Dog cage.......?

Where can I buy a dog cage for a large dog? The cage needs to be about 42-48" tall. I have looked at Petsmart and the cheapest one this size is $100. Is there anywhere I can look that might be cheaper? Or any suggestions on how to make one myself? I'm not looking for anything fancy, I just need something to keep my dog from chewing up my stuff while I'm at work.

  1. $100 is not a bad price for a large cage. You can try smaller pet stores in the area as Petsmart does have a tendency to be a bit overpriced. A cage, however, is a very valuable tool. Just make sure you train your dog for the cage so he doesn't freak out in it.
  2. Try a farm animal supply store where you can buy feed. They often sell kittens and chickens and things as well. Usually they carry dog and cat food, but more importantly they will have cages that are less fancy that may not be for a dog specifically but can contain one. It will most likely be wire and not very attractive. If it is wire make sure you put something soft for your dog to lay and stand on and be sure its something that will stay in place. It would suck for him to push the blanket to the side and then have to lay on wire all day until you return. He can't exactly straighten a run with no thumbs!
  3. what jessica has told you is a very good point however if you go to your local grocery store and pick up a trading post magazine you might be able to find them for as cheap as 20 dollars and when you find a cage you call the person and you have to pick it up from their house.....most people put their cages for sale because they no rather have their dog anymore.........if this does not work out you might consider putting him in the bathroom and closing the door
  4. Try Petco too if there is one in your area. I got mine from a pet shop for fairly cheap, but $100 isn't that bad. Animal gear isn't cheap!
  5. My animal shelter is always receiving donated cages. Go to your local shelter and ask if they have any extras and offer them a small donation to buy a cage off of them. Odds are, they need the little bit of cash more than they need another cage. Clean your used cage with a diluted bleach/water solution and let it stand in the sun for a few hours to dry/disinfect properly. Good Luck!
  6. well $100 is to much for a cage. Just do to walmart. theirs are cheaper! that's were i got my puppy cage from
