how could I cage my dog without it been so traumatic?
Each time I have to put my poor baby in her cage she tries to bite me and keeps barking all day long. I need to cage her soon because they are going to make some renovations in my house and I don't want to take her to day care. Help please!

- well, for one, try to make it easier to get her into the cage. you should take a piece of food and throw it into the back of the cage so she follows it and goes in without the biting. make sure that there are toys in there so that she does not get lonely. the cage should be big enough for her to play in. small cages are typically for sleeping in.....maybe a"play pen" would be a better idea as it keeps her in but has room for her. just make it comfortable, and make sure you show her a lot of love when she is out of the cage.
- It takes a lot of time and training for the dog to get used to be in a crate. You have to make it a possitive experience for her. Here read some of these links, they have all the information you need on how to crate train your dog. http://www.siriusweb.com/AAD/crate.html http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/crate-train.pdf http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pets_for_life_program/dog_behavior_tip_sheets/crate_training.html and it's called a crate not a cage :)
- Spend a day having her go in the kennel for treats, make it a game. throw a treat in and say KENNEL, if she goes in after it, praise her, if she doesn't, pick up the treat, show it to her, toss it back in, continue until she goes in. Then start telling her kennel first, if she goes in, give her the treat, if she doesn't, toss the treat in. Once she is going into the kennel when you tell her to, shut the door for a couple seconds, open it, give her a treat, praise her, start over. Remember to be patient, this may take her a while, right now she thinks of the kennel a s a bad thing. It also helps if you feed her in the kennel. Put the bowl in, leave the door open, and walk away.
- pull out the cage, and say good boy and reward him. then he sees the cage as a good thing
- Give it a bone.
- First of all you need to make sure that her cage is big enough. She should be able to stand up, turn around and lay down comfortably. Most dogs think of thier cage as thier " den " since they were once wild. Try to make it more like a den. Add a blanket or bed. Put some of her toys in there with her. If yo want to you could even put her food and water bowl in there too. Do whatever you can to make her feel at home. Also you should never leave your dog in her cage for more than about 7 hours strait. Also be sure you take her out to potty soon because dogs will not use it in thier crate unless thier crate is too big so she will be holding it. Hope this helps!!!!
