Cage

What is the best cage for my growing hamster?

My hamster is growing and I think I need a bigger cage. I need something with a wheel, lots of tubes and something that she can have fun in. Kayla is a long haired hamster that is about 3 months old.

  1. well, crittertrails /habitrails all come with wheels and are set up so you can add on to them (more cages, or tubes, tunnels, etc) but, but those are kind of a pain in the butt to clean. Theyre half plastic and half metal though, so theyre well ventilated, so if you have patience to take it all apart and clean it every week then it'd make an okay home. You can literally go nuts and make it a hamster paradise with all the accessories they sell. There are several different models but they can all be connected together with the tubes they sell in most pet stores. http://www.hamsterland.com/default.asp?cat=cag&con=0
  2. there are many cages you can get. you said your hamster was a long hair so i would avoid cages with tubes, otherwise they can get stuck and die. here are some cages i would consider. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441781545&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1188273556074&itemNo=4&In=Small+Pet&N=2047888+4294965743&Ne=2 http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441777162&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1188273556099&itemNo=6&In=Small+Pet&N=2047888+4294965743&Ne=2 http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441817008&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1188273556126&itemNo=9&In=Small+Pet&N=2047888+4294965743&Ne=2 http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441816749&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1188273556140&itemNo=10&In=Small+Pet&N=2047888+4294965743&Ne=2 the bottom one tends to be small. my favorite one is the second one. those are ones from petsmart. ive looked at ones from petco and personally do not think any would be good. remember, wire on the feet is hard on their feet and their feet can get stuck and die.
  3. you should get a tank and get this that goes on top http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441817222&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1188273881753&itemNo=60&Nao=48&In=Small+Pet&N=2047888&Ne=2
  4. I would recommend a Critter-Trail 2 with a bunch of tube add-on's
  5. Lots of cages (with a wheel) are waaay too small for hamsters, but Ware cage is good. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441777162&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1188273556099&itemNo=6&In=Small+Pet&N=2047888+4294965743&Ne=2 Or this one; but I'm not sure about bar spacing. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441781585&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1188281649564&itemNo=23&In=Small+Pet&N=2047888&Ne=2 You can but then a wheel (Comfort Wheel, Wodent Wheel,...) add some toys, cardboard levels etc. Anyway, a at least 20 gallon bin/glass tank will work too. Look here how to make a bin cage: http://www.petwebsite.com/article_read.asp?parent_id=14&parent_name=Hamsters&id=256&title=Make%20A%20Homemade%20Hamster%20Bin%20Type%20Cage
  6. crittertrails are always have alot of tubes.
