these online. You have to look around and find what you can get in your price range. Don't be inclined to buy something just because it looks nice. Consider the following: a) how secure is it, rabbits often chew and try to escape so make sure it has proper latches b) how easy is it to clean. Make sure you can lift off or raise the roof to get in to clean. Some have a floor that slides out too which seems easier - I don't know from experience because mine doesn't have that! c) is it the right size for your rabbit. The RSPCA and RWA (UK) recommend a minimum hutch size of 5' x 2' x 2'. Good luck!
- So what's the problem??? Is the dog cage too small??? If you keep it clean it doesn't matter what she is in as long as it's big enough for her to stretch and be comfortable in. Some people even make cages out of cubes, kind of like the ones you make for guinea pigs. Here's a picture, it's made with grids although it can be messy if you don't litter train her, and it takes a lot of space but since you only have one that won't be a problem (plus it is cheap to make): http://www.michiganrabbitrescue.org/condo.htm http://www.paw-talk.net/forums/f27/build-your-own-cage-cage-idea-22600.html Be creative. Even a play pen could do the job. You can build or buy a hutch. http://www.elbecgardenbuildings.co.uk/shopimages/products/normal/bridge_rabbithutchgreen%20-%20smlmedlarge.jpg Or make your own cage, or even have her loose in your room if you have managed to 100% or as best as you could, litter train her.
- This is what I use most of the time http://www.kennelvet.com/midwest-gold-dog-pen-with-door-36h-p-721.html If I am not using that I use a 'NIC' cage made out of Whitmor Wire Storage Cubes from walmart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5005199
