Cage

how do i get my dog to go in the cage?

My dog never likes going in the cage. I literally have to force her in the cage by pulling her by her collar. How do i get her to go in the cage without pulling her by her collar?

  1. put a treat/favorite toy in the cage and hopefully that will get your dog in there
  2. put a toy in there. also crate training takes time. Throw a treat in there. Place her food bowl in there when u feed her.
  3. why are u puttin a dog in a cage thats crul!
  4. I'd say put treats in there.
  5. My dog was like that for a while. I trained her to go in there on command by using treats. Always praise her when she goes in there and give her lots of treats. To train her to go in on command toss a treat in there and say "crate" or what ever word you want. Praise her when she goes in there. Once she goes in easily just say crate and pretend like you are putting a treat in there. When she goes in give her a treat. Eventually she will go in there when you just say the word. You should also feed her in there, but leave the door open. Give her a Kong full of peanut butter when she is in there with the door closed. Good luck! http://www.inch.com/~dogs/cratetraining.html
  6. I don't know how old your dog is, but the following worked for both my dogs when they were puppies. I would always feed them by putting their food all they way back in the cage and have them eat in there with the door open. Also, I would put them in there with the door open and play with them with their favorite toys. When my youngest dog came to live with us, I would also let him fall asleep anywhere but then put him in the cage so he always woke up in there. As a puppy, he slept hard enough to move him without waking him up. Wouldn't work now that he's older. Good luck
  7. Put a treat or some food into the cage and make the dog get in. Do not make a big deal out of it just do it and walk away. The more often you crate the dog the easier it will get. When I put mine i a crate I tell the to kennel up and they all get in their crates and wait for the treats. Like it is no big deal to them. Mine sleep in their crates with the doors open. I find them sleeping in their crates all the time they have learned to like them.
  8. By pulling her into the cage you may be making her think she's done something wrong or she is being punished. Follow the advise of the others here--make it a game that's enjoyable for her--using treats or toys. Don't push or pull her into it, give her time to get used to it and find out that it's not something she's got to fear.
  9. Treats work very well.
  10. Don't use the cage for punishment. Put her toys in there, or treats.
