Whats the difference between kickboxing, cage fighting or mma? I used to do kickboxing a few years ago nd was quite good at it so now i want to start again but i've been looking at cage fighting and mma as well. If you have any experience in them, which would you say is the best and why? They all give basically the same information (self defense and fitness). Thanks
Is MMA and cage fighting respected by Martial Artists? I'm not a MMA hater, but I was talking to one of my friends about the respect a mixed martial artist (notably the ones that fight in cages like in UFC and in rings like PRIDE FC), and I was wondering do any of them get respect from Grandmaster martial artists and expert Martial Arts practitioners? Is it a revered style or is it denounced and considered a "disgrace" to Martial Arts? Please, I want serious answers. I don't mean to sound offensive if it seems that way.
training for MMA/cage fighting? I am training for MMA or Cage Fighting. Any ideas on what i should do and how to bulk up? I am a weak 155 right now and i want to get to 145 or drop even more fat/water weight so i can pack on muscle. I want any training ideas you have and/or any weight loss ideas. Are there cage fighting or MMA tournaments in China/Japan? Just want to know if they fight as rough as we do over in China or Japan or do they focus on kung fu and spiritual thinking etc and never use their martial arts for tournaments etc? Thanks rough - you know what i mean by cage fighting. Do they fight like that over there?

Starting MMA/CAGE FIGHTING! Have some questions? I'm 17, and starting MMA. I'm going on Saturday and it's coasting me 6 pounds for an hour (Does that sound ok?) I know it's mixed martial arts, do they let you pick what you want to do or is there certain ones you can do?? Any other information will be useful?? Thanks in advance
I would like to get into MMA and cage fighting. Maybe even have some amateur fights? How do I do that? I'm 19 years of age and a college student. This summer, I joined my first MMA gym ever and man I really fell in love with this sport. I actually wanted to become an amateur fighter but I ended up fracturing four ribs ( since the instructor did not even realize that I grappled/rolled with guys heavier than me). After two and a half months of rest, I am finally healed and want to continue MMA. As well as get into cage fighting. What fighting styles do you all recommend I try if I wish to accomplish this? :) Any answers would be wonderful!!!

MMA, Boxing, Cage fighting? If you were any of these type of fighters, what song would you choose as your entry song, you know, the song that plays when you walk to the ring. I would choose "Mudvayne - Not Falling"

How would you feel if your husband wanted to do cage fighting? My husband wrestled in high school and did VERY well. He also is in the military and won fixed combat fighting, and has entered and advanced in local fight clubs. Anyway, he wants to enter MMA (mixed martial arts) cage fighting in our city when he gets back from his deployment. While I'm proud of his achievements and that he has a hobby he loves so much I really don't want him to do this. Is it wrong for me to tell him not to do it or should I let him have his fun?

How old must you be to amateur cage fight/have an MMA match? I'm 16 and have been wrestling for 5 years and training in MMA for about 7 months. I'm going to continue training for another year and then I want to enter my first match. My friend who is 15 wants to train for 6 more months and then fight (he'll still be 15). How old do you have to be? This would be in Michigan. Thanks.

Trying to build a mma cage? This is a follow-up to another question i asked. I am trying to build a circular or hexagonal cage for fighting. And yes I do train on mats and train my students on mats, but the promotions we work with are ones where we fight in cages. So I am looking to build on to allow my students to get the feel for it and on how to work the cage. I am looking for plans, specs or any information that would be helpful. Thank you to all that answer.

Do you think parents that take their kids to cage fights, mma, and ufc should get their kids taken away ? I think they should get their kids taken away permanently those aren't very good parents if you ask me. If I had kids I would not desensitize them like that and turn them into a mindless bunch of redneck idiots. I hate all that crap and I wish it was banned in USA like it was. Plus I am the type that has to step in and say that's too far. I think you are all bad parents for teaching your kids stuff like that. Ignorant morons. I wouldn't let my children hang around such imbeciles.
How do you get into organized cage fighting? I live in seattle and being 20 years old while training MMA for a number of years, has me intrigued in the idea of organized cagefighting (specifically the UFC). I have a wide rang of background in mma from Muay Thai and CSW (combative submissive wrestling) to JKD and Panantukan/Kali. I have no background in fights at all...im fresh out of the box. HELP ME PLEASEE!! Thanks.
what is the min. age for fighting female mma? i am a 13 year old female and i am training for fighting female mma i want to kno wat the min age is bc my dad use to box and wrestle and my big bro fights cage. box, wrestles, and i just wanna follow them
Where can I sign somebody up for a cage/MMA match in the SF Bay Area? I wanted to sign my brother up for a cage/mma match in the San Francisco bay area. He doesn't have a record yet but he is ready to fight, prefereably however, I'd rather he fight an inexperienced person, even if that meant that it wouldn't be an official MMA recorded match. I'd like to do this as his Christmas present, so please help!
i train in mma and fight backyard,,, but looking for a cage fight in california, please please help? i live in nor-cal,,, but willing to drive anywhere on west coast,, lemme know,, please and thanks
Why Does My Girl Friend Laugh At My Cage Fighting Aspirations? I'm in training to be a cage fighter, but she says I'm too old (35) and too fat (5'10" 205 lbs). I come home with bruises and sprains from my MMA classes -- my co-workers think that I'm a wife beater or bar brawler. My girlfriend smokes cigarettes and cooks fatty foods -- which make me fat, and the cigarette smoke grosses me out the more I'm around it. This is really hurting my MMA aspirations. What should I do?
MMA Fighting? MMA fans read this!? Is'nt that sport a little to violent. I mean with all the knees, elbows, kicks, punches etc.. IS THIS A STREET FIGHT SPORT OR WHAT!! Before you say stuff about boxing look at mma. MMA not only uses hands, but also kness etc.. I give this sport 5 more years and its done! MMA looks to da*n painfull. Guys fighting in a cage and stuff. What happen to this world.
What is step one for fighting in a cage match? Right now taking Muay Thai and BJJ (I just recently started though) I'm taking them at a gym that focuses on MMA and has some of the best instructors in the southeast. It's a really good gym. But I'm 15 years old and for some reason I cant see them having any real reason to help me much right now because of my experience. But I need a goal. How do I get into an organized fight and get one under my belt?
mma cage VS mma ring? what are your thought I personally believe that fighting ring is a better way to tell how great a mma fighter is because the cage gives to many advantages average or below average mixed martial artist. Imagine if people like Couture fought in a ring with no cage to press guys against I doubt his record would have been any better than 16-8. So whats better the ring or cage. Silly Dustin, I don't hate the ufc I highly dislike Dana White. As a company I repsect what they do but I also think that they can and do deprive the fans of alot also. Plus with White's face plastered over anything and everything mma, the sport will never be taken seriously in the mainstream.
king of the cage video game no more why ? i looked a couple of months back at ign.com, thay said k.o.t.k video game been canceled and just now ( and back then ) i wonder why ? i just played one ufc game throw down, the pride fc game and both are ... let me just say not too bad, could use some work actually more then just some but anyway i think k.o.t.k if done really good would be a great mma\cage fighting game ... i hate to say this but let it be like wwe svr 07 ... in the means of the realistic side of graphics, fighting , movement im not meaning put chairs, all that s##t in the game coz it's mma ... i mean make it more real .. u can do more moves then just a couple ... u know what i mean ?
Fighting Against the Cage? As MMA is usually fought in a cage it is wise to practsie fighting when in the awkward position of being pressed against the cage. Who does this and if so what kind of training/drills do you do. I have wrote an article about this and plan to write another similar one detailing training methods in full. Any comments would be appriciated and referenced in the upcoming article. http://markstraining.com Fighting and Training Methods for the Unarmed Martial Artist.
Human Weapon hosts VERSUS Fight Quest hosts. Fights to the death in an MMA cage, no rules! Who you betting on? All of the following would be at their prime condition. Doug Anderson VS Jason Chambers Bill Duff VS Jimmy Smith OR... Bill Duff VS Doug Anderson OR HECK,EVEN... Jimmy Smith VS Doug Anderson Jason Chambers VS Bill Duff P.S. Jason Chambers VS Jimmy Smith already happened. Jimmy won with a submission. If it was a fight to the death, the submission hold would've been ment to break, thus crippling Jason...which gives Jimmy a greater chance to kill him. Even women like to see a good fight once in a while. Tee-hee~!♥ Please don't answer with just the show name. Answers based on the VS chart I posted would be better. :-)
Has anybody ever died or been crippled in a professional MMA fight? I watch a lot of UFC and MMA stuff and I do Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Taekwondo, the people pound on each other pretty hard in the cage and I've seen some pretty brutal elbows. Has anybody in each of the fighting networks, IFC, UFC, PRIDE etc. ever been crippled or maybe even killed in a fight? I was just wondering so it would be appreciated if you gave an answer. jake who...
What is a good exercise split routine? Mon- Chest, biceps, abs Wed- Triceps, shoulders, abs Fri- Legs, back, abs Thats what my friend told me to do. I am 5' 10" at 150lbs. I been training to fight in MMA cage fights and been doing a consistent full body workout M W F. I did runs so i could get cardio and lifting done togther at same time. My worry is will i still get a good workout on my arms doing them only once a week!?? i do full body so im use to doing everthing 3 times a week so i just wanna know if im still gunna get a good effective workout
If someone challenged you to an MMA fight? Would you fight? If only to test yourself and see if you have the confidence to step into the cage, it probably won't be a fight to the death but for a challenge of skill would you fight someone?
Why is it that boxers get more injured in boxing that MMA's in caged fights? In MMA the usual injuries tend to be minor cuts, scrapes and bruises. Although, sometimes, it gets extremely bloody. In boxing many retire due to major brain or organ damage and to think any MMAer can beat up any boxer any day. Come to think of it, even Football pros get injured more often than in MMA matches. And yet, these footballers barely try to beat up each other in a fight. Yet, MMA warriors built for the kill barely come out with broken ribs and dislocated joints and brain damage but sports meant for just playing get more casualties. Why is that? Sigh..men. XD
cage fighting fakeness is ufc/mma/wec moastly wec played out or on the fakish side cause the last fight with urijah and pulver didnt seem right like urijah was way slower and not looking like he usually does. well you get the picture thanks
Here's a STATEMENT for all of you MMA'ers, this STATEMENT is inspired by the recent talk in the media of a Roy Jones/ Anderson Silva fight...................................................... Anyone with a brain knows that Roy would kill this guy in a boxing match.................................................................................. But here's something for you MMA people to chew on, even in a street or cage fight the MMA fighter first has to get his arms wrapped around the boxer or get the boxer on the ground, OR land some sort of kick- (that can be ducked or blocked or just gotten out of the way of) The best boxers have great legs, great head movement, and great arm blocking and pushing technique- (they sometimes use their forearms)- So it's not an automatic given that the best MMA fighter would even be able to get the boxer out of position to gain the advantage!.................................................. And lastly, the best boxer/punchers can kill or seriously hurt a guy with just one punch, and with those small thinly padded MMA gloves PLEASE!- RESPOND! TapOut- Just like The Watcher said Ray Mercer was a retired old boxer and out of shape!- It's ridiculous for you to even bring that up!............................................. I'm talkin about the top boxers in the primes of their careers!- Even in his prime Mercer was never Hall of Fame material! Robert-Taker is that the best you can do, you give no valid reasons to back your point, SO TAKER- TAKE THIS VERBAL A.S.S. WHUPPIN AND SHUT UP!
Differences : BJJ absolute for MMA, Judo absolute for street ? I want to learn some grappling. Both Judo and Bjj seem powerful. I've seen UFC and BJJ seemed the absolute art. But BJJ may be the absolute art in cage-fights .What about real self defence and not UFC- MMA matches ? Is Judo more effective for self defence than BJJ, while BJJ is more effective for MMA matches than judo ? And when some people talk about the superiority of BJJ , is it that they mean "the superiority in MMA matches " and not "the superiority in the street " ? Because in the street first you punch / kick, but then when the guy comes close to you, you need something to throw him down , and when you do so , you want to throw him in a way that he will be hurt , plus the fact that judo has some ground techniques to immobilize the victim. Because with the opponent you don't want to touch each other so much and instead of falling in the ground, it's better to wreslte so as not to (i talk about the average opponent , and not a bjj'er or judoki opponent )
looking for MMA, Or ufc Cages? where is a website that i can find local cage fighting tournamets,, i have been doing boxing,, freestyle martial arts ,, and mma for 7 months and i am looking for cage fighting tournaments,, i am only 15
Is it good to learn Thai Boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu then take a MMA class or just start off with MMA? So there is this martial arts school around my house and they offer a class in MMA, Hapkido, Tae kwon do, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai. They are basically a MMA facility. But I was thinking. I want to do Cage Fighting but should i jump straight into MMA, and learn everything at once? Or should I do Muay Thai and BJJ then take a MMA class. I am 17 years old and I love to fight and MMA is something i am serious about. Also is BJJ another name for gracie jiu-Jitsu? Thanx to all who reply.
She doesnt accept what i do!!? Ive been dating a girl for about 2 weeks, we get on really well and love spending time with her. It was all well until i told her what my main hooby is! Ive ben doing MMA/Cage fighting for about 10 years and have come to learn not to tell people straight away as they tend to build an opinion before they get to know you. I told my current partner last night... she didnt seem impressed.. atall!! She said its fine but she is acting all weird ..... do you think she is being single minded or do you think i should avoid telling anyone else?? I have had girlfriends in the past who have accepted it but they try to get me to stop.... Thanks in advance for the answers peeps so then Lisa, you expect me to wait till im old to get a girlfriend? i THINK NOT Good answers peeps... keep it up Thanks justme Good answer but that wont work
Do I look that Mean, ladies? I really don't get it. I've been on a few dates lately and once the question of hobbies comes up, I tell them I do MMA(Cage Fighting) and all of a sudden I get bombarded with questions and the last two have said that they can't date a guy with Anger issues and thats what people who do that have... I'm perfectly sane and have always been a nice guy, I don't like street fights(unless forced to) and am the type of guy to buy roses and open doors.. Maybe I look mean?? And no I am not asking if I'm good looking or not, I realize I am average and can at least get dates.. Feel free to comment on that as well, though. http://www.facethejury.com/images/photos/Ni/Ni95cK.jpg http://www.facethejury.com/images/photos/Ni/Ni95cK-4124617.jpg
How would a strong bodybuilder do in a UFC heavyweight fight? I am into bodybuilding myself, but I always wondered how a big strong bodybuilder, with plenty of MMA training of course, would do in a MMA cage fight. I know that strength alone don't win a fight, but technique WITH huge strength should be very dominating. Like Brock Lesnar. But I'm talking about people the shape of Arnold (back in the day), Jay Cutler, and Ronnie Coleman. They'd have to work on endurance, tho. But wouldn't that be some awesome strength to bust out of a submission hold (if someone had one on them), or for some ground and pound! Kimo kinda proved this on UFC 3 vs. Royce Gracie. But I mean bigger and better. Anybody have any opinions???
BrOken bones? If you Broke your bone help me out plz.? Well about two years ago i was training for a really big fight that i had coming up. ((MMA CAGE FIGHTING)) And i broke my rotator cuff. And till this day every time i swing my arm it is the worst pain ever it feels like it pops out. So my question is would that mean i have to get Surgery? because my doc said it just has to hill on its own. Will my arm ever be the same again?
How long have you been a fan of the sport MMA? MMA(mixed martial arts). I was just wondering how long everybody that answers question on yahoo have been a fan of the sport. Who watches Pride, who watches UFC, King of the cage, and who attends fights in their area of the country and who attends UFC events. I have been a fan since about 1997-98.
Why are so many people so ignorant about MMA? [Or UFC or Ultimate Fighting as they incorrectly call it]? If I hear one more person say the "UFC" has no rules, its unregulated, etc. I'm going to puke. You do NOT simply throw 2 guys in a cage! These are the most highly trained athletes in the world. 1) THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "ULTIMATE FIGHTING" The "UFC" is the name of a company! Right now, it is the largest, but it is only 1 company, the sport is MMA - Mixed Martial Arts. A combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Muy Thai and Judo just to name a few. A competitor MUST be versed in standing AND grappling styles - hence the term MIXED Martial Arts. 2) MMA is HIGHLY regulated. FOUR doctors at every event, Pre and Post fight medical evaulations. Medical insurance at the events paid for by the promotor. There is also random steroid testing at all times. 3) There are MANY rules all MMA events must adhere to enforced by state athletic commissions who are in attendence of every event. Unified rules available here: http://www.state.nj.us/lps/sacb/docs/martial.html
