Cage

What is the minimum size bird cage for a cockatiel?

I have a 22"L x 14"D x 18"H cage and I would like to know if that would be big enough for one cockatiel bird. Please post your suggestions and, or the minimun & average size of a cockatiel bird cage. Thanks :]]

  1. the minimum size is 2cm by 1cm. i like my birds small.
  2. it would be big enough, but cockatiels live longer if they have a friend it helps them live longer so i suggest you get a bigger cage for two of them
  3. I agree with banna.
  4. Lets just say -90% of the time when you go to a petstore and see cages that say they're perfect for cockatiels, they usually are perfect ..for parakeets or smaller. Double the size of what they consider 'perfect' for cockatiels and that should be fine. My cockatiel is in a converted rabbit cage. There's enough room in it for about 10 cockatiels to stand side by side with their wings spread. Technically though, the only time he's in there is when hes' sleeping. I've safety proofed the room his cage is in and therefore his cage door is open all the time, except at night. He's got free run of the place, because I think it's mean to coop birds up all the time.
  5. that is way to small. Try at LEAST a 24x18x18 cage. Plus only get one cockatiel. Two will mean they want nothing to do with you because they have another bird. They will not want to come out and they will hate/be afraid of you. Get one. Females are cuddlier. Males whistle but can be standoffish. I highly recommend going to Bird Paradise to get your bird, cage, toys, food, and everything else. They are wonderful! They are in Burlington, New Jersey and voted the #1 bird store in the USA. They are amazing. Here's the website. www.birdparadise.biz
