I want to make my ferret a big C&C cage, and does anyone make cheap ferret bedding? I want to make my ferret a big C&C cage, but I dont know what I want it to look like exactly. So if you have a C&C cage for your ferret, could you post pictures? And do you know of anyone that makes custom cheap ferret bedding?
How often should you wash the bedding in a ferret cage? If you have a giant cage with one ferret and you're using blankets and old clothes on the floors of the cage, how often do you need to clean them? can you machine wash them?
Is it okay to have ceder chips for a ferret's cage bedding? Right now my ferret has cat litter for her bedding, and I was wondering if it will be safe enough to change it to ceder, and I don't have anything else to use.
Ferret cage? Another ferret question- sorries! I have been reading up endlessly on ferrets and will probably be buying one very soon. I have read website after website, and checked out (or bought) a couple of books, but one thing that I keep getting different answers for is ferret cages. I will only be having one ferret (at least for now), and need to know everything that has to do with ferret cages. Size, bedding, litter box, water bottle; what kind of cage is the best, how many ramps? Does anyone have a specific cage they would reccomend? Pictures of ferret cages already made up would be great! Don't get me wrong, I know the basics and would probably be just fine with what I know, but extra help doesn't hurt. ;) Another side note is that I won't need to keep my ferret in his or her cage for very long, somebody is always home (I usually always am) and will be able to keep an eye on it. Also- how many litter pans should I buy for out of the cage, and what litter is best?
Can I use cedar bedding in my ferret cage? I have heard that you aren't supposed to use pine or cedar bedding in a ferret cage, but have been using both for the last 3 months with absolutely no problems...
Ferret bedding/ cage? I'm thinking of adopting a ferret but I know little of those little guys. I am looking up information about them everyday making sure how to clip their nails, clean their toiletries, wash their cage more then themselves, etc. But I want to know any other housing that I can use other than JUST a cage. Like a small room. What about just fence a foot high of half of a room? Any suggestions?
What is the best type of bedding to buy for a ferret cage? I've had tons of hamsters all of my life and know that there are loads of different types. I can see by searching for it online that it's the same for all small animals. Which is the best to buy and why? Most importantly...which is the safest?
What bedding is best for a shallow bottomed ferret cage that will absorb the odor but not end up on my floor? Tried Aspen shavings, while they absorb the odor, most of the shavings end up all over the floor. Also tried puppy pads...they do not absorb the odor and my ferrets think it is fun to rip them off the bottom (I taped them down) and potty on the cage bottom that was covered my the pads.
How do I keep my chinchilla from kicking bedding out of the model 142 Ferret Nation cage? I bought a huge ferret nation cage for my chinchilla, but the pan is so shallow that everything gets kicked out. It gets so messy. I don't want to use plexiglass because he will most likely chew it. Any suggestions?
Wood chips/shavings for bedding in a ferret cage? The wood shavings cut back on the odor but is pine or cedar harmful to her respiratory system?
What is the best bedding & covers for a Midwest's Ferret Nation cage? I'm looking for new bedding/cover ideas for my Ferret Nation cage, but don't want to spend a small fortune. (If I can deck out the entire two-story cage for under $100, I'll be happy.) What are your favorite store-bought and custom ferret bedding pieces or sets? Anyone have any creative ideas (that don't require sewing)? Please share any pictures of your set-ups, if you have them. One thing to note is that I've tried to contact a few custom ferret bedding makers and haven't received a response. I'm guessing that Angie from Angie's Creations isn't checking her email any longer. Thanks in advance! @ Cheyann: Thanks for the links/pictures and info. Unfortunately, I have little sewing skills and absolutely no time to make covers & hammocks myself. I like the look of Jen's Custom Craft items, but her prices are by far the highest I've seen. :-/ @ trm925: That's no where close to what I'm asking actually. My question was on Ferret Nation covers and/or bedding, not replacement trays. Please read the question & see Cheyann's response. Also, it's not safe for ferrets to put wood shavings in their cages, which is what those pans are for.
questions about the bedding of a ferret cage..? i just got a 4 month old Marshalls ferret, we have the my Super Pet, my first home for her. a little igloo, a glass bowl for her food, and a triangular litter box. plus a plastic water bottle that hangs on the outside and whatnot. Well here's my question... we put a few old pieces on clothing, and a towel in her cage. She tends to push them around all the time and go underneath the clothing. She burries in the litterbox and when she hides in the clothing we get scared. Is it normal for them to burry? And also, other then clothing, whats another good bedding for the bottom of the cage that won't effect the health!
ferret cage ...? ok so im just wondering if i can put any bedding or newspaper at the bottom of my ferret cage?? or will he eat it and get sick?? thanx =)
will my ferret cage stink if i use blankets instead of pine bedding? and also how often will i need to wash the blankets
do i have to have bedding in my ferrets cage? do i havee to have bedding at the bottom of my ferrets cage or can i use blankets.. old clothes? can i have someideas of what i can use?
What is a good ferret cage for my two fuzzies? I have two ferrets, who are now 5 and 6 years old. Right now they're living in a fairly large Super Pets Deluxe Care Home. It's very well made and I havn't had any problems with the cage. The only issue is that it's beginning to seem a bit crowded for my weasels, so I've been looking for a larger cage with equal sturdiness, safety, and reliability. The Ferret Nation cage has caught my attention and I've read so many great reviews about it. The only things holding me back are the wire ramps and floor. My older ferret has a very petite build and I'm worried that her feet will get caught in the bars of the ramps and she'll injure herself. Also, I'm worried that the wire floor will hurt their feet and create messes. My ferrets are litter trained, but they tend to go outside the box too. I think the wire floor will be very messy for that reason. Right now I have Carefresh Bedding in the bottom of their cage so it is not an issue. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know :)
What should i put in my prairie dogs cage? I dont know what it wants in its ferret cage like bedding houses blocks WhAt For all of you annoying tree huggers i dont have one yet!!! I haven't got one thats why i dont bc i dont know how to care for them yet!!!!!
Rat Bedding and Ferret cages? Okay about the rat bedding, why is the yellowish type of wood shavings is bad? im using right now this care fresh type, and i dont like the color of it because its a dull color. could you tell me wat is bad about it. and is there any other type of good bedding? And about the ferret cage, would the lenght between the wires be to big for rats? Im looking at the one that is on ferret.com and its the first cage on ferret nation cages. If you think that is not good enough please tell the right cage for them that is big, roomy, and perfect...thanks
What is the over-all price for owning a ferret? the ferret cage the bedding food bowl water bowl toys food shots/vet. appt.s shampoo bed and anything else tht adds-into the equation? i just want a generic price. thx!

How do I get my ferret cage to stop smelling? I have two amazing ferrets in one big cage. I love them so much but they smell terrible. Believe me, i have tried EVERYTHING. I've tried every bedding my pet store here has to offer. I clean it everyday.. I don't give them baths alot cause I know it dries their skin out.. But it's not them.. It's the cage. HELP before my parents make me get rid of them.
would a ferret like a bed thats on the floor of the cage or do they only like high up beds? IDK if ferrets like low beds to i took notice that some ferret cages are to small to have a high up bed!!!HEL{P PLEASSE
Ferret bedding, some questions about ferret care/maintenance? So I'm a little confused about some ferret care details. Mostly cage setup. I was planning on getting a hammock (sp), but should I get 2 in case he/she ruins it? I was also going to get one of those plastic water bottles, good idea or should it be in a bowl (and if so, a clip on bowl that will attach to the cage?) I was also gonna get just a simple lock on food bowl. Litter boxes... I already planned on getting a lock-on litter box, and good litter (just to explain I have done a lot of research on ferret care and such, just wanted a little extra enforcement for what I've decided on getting, and I'm purchasing most of the items from ferretdepot.com and most of them have very good reviews.) But, my main question is how to clean the litter. Is is necissary to dump the litter every day? Or can I simply scoop it every day (I've heard to scoop it out twice a day by some), and also to clean it throoughly with soap/disinfectant, etc, every week. Bedding... this confuses me the most. My ferret cage has a deep bottom. Do I need to put bedding in here? I've heard you need to also clean the bedding every week.. but by bedding do they just mean like shirts, towels, etc, or do they mean the actual bedding like... I don't know how to explain it, lol, the little soft chunks of material they sell in bags. >.> cause I've heard it both ways, either using clothes (that they won't get caught on, suffocate in, etc) or bedding. And... can u wash the bedding (the little chunk bedding?) lol. I believe that's the jist of it. I've selecte a good ferret food from ferretdepot.com the Zupreem kind that has 5 stars reviews by most, if not all, of the reviewers on the site. And I've selected ferret treats, supplements, toys, beds, etc. I'm pretty sure I have most of what I'll need... except for the ferret at the moment =D And please, don't try to dissuade me from getting a ferret >.> I've seen some rude people when the topic of ferrets comes up. It seems there's either nice people or people who start to say "Don't get a ferret, you don't know enough, do more research." Or something to that effect. =D Thank you for all the help! Oh, and to show, don't wanna put a ton of links but I'll put the cage link, I got it for $40 used and it's in very good condition. Just a lil cleaning I had to do to it. It's called the Marshall Ferret Townhouse lol http://www.ferretdepot.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=fd&Product_Code=FC328&Product_Count=&Category_Code= Thank you for your wonderful answers! I've done so much research and it seems I still keep getting more and more good advice.
How to keep chinchilla's poop from coming out the sides of Ferret Nation cage? My chinchilla is in the 1 level Ferret Nation cage. The cage is great but the problem is that his poop ends up on the floor. If I put bedding in there it ends up on the floor as well. Does anyone have any suggestions? Chinchillas cannot be litter box trained to poop in one place...plus you can't put anything plastic in their cage.
ferret cages and accessories [maybe donate]...? i just got a new ferret that was $120 and i need a ferret cage, bedding, food, etc. does anyone have anything they can donate or know where i can find these things for cheap? i have hardly any money, please help if you have anything to donate then please email me. thanks:) i didnt get the ferret before i got anything else, i had them put him on hold for me
What's the best thing to line the bottom of your ferret's cage? Okay so what is the best thing to use on the bottom of your ferret's cage. Is it best to use something like care fresh bedding, blankets, or something like linoleum tiles? What do you use? Thanks!
Is it ok to sprinkle baking soda in your ferrets bedding and/or litter box? I figured baking soda would help reduce the smell of urine and waste in my ferrets litter box (and in the bottom of the cage in the bedding since he doesn't use the litter box 100% of the time...) but I wanted to double check that it would be ok for the ferret...?
I give my ferret blankets and bedding but she always moves them and sleeps on the plastic cage floor? She has a pretty big cage (like 3.5 x 2 x 2). It's a solid plastic bottom and wire top. Her litter, food, and water take up the corners, so she likes to sleep along one side of the cage (always the same spot). I line the whole cage with newspaper to make it just a little softer and easier to walk on than the plastic, since she has a hard time getting grip on smooth surfaces and tends to slide around. I then gave her a soft blanket and some old washcloths and clothes to sleep in. But she just piles them up along the other side of the cage and sleeps in a little ball on the hard plastic ground. I thought ferrets were creatures of comfort, so why would she not use the blankets I gave her? I was thinking about getting her a hanging bed, but is it really worth it if she doesn't even sleep in blankets? That would make sense. It IS quite warm out today, mid to high 20s. I've been thinking all day that I hope she's fine since it might get a little hot in the house :S I hope she doesn't flip her water dish and be left with no water :S
How much does a ferret and everything it needs cost? things id need to get: ferret nice cage bedding hammock water dispencer food bowl litter box ferret litter wat would be the total for all tht
How do I keep my ferret from pooping on the levels of a multi-level cage? My wife and I recently bought a ferret and just bought a multi-level cage with four levels including the bottom with his bedding. He started out using the restroom on one side of his bedding just like usual, but here lately he has mainly been using the different levels. Are there any ways we can fix this problem? We have a litter pan and had it in his old cage, but he did not like it very well and dug in it and rarely used it, so I don't know if this could fix it?
Is it ok to use newspaper as bedding for my ferret? I do not like using ceder bedding or any kind like that it's messy and does nothing but make them sick. So would I be able to use newspaper as bedding just for the litter box? I use old towls as bedding for the rest of the cage. I was not sure if it would be a good idea or not.
Please help me with litter training my ferret outside his cage!? I've been trying to litter train my ferret outside his litter box. I bought a corner pan for his cage and he used it about 50% of the time. I switched to a small cat litter box and cut one edge down and replaced his cage bedding with a towel, now he uses the box almost every time (with the exception of overshooting) and that's great. Now I'm trying to train him to use the box outside of his cage. I got him the same size box with the same litter and I put it in the spot he has the most accidents. I'm about a week in and he hasn't used it on his own once. I'm always watching him when he runs around and i pick him up if i see him getting ready to go and put him in the box, tell him he's a good boy, and give him a treat. I've used some of the tricks to get him to stop going in certain places away from the litter box, but now he always goes up to the litter box and poops all around it, but never once in it. I always make sure to move the mess in the litter box and clean the mess up good, but again and again he goes right next to the litter box on either side of it. Any advice on how I can get him to start going in the box?
what should i put in my ferret's cage? im getting a ferret in febuary. im planning everything i need to get for it ahead of time so i'll be prepared and set to buy the stuff. i was thinking i should get like a 3-5 story cage for him so he has plenty of room to mingle and run around, here is what i have in mind: -string attached to the roof with padding on that floor -hammock on top floor -exercise wheel on second floor -food dish attached to cage on second floor -water bottle attached to cage on second floor -litter box and litter on first floor -a little fan to fan smells away -on the 3rd floor will be like a play area with lots of toys and stuff for the ferret to crawl in and burrow and swat about -top floor will be soft and snuggly with a hammock and a padded bed for the ferret to sleep in -'punching bag' will also be in exercise room hanging to roof is this ok so far? should i put his exercise stuff by his bed or by the food? or should i put the food by the bed or exercise stuff? and should i have a little hole for the ferret to bury and hide stuff in? (so it doesn't create it's own) thank you so much for your help tell me what you think! thank you!
im getting a ferret later, need help on a couple things...? i have a big cage, bedding, ferret nuggets from the local pet shop...etc....what i want to know is how much cat food do u give them, when do you give it to them, and what brand (is whiskas ok)?? ive researched everything but cant seem to find this answer?
How can I stop my ferret from shaking the cage? He come out to play during the day, and some more before we go to bed.. they get lots of play time. But it seems that my one ferret is awake way more often then my other one, and he claws and bites the bars of the cage. Not only is it very noisy, but I'm afraid he's going to break a tooth off. Any ideas to get him to stop? He already spends ALOT of time out of his cage. I think he's insomnic.. hah. Thanks in advance!

Ok, So, I am ordering in a New Ferret nation Cage Model 182 (Double) For my little girl and soon to have Little Boy, And I want to have Like Mats for the Bottom and Ramp covers, and Shelf covers, that are Pretty ya know instead of the Plain Blue ones from Ferret.com. I can buy 1 Yard (36 inches which is the exact length of the Ferret nation) for $5 And that is for 1 Floor mat. $10 for the Top and Bottom. I am getting Confused though, I need somebody to help me figure out how much I need to buy and everything. Thanks and please reply soon, I really need this done.
What should I use as bedding for my ferret? By bedding I mean the comfortable "stuff" placed at the bottom of the cage, not where they sleep. I had used a fleeace blanket but he made holes and ate some of it:O. Carefresh bedding runs out quickly and is not easily accesible to me. I will use it if absolutely necessary, but should I use the puppy training pads or hay. I like the hay option because its more natural but im not sure if its safe..fill me in.
How much does an average ferret cost? How much does an average ferret cost including: - ferret -bedding -food -and other supplies -toys -cage Thanks!
Ferret toys, bedding and litter? So I was thinking about getting 2 ferrets and getting a two level cage (the Ferret nation two story one) and i was wondering... 1. What bedding should i use? I was thinking about just using newspaper and changing it weekly, would that work? 2. What should i use for litter? 3. What are some great toys for ferrets? I have tennis balls, would they like tennis balls and could i keep them in the cage and would they be safe? I was thinking about having the first level be covered by newspapers and have litter boxes, water bottles, and maybe some food. Then having the second level covered by old t-shirts, old blankets, beds, hammocks, toys. Would this work? Also should the food be with the bed and play area on the second level or with the litter box on the first level? Maybe have either both water bottle on the first floor and a food dish on the first floor and te second floor have one food bowl? Or should i have 1 water bottle on the second floor two? (and then the other on the first)
Why won't my ferret stop scratching on the bottom of her cage? Ok, when i first got my ferret, i put bedding in it. But then she scratched the bottom of her scatch. So i took the bedding out and now i use old towels but she still scratches on the bottom..
Do you think I set up my ferret cage right? I have a 4 story cage (ferret nation), soft towels at the base of the cage soc when they burrow in the bedding they have a soft, warm, towel to look forward to, cotton-like bedding, food and water bowls, Marshall ferret food, toys (balls, tease toys hanging from the top of the cage, squeaky toys), 2 hammocks so the ferrets will have their own hammock to sleep in, and a litter box filled with ferret-safe litter, 2 wireless electric blankets, one heats up for those cold nights, and another that cools for those hot summer nights when the ac shuts down. (Or when they get to hot from laying on the heated blanket. (Both blankets are on a different side of the cage.) Do you think i'm setting it up right?
Do I need to keep my Hamster cages and a ferret's cage in separate rooms? I will be adding a pair of ferrets to my household this weekend and I would like to bed my hamsters and ferrets down in the same room at night (in their respective cages).
What do you put on the bottom of a ferrets cage? I just got two ferrets but have no idea what to put in the bottom of their cage. Do you use bedding like for hamsters? or do you use fabric of some sort?
What do you think of this ferret cage? I am currently using this cage I bought from Petco: http://www.ferret.com/item/super-pet-my-first-home-2x2-multi-floor-home/650815/ It was a nice starter cage when I got my first ferret, then two, and now I have my third ferret who is obese! The slide and the spiraly thing are coming apart, and it might be time for a new cage. So I've researched this cage: http://www.ferret.com/item/marshall-ferret-penthouse-41l-x-255w-x-57h/651120/ I looove the slide-out tray for easy poop cleaning, and seems roomy. I read the reviews and I see a lot of complaints about damaged parts, which is the downside. I also looked into these two Ferret Nation cages: http://www.ferret.com/item/ferret-nation-habitat-model-142/630503/ http://www.ferret.com/item/critter-nation-double-unit-with-stand-36lx24wx63h/650232/ I love how you can keep adding levels (I believe?), the fact that the door opens to the entire cage, and you can store food, bedding, ect., on that bottom tray. I can't seem to find the difference between the two Ferret Nation cages. Maybe I'm pulling a blonde, but they look exactly the same, with different prices. Which would be the best cage for my fuzzies, and has anyone had any experience with these cages?
Why wont my ferret stay in her cage? I got my ferret Lacey a couple weeks ago and I love her to death but Idk what to do about this issue: she doesn't wanna stay in her cage! It's big enough, has everything she needs in it (toys, water, food, bedding, a play tunnel, litter box) and I let her out ALL day everyday but at night when I put her in her cage she shakes it and bites and just doesn't wanna be in there and its making me lose sleep at night. What can I do?
What sized cage is needed for a Dutch Rabbit? I know that Dutch Rabbits are a smaller breed, not Dwarf, but prety small, right? Anyway, I have my rabbit, Clover, in a 2x2x2 ferret cage with no ledges/shelves/whatever. In her cage is her food bowl, her hay rack/saltwheel combo that I made from half inch mesh chicken wire (I cut (2) 2x3 inch holes in it for her to get the hay out) also, 3 small tossing and chewing toys, her resting platform (her cage doesn't have a wire bottom or anything, but I noticed that she would dig a hole in the aspen bedding and lay on the bare cage floor, so I pout the platform in there so I didn't have to keep emptying shavings from her food bowl and sweeping the floor. There is also a 3 sided corner hammock that she likes to stand on. I haven't started working on litter training her yet (I got her a week and 3 days ago, so I am giving her time to get really comfortable with my house first) I can't let her out very often because we have cats and dogs and they can all jump over the baby gate into my room. I do not have a basement, I do wish she could have more time out, I have built a small cardboard playpen so I can let her out in the living room, but the problem is that everytime I want to let her out in any area of the house I have to lock all 4 of our dogs and all 3 cats in the tiny bathroom (6x8 ft roughly) It wouldn't really be a problem, since the dogs are all dachshunds and one yorkie, but the dogs howl and bark nonstop and you can hear it anywhere in my house and the noise scares clover so she doesn't want to come out of her hiding house. I know my cats would be mean to her because one of them (The youngest) reaches through the bars of her cage and tries to grab her, I try to stop him everytime nhe does it, but I can't sit in my room all day to make sure he doesn't do it, he even does it at night to my rat as well. My other cat is an avid hunter and has killed wild baby bunnies and squirrels before. The dogs are all of the hunting or vermin kiling type. I really love her, she is such a spunky little girl, she is constantly boxing my hand/the toys away when I play with her with her toys. She is happy most of the time because she binkies alot, but she sems really bored when I am not playing with her. When I get a new apartment or something after college, I wil not have any problem at all because then all I'll have is the two cats (can be locked in the bathroom easily) my ferret who can stay in his cage when she's out and my rat who honestly doesn't care about anything but her food. I don't have an issue with my ferret being out because it seems that the cats are more afraid of him than he is even slightly aware that they exsist. I have to watch the dogs though, but he does a good job against them too, I just have to referee, but a rabbit doesn't really stand much chance against all those teeth.... I play with her serveral times during the da;y, but she has to stay in the cage when I do it, I toss her TP roll around in front of her and she tosses ittonto a different spot, I wiggle her stuffed bone toy in front of her nose and she boxes it out of my hands and I shake her jug toy I made for her in front of her and she either boxes it or tries to get it out of my hands to toss it, depending on her mood. We play: in the mornings for about 15 minutes, after I fill her food bowl and hay rack for a few minutes until she get's hungry and goes to eat, wafter I change her bedding she get's especially frisky and wants to play for around 15 -20 more minutes, and then often I play with her/give her a treat and pet her for about 10 minutes at night before bed. I don't have a problem with interacting with her, I would love to have her out with me all day every day if I could, I am just so concerned for her safety around my families other pets I am too scared to risk her getting attacked.
I NEED FERRET INFORMATION A.S.A.P? i want to get a ferret but i need some advice on what they need , basicly how much would the total price be , cage , bedding , ferret, food , ? any help would be really cool !
Ferret Nation Cage + Chinchillas = Disaster? We got a Ferret Nation Cage (http://www.midwesthomes4pets.com/category/default.aspx?submenu=2&catid=29) and since the bottom pan is so shallow, their bedding goes EVERYWHERE. We can't NOT use beddng because they aren't litter box trained... so we aren't sure how to keep the bedding in the cage. Any suggestions (besides litter box training)?
ferret bedding help? PLZZ ANSWER? hi people, i am getting a ferret hopefully but i need to know what sort of bedding to use for the litter tray and then the rest of the cage. the cage is my old rabbit cage which we've had for ages with no rabbit inside we just never got rid of it. Its two story and still safe but im not sure if i should put some tiles down or a towel or some other material because the floors a bit choppy, its going to have a little bed/sack sort of thing and a hammock and a few other stuff i just dont know what to use for the litter bedding and the rest of the cage so plzzz answer
Ferret flooring for her cage? My ferret has a bad leg and she slips around in her cage, ive put down newspaper, and this bedding i bought a the pet store. What would be good, and it has to be able to be cleaned because she sometimes poops on the floor.
What would make good toys for a young ferret? We have cage, bedding, hammock for sleeping, water dispenser, food, bedding - but no toys for this baby - and as playful as it is, I am wondering what some good ferret resistant toys would be .
Ferret Cage And Info? Hi, I am thinking about purchasing a ferret and have read a lot of stuff about them. We have a barely used dog cage that isn't extremely huge, but big enough I think for a ferret who gets out alot. Is it okay to use? The spaces in between the metal bar things aren't big enough for a ferret to get through. It looks like this cage, only a bit smaller and the spaces between mesh/bars aren't as wide. http://www.dog.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=110426+001&srccode=DNEXTAG Is that kind of cage okay? We have cats and can't let a ferret run free the whole day while we're gone. Otherwise we would. Is bedding necessary? We'll provide a pillow case and a blanket in the cage, some hiding places, and build some different levels, is that enough? Because I know some people just let their ferrets around the house, and the ferrets don't have or need any shredded bedding you can buy at a pet store. What do you think? Are pillow cases and a blanket okay? Thanks!!
ok ferret noise solution what do you have in your cage so when they fall out of bed at night they dont ...? wake up on the cage floor scratching. i have a 4 story ferret nation cage. i have 2 ideas. one is put a towel on every floor to dampen the sound of her claws and 2 is get a bunch of carpet peiced that way i can replace. Has anyone ever used like astro turf for reptiles in there. they can be removed and washed. help help i slept ok last night but i dont know if i can wake up every 3 hours waiting for her to go back to sleep. we just got her yesterday. I'm sure she is bored and we do plan on getting another to be her bud. Her claws seem like they might need clipped. hurray for carpet and astroturf. we will do. she has one she can't fall out of but she sleeps in it in the winter. she falls out of bed when she wakes up and scratches. Also we have 1 kitten and 1 cat for her to play with but she isn't used to them yet. we are getting her a bud next month. I'm going to build her a rubbermaid rice box too. so i let her do it in the cage or out?
What size ferret cage? OK, so I am a new mommy to a bonded pair of 6 month old ferrets. I was curious what to do about a cage. They are out alot so do they have to have a huge 3 level cage? Just curious if its absolutely neccessary. Affording one is not the issue, I am living in a one bedroom apartment right now while I build my house and a cage that big just takes up alot of room. I am borrowing a little 2 story cage right now. I know there is lots of controversy on how ferrets should be raised, fed, etc. Any personal experience is welcome. I'm new to this and want to insure that my babies live a long healthy life. Also, I want some homemade toy ideas! ( Again, I can afford to buy toys...but I like to conserve as much as possible...especially if the ferret has fun and doesnt care how much you paid for the toy anyway) Also, I had a friend that let her ferret sleep in the bed almost every night. This seemed odd for a ferret...I would be nervous they would get up in the middle of the night and get into something they weren't supposed to. They are very curious by nature and tend to think everything is interesting.(even if its dangerous for them). Thanks :)
Can i put an old towel or blanket in a ferret's cage? is it ok to put an old towel or blanket instead of rodent bedding?
I need some ideas for a ferret cage? I am going to get a ferret tomorrow at my local pet store. I have contacted them, and they do have ferret cages. I just need to know which is best . . a regular ferret cage or a ferret condo. When I say "ferret condo" this is what I mean . . http://www.katzdogsve.com/Condo.jpg I'm just a bit worried that my ferret might fall off of something and hurt himself. Do you think I should worry about this? Now, moving on to my next question. What kind of decorations and accessories should I provide my ferret with? As in toys? Is there any specific type of bedding that you would insist for me to purchase? Also, if you have a ferret, it would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me about your ferret's cage; pictures would be amazing. Are ferrets bad for biting? Any name suggestions? I'm going to get a male. I have one last question . . do ferrets make any noises? Like a hamster squeaks, and a guinea pig whistles . . what does a ferret do? I have researched my tail off for the past three days. I bet I have read over ninety articles on ferrets. I would just like to hear from some real people. Whoever can answer all parts of my question thoroughly, will get the best answer. Thanks so much everyone!
Can hamsters, rabbits & ferrets all use the same type of bedding? What is the best type to get? As mentioned in one of my questions yesterday, I'm bringing donations to Humane Society, & don't want to leave out the little furry pets, so I wanted to bring bedding. Do I get the wood chips, or can you tell me specifically what brand to get? Can I bag be used for hamsters, rabbits & ferrets, which are all at the shelter, or does each animal require a different type of cage bedding? I'm asking cause I don't know about this. Thanks! - What else is a good donation idea? (Other than money- I like to bring them actual items)
Alternative for ferret cage? Im getting a ferret. But of the cages are so much money. -Whats a good ferret cage that i can get from Petco or Petsupermarket? -And also would i be able to use another animals cage such as- Dog cage/bird/rabbit things like that? And just cover all the wire and stuff with bedding and soft stuff like that? If not why? Explain please lol. I CAN afford them. Moy parents are making me pay for the ferret, cage and starting supplies. They will pay fr food and other necessitys. Were just trying to save a little money.
OTHER ferret bedding? I rescued a very feeble, pathetic looking ferret nearly a month ago. I have put her on vitamins and i fed her properly and she is so healthy now so I want to start getting her cage in order... the problem is, i dont think the previous owner used any kind of bedding. With the confetti bedding she pushes it all out, i have put down puppy pads and paper towels and she destroys them.. she only goes potty in one corner of her cage so i got her a little litter box and she pulled all the litter out and kept moving the litter box out of the way to go potty behind it.. is there anything I can do? I hate leaving her cage totally bare on the bottom because it looks so.. depressing.. maybe she just doesnt like it? Thank you
how much to buy and maintain ah ferret? how much would it cost to buy, and maintain ah ferret? this includes ah cage, food, ah sleeper, bedding toys etc... and how much would i need to spend on food and bedding for one ferret every month. and do they get along well with other pets like dogs and cats?
my ferret wont stop trying to get out her cage? i got this ferret.and she is in her orignal cage from where she was for 3 months. and i let her out of her cage for 6 hours a day then it comes down to me going to bed and she rattles on the door and bites and makes so much noise. i dont know what to do to make her stop ive tried yelling at her. tried spraying water at her each times she does it. i just dont know what to do about it.
Everytime I let my ferret out of his cage to run around, he poops. Why is he doing this? His litter box is clean. He poops and pees in the same spot, but in different places around the house. Bathroom, under my bed, etc. What can I do?
i need fun/funky design ideas for a homemade ferret cage =D? my ferret, bagel, is the babe of my life =) so me and mum (the DIY expert lol) are going to build a cage for her, even though she only ever goes into her cage on a night if she isnt in my bed lol. we're gonna make a big one, around 3 stories high, we know what sorta materials would be appropriate and to make it escape proof and all of that but what i need is just photos of other homemade cages, fun/clever design ideas, websites n stuff =) it will be in the house so it needs to look nice too =D cheers xxx

Ferret or Ipod? Well, the school year is ending and since so far Ive managed to have all A's, I decided to reward myself if they're maintained throughout the end. I've narrowed down my decisions to either a ferret or an Ipod touch. The total cost for the ferret and the accessories needed will cost about $300-350 dollars. (cage, ferret, food, bedding, etc.) The Ipod touch will cost about $400 for the 16 GB and $500 for 32 GB. I will also need $100 extra dollars for items for the Ipod touch so it would be about $500-600. So my question is, knowing Im paying for this, which should get; A ferret or an Ipod touch?
Questions for Ferret Owners? What is the best brand of litter to use? Also what should I use for bottom of the cage bedding? Finally there is nook under my loft bed. Should I put my ferret's cage under there or next to the window (Either way it is out of direct sun light and out of the A.C.'s path)
What are some cool store bought rat cage accessories? I just saw some pictures of a rat cage & the woman added a wire storage shelf as a little bed/nesting area. She sad she bought it at Home Depot & I began wondering what little things I could get at a hardware store that would work well in a cage. I'm also very curious about adding on large platforms like in the Ferret Nation cages. Any idea? Thanks, pictures would be great too!
How much money would it take to responsibly own a ferret? Other than cage and ferret start-up costs, I mean what kind of medical care do they need/what price range is it in? What kind of litter and bedding are best for them? What diet is best? What toys do they like? We're considering adopting a ferret but I don't want to be like the new puppy and kitten owners in my clinic who come in saying "I had no idea their vet care would cost this much." Any words of wisdom?
I am thinking about getting a ferret for the first time. I don't want to keep it in a cage. Good idea? I live in a small second-story apartment/flat. Ferret owners, tell me if it's a horrible idea to let my little friend have rein of my flat. (I would give her a small doggy bed and litter bin to use, of course.)
How to get rid of fleas on a ferret??? I have a ferret, dog and cat. I have the fleas pretty much controlled on my dog and cat...flea collars...I do not know how to get rid of the fleas off my ferret. I give him a flea bath at least once a week and wash his bedding and cage once a week. I don't let him run around in the house right now until we can fumigate and have the carpets cleaned. Pleaes help! I feel so bad for him!
Bedding for a ferret.? I am going to buy all the stuff for my ferret today and get it set up before I go get him but what kind of bedding should I use in the bottom of the cage? I am going to use Marshall Pet Ferret Litter in the litter box. Should I put down any bedding at all? He'll have a hammock and a little bed to hide in and stuff but won't they be uncomfortable walking on the wire bottom of the cage? Ok I just went a head and took that cage back since it hadn't been used and I didn't take it out of the box and bought another one that has a deep smooth bottom and two upper levels that are smooth also so we now have no wire bottom that he will have to walk on. I have a litter box in the corner with litter in it and I was thinking maybe if I didn't use bedding in the bottom right away that would make him want to use the litter box since it does have stuff he can scratch around? I was thinking it would be easier to litter box train them if you didn't have anything they like to scratch around in on the bottom of the cage. For example: The ferrets at the pet shop poop in the bedding in the bottom of the cage instead of in the litter box even though they have both and have litter in the box. Does this make since? I would put the bedding down for him once he got trained but just not right away. Is this a good idea
I just recently got a new ferret and have a few questions? I've been doing some reading/research on ferrets since I'm now a proud owner of one. I've been reading that you're not supposed to bathe a ferret that often due to increased oil production when bathed too frequently. But she's constantly smelling like pee and I don't feel as if she's clean (I clean her cage at least 4 times a week). If I were to use a ferret specific shampoo such as Pet Scentsations Premium Ferret Shampoos would it have the same effect? Or would there not be as much oil production? My other question is how exactly to litter train her. What kind of litter should I be using? I've read that anything that clumps/clay is bad for them. Should she have any bedding in her cage? She has a hammock and sleeps in that mostly. One last question. How do I get her to eat more dry food than wet food? I know they will smell a little. I am planning on taking her to the vet. She was a Marshall ferret (got her at PetCo). I belive she's up to date on her shots and is spayed.
how much would buying and maintaining a ferret cost? how much would it cost to buy and maintain a ferret, this would include cage, food, toys, sleeper, deoderizing shampoo etc.. and how much would bedding and food cost per month for on ferret.
is corncob bedding...? okay to use in the bottom of my ferrets cage? not as litter bedding? I ran out of other bedding, and i had that for his litter box- but he didnt like it- so can i use it for the bottom of his cage? Thanks
Ferret banging on cage bars? I adopted my ferret about 2 months ago. She's a wonderful cute 2 year old. She's always disliked her cage but lately as soon as I put her in her cage she immediately starts biting on the bars and yanking at them. My cage couldn't take the abuse and she was able to pull back one of the bars in order to escape. My question is, what can I do to make her relax and enjoy being in her cage? What toys can I get her to play with inside her cage that will keep her entertained through the night? She's not crazy about balls and rolling things. She's mostly fond of things that are soft and that make noise. Please help, I'm losing sleep over this and getting really frustrated. P.S. She gets about six hours out of her cage each day but lately since she broke her cage she's out full time running around my room. I don't like this because she climbs on my bed and wakes me up during the night. Could she just be spoiled?
Help me find a new rat cage!? Right now I have a huge ferret cage for my three rats. There is bedding at the very bottom (what they are SUPPOSED to poo and pee on) They pee there. And everywhere else in the cage. It's horrible and miserable to clean. They've chewed holes in the bottom corners of the bottom (plastic) part. I need another kind of cage. I have no idea what kind. But it has to be chew resistant, under or around $150, and easily cleaned :) If anyone has any suggestions or advice, please tell me!
How to get my ferret use to there new home.? I bought a ferret today and i got a new cage for him...i put him in the cage and left for about 45 mins when i got back he was crashed out in the corner... i had to put him in the hammock, i hope he doesnt fall in the morning! what should i do to get him use to his cage and will he fall in the morning? and if so should i put him back on the bottom? P.S. Do i put bedding all over the surfaces of the cage or just the bottoM? What, my ferret fell asleep on the bottom of the bedding, not the hammock...How do i get my ferret to get use to his new cage...
What is the best sized cage for only one ferret? I've been doing my research on ferrets for about a week now, and I'm considering getting one. I've put enough money aside to pay for its food, bedding, litter etc. expenses, as well as vet expenses. I realize they take A LOT of time and effort and patience to take care of, and that's something I'm willing to commit to. The only thing I have a question about is what is a decent sized cage for one male ferret? I realize that males tend to get way bigger than females as they age, so does anyone know what the perfect size would be, not too small, but not ridiculously large either, or maybe even multiple levels? If you can help please tell and redirect me to a page where I can get the perfect, affordable cage, thanks :].
How do I get my ferret to stop eating everything? I have 2 ferrets the male is 3 years old and the female is 4 months old. My female ferret eats everything! She ate 2 of their hammocks, eats the bedding and all the toys I put in their cage to play with. I let them out everyday to play and i always feed them but she is constantly eating everything. My male ferret never did anything like this when he was her age so I dont know why she is doing this. Everytime I clean their poop she always has peices of whatever she ate in it. How do I get her to stop?
Do you have any suggestions for my ferret nation? Is my ferret nation cage set up well enough for two ferrets? They use the one litter pan, and share the dishes. Believe it or not.. they both turn their noses to water bottles. Very picky things. :P But i was wondering where the BEST place is to get ferret nation bedding? I would really love to get a good deal on a complete set of FN bedding. Ramp covers, shelf covers, tray covers, beds, hammocks, sleep sacks, cubes.. EVERYTHING. If you can help, would be nice. This is their cage: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/marytaylor/2008_0402yume55550001.jpg This is Godzilla, the man of the house: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/marytaylor/GodzillaandYumee001.jpg And this Yume: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/marytaylor/YUME3.jpg ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Another completely off topic question i have, is it alright to feed them cooked chicken livers? I prepared some for them in a pan, with a little water added, i got all of the grease out of them, let them cool, and then chopped them up. Is it alright for them to eat these?
How Can I get my Mom to letting me get A ferret?! I really want one. my mom Does not like how long they are and She AND mY Dad thinks I can't take care of one. My dad, if my mom says yes he says yes. Also I am gonna Do all the stuff liike buy to cage buy the ferret, buy the toys, the food and change the bedding and stuff. Is There anything eles I can do to let her let me buy one?! HeLLLLLLLLLLLLLppppppppppppp!
Can ferrets live in a playpen not a cage? I am getting 2 ferrets in about a week, so since playpens are half the price of a cage, i was thinking of buying 2 playpens and having 1 at my moms house and 1 at my dads. can they like in a playpen indoors instead of an actula cage? we would put all the same things inside of it, like the litterbox, the hammock, and the toys, food, and water. And bedding. So can I do that?
Do pet ferrets really need a cage? I'm buying a ferret soon, and the large cages are pretty expensive. I'll buy one if I have to, but couldn't the ferret just sleep in like a small dog bed or in my bed? It could be like a cat, right, with the food and water and toys in appropriate spots. Also I was wondering if they use litter boxes or something.
got new ferret.............Now what???????? We just paid $285.00 for ferret and cage and feed and bedding etc. I haven't got a clue about how to train it to use it's $20.00 litter box.., stop eating only "wet food", Not use it's Food bowl for a "Litter box....ETC.....lol Help????????
Hey, anyone want to give away a ferret ??? Im looking for a ferret, i've been looking for 2 years now, and can seem to find one thats right for me. Im not looking to spend money on one, cause im short on money, but i have enough for a cage, toys, food and bedding. So if someone has a ferret, please PLEASEEE let me know !!!!!
When I sleep, can I let my 2 ferrets sleep out of there cage with me? They won't fall off the bed or anything if i have pet stairs and if there in a ferret proof room?
I want to get a ferret.... I just wanted a bit of real advice about ferrets. I live in Ontario so they are legal, and I know they are a popular pet as they are now the 3rd most popular in the US. I share a house with 3 other people, so I would have to keep it in my room. My room is large, so there is room for a large care which he would be in most of the day. How bad is the smell, really, in a room if the ferret is descented? (Room is maybe 13 feet by 13 or so.) I know they sleep alot, but are also nocturnal.. Will he keep me up all night? If I am allergic to cats, is it likely I will be alergic to a ferret? (I know they are of similar demenour but not sure about their actual.... ferrety-ness) I work 7am-6pm so would it be ok for it to be in it's cage for that long? What is the overall price (other than the inital cost of the ferret and cage and some toys) monthly? As far as food, bedding, and other ferret supplies that have to be replaced often? Any help/stories/advice would be appreciated!
Is Pet Sensations Dry Ferret Shampoo safe to use on ferrets daily or 2x daily? She smells really bad and I do eveything I am supposed to be doing. She is eating a good ferret food with high protien, no fish, and no animal bi-products. She is on bi-odor. I scoop the litter box 3 times a day. I throughly clean her cage and change her bedding and litter every three days. I give her a bath every month. She is fixed. She is descented. I keep the area around her cage clean. I clean bowls and water bottles every day, and keep her toys clean and wash/replace them when neccessary. I also give her clean t-shirts in her cage every day and I know she smells, not the cage. Anyway, the dry shampoo seems to do a good job of keeping her from smelling when I give it to her every day or two times a day and it says it is safe to use as often as needed, but it says it absorbs dirt and (whitch is good) moisture, whitch it also known as oil; and I know it is not good to stripe the furs of their oils but I'm not sure if it is safe even though it says it is. And my mom thinks its safe and says that even if it isn't safe that she'd rather her skin be itchy and flaky that to smell her and I could'nt keep her if she smells, (because we live in a really nice house). And I would really appreciate any advice about how to keep her from smelling and an answer to my question. P.S: The smell when she is not using the shampoo isn't just mild, it's horrid. Alright, we took her to the vet last week and he said she was in good health, we have ear and teeth cleaning supplies. I just checked her ears and teeth and they look good to me. She has two corner litter boxes one, she poos in and it is Yesterdays News Ferret Litter, and in the other litter box in Pet Fresh Bedding, whitch she sleeps in somethimes the bedding that is actually on the cage ground is t-shirts and blankets. She does have a good cage it is 2 story Ferret Nation Cage. I play with her and give her out of cage time 3-4+ hours a day. She has tons of toys in her cage. And seems itchy, since I give her the dry shampoo everyday. And in Ferrets for dummies, whitch I have it says decenting wont solve the problem, cause it only give a occasonaly "poof" like a skunk when their scared. And she is descented. I dont know what else to do to keep her from smelling besides the dry shampoo, please help! Here is some more information: My ferret, Winnie, is 4 months old and I got her last month. The vet said that she smells like a healthy ferret and the musky odor is normal. (How could he tell if she smelled worse than normal anyway, he's in an animal clinic.) Just joking. Hope that additional info will help you answer my question.
I'm considering getting a pet ferret, what should I know first? I am considering getting a pet ferret. I have never owned one before, though I have owned many different pets, and cared for them very well. I already have a vet that treats exotic animals (we take our rats there regularly). I would either get a neutered ferret, or get it neutered soon after (if it wasn't), because I know that they need that to be healthy. I would, of course, get my ferret vaccinated and checked up regularly. I am considering this site for cages: http://www.martinscages.com/products/cages/ferret/ I would like to know how much room a ferret needs in their cage, and which of these cages would be large enough. I use Carefresh bedding for my pets. Is this okay to also use with ferrets? Or is there something better to use? Or do they not need bedding? I understand that ferrets can be littered trained, is it hard to do this? Are commercial pet foods good enough to feed ferrets? If not, what should I feed them? What else should I know in order to be a good ferret owner? I already have a hammock (for my rats, but they like their other one, and don't use this one), and would probably get a second. I wouldn't dream of trying to keep a ferret in a cage. I already have three rats (which would live on a different floor than the ferret, if I got one, for their safety), so I understand that some pets need have cages to live in, but need a lot of attention and play time outside of it. We have a lot of cords (computer cables and electrical cords) in our house. Would a ferret go after those? Would it be enough to tape or staple them down?
Is a ferret right for me? Animals are my passion in life, and for about 6 months I've been very dedicated to finding the perfect pet for me. At first I was very interested in rats, but after experiencing them first-hand at a friend's home, I have changed my mind. Ever since I have been researching and learning about pet ferrets. I'm not quite sure if I should get very in depth with conclusions on how to get one or not. I have researched pretty much everything there is to know about them- food, cage, bedding, toys, vet, etc. and plan on giving them the best care possible. Money could be a slight problem, but I'm positive I could work something out. I don't get bored with things very easily, and I understand that ferrets live a pretty long time and that they take a lot of patience and care. I realize that they have an odor to them, which may bother my parents, but not me. I know there are products out there to reduce the smell, and also daily bed changings help as well. I'm very responsible and --> patient and have been very dedicated to any pet that I've owned. The ferret would most likely be a single ferret, although I'm sure he'd be fine as I have a lot of free time in the afternoons to play with him. There is an exotics vet not to far from me, and several pet stores nearby. I understand the diet needs of ferrets, and even though I'm vegetarian, I could work something out with fresh meats. I really do think that I could handle a ferret, but I'd like others' opinions for now. So, do you think I'm ready for a ferret? Thanks! Sorry, I meant I know that I need to scoop out the litter pan daily, not the enitre cage.
Our ferret? Our ferret is getting close to being a year old. He was born in October, and we got him in December. He has been having a lot of sneezing fits lately. I don't know what could be causing it other than allergies, but I do not know what he would be allergic to. We have been using the same food and same bedding. His cage has been sitting in the same spot in our house that it's been in for a couple of months. He is also becoming more lethargic. He used to be awake all hours of the day and night, and only slept occasionally. Now he sleeps more than he is awake, and when he gets out of his cage to play with the cats, he tires out quicker than he used to, and he normally finds something to crawl under and goes to sleep, until we find him and put him back in his cage. We are going to make him a vet appointment for the week after next (because we are going on vacation soon). But I was wondering if anyone knows what might be causing this. We do not have time to take him before we go. I am working longer than my 10 hour shifts up until the day we leave (I'm only working about 6-7 hours that day I hope. We are leaving on Thursday, my husband is on 12 hour midnight shifts right now, so he can't take him either. He will be staying with my parents while we are away, who are very good at taking care of pets, so I'm sure they will get him an appointment sooner if he gets any worse.
Can I handle my new ferret? A friend just gave me there ferret earlier today and I was wondering if I can take him out of the cage and handle him yet or should I wait a week to let him get use to his new home? If I need to wait how could I help him get used to us? Also are pine shavings a good bedding?

I Want A Pet But Have 3 In Mind! Which Is The Best, Easiest To Own And Cheaper Out Of: Rat/Chinchilla/Ferret? I Just Want A Pet That Will Be Happily Sleep All Day When I'm At School But Able To Play With When I Get Home, And That Is Relatively Cheap To Buy Food And Bedding For. Rats: Would Probably Be My First Choice As They Are The Smallest And Would Probably Cost The Least. They Can Sit On Your Shoulder If Your Going To The Shops Or Out With Your Mates. Chinchillas: Are Soooo Cute But Need More Space Than A Rat And I Think They Are More Expensive And Need More Care. They Can't Be Taken Out Of The House Either. Ferret: They Are Bigger Than Rats And You Can Take Them For Walks On A Lead. But Then They Need A Bigger Cage And People Say They Smell Quite A Bit..... So Please Help Me People! Im 16 And Want One Of Those 3 For A Pet. Please Can You Tell Me What You Think Would Be Better For Me, The Easiest To Care For And The Cheapest Thanks xXx
Ferret questions.? Long story short, my son got a ferret from his dad. The ferret was terribly neglected in a divorce situation while it stayed at his dad's house. (My son and I live out of state 8hrs away). So the dad demands we take the ferret with us, we did and this poor thing is so emaciated. He had cat food in his pen. We brought him outside to play and he wobbles on the back end. I am hoping this is either a normal ferret thing, or it is from lack of muscling due to being cooped up in his cage. Not sure. So yesterday, the day after we get the ferret home, I spent $120 dollars on supplies and feed and bedding and cage and harness and treats and blah blah blah. The feed I got has high taurine, he has a water bottle, his cage isn't real huge about 3 ft by 1.5ft, but the ferret only stays in it during work hours, he is out with my son playing except sleeping times. He appeared to eat all the food I gave him last night, I am hoping he isn't hiding it in his bedding. How much do I feed him? I have alpine bedding for litter?? Can I use regular sawdust from pine trees? What things do they like to do, we are going to take it to the barn with us to let it play on a leash of course, what else do they love to do. I know nothing about these things, she is 3 yrs old, very active and playful for the bad shape she was in. She is very very sweet. So any positive comments would be helpful. I am giving her all the food she wants right now until she is back up to snuff on her weight. Then I don't know what to do for feeding. Thanks so much!!
Question about Ferrets? Ok so today I had like a huge debate with my friend and her family about ferrets. I always thought that Ferrets were illegal in California. But then we went to Petco today, and we saw all these things for ferrets such as cages, beds, and toys. So are they legal in California now or what? Oh and she said that there was one time where a ferret bit a baby's toe off or something which made it illegal. Is that true or was it something else? Thanks.
my ferret has a rash? its orangeish yellow with small red dots in it. its on her belly above her tail, under her right leg. i dont know what to do i thought mites caused it so i got ear mite stuff at petsmart put it in her ears and the rash-that didnt work. so then i washed her in ferret shampoo changed her cage bought all new stuff like beds, toys, bedding. i even tryed puting her in a diffrent room its still there.i havent changed her food she has had it since she was 9 weeks old. so i dont know whats wrong. HELP!!!!!!!
My ferret is balding! Please help!!!!? I bought my 7 year old ferret a new (smaller) cage a few months ago. I have added 'carefresh' bedding to the cage since there was only a plastic bottom. PJ (my ferret) has not been in this bedding since I bought him. Since then, he has lost hair on a portion of his back, the top of his head, his belly and his tail. Could the bedding be causing this? Since it is recycled newpaper, I was thinking it might be taking the oils out of his fur. He's very itchy and has been quick to bite. All's he does all day is itch. Please help!
ferret maintenance? ok i have a female ferret i have trained her to use litter box. I let her get sufficient sleep and when she wakes up she is usually pretty hyper and will follow me not directly behind but like stalking me by following but hiding when i stop to play i clean her cage and bedding as often as possible. i rarely bathe her because thats what ferrets prefer since i keep her cage clean anyways she usually smells good. i change her water 2-3 times a day. she doesn't bite and she likes human interaction I've bought some toys and improvise by making or using household items. and she seems to like living with me so I'd like to know other peoples opinions whether they own a ferret or not and if theres anything that someone could mention that i could do to make her stay with me better and she has learned many tricks she responds to some of my actions and words she is on the way to rolling over she'll stand up so yea and she doesn't really like treats very much so no one please don't say use treats
Can you house train a ferret like a dog? I have a ferret whos a 1yr old and i want to train her to sleep in a "bed" and just litter train here instead of her living in a cage.....is it possible?
What is the best bedding to use for my ferrets? I know better then any wood shavings but my vet said try the feline pine litter.. i did.. it blows hardcore turns into sawdust. so i tried the yesterdays news.. it smells horrid. what are my other options here? thier cage is huge and they have like 5 litterboxes but none the less even with cleaning it every other day its hard to maintain!
Should I have taken that ferret? I went to the oet store today to get my hamster a new house. As I was walking in the door, I checked the adoptions table like I normally do. Sitting in a cage with no litterbox, no bed, was the sweetest black-eyed white ferret. As a ferret mom of 5 and a foster ferret mom, I am feeling guilty that I did not take it home with me. I know that the pet store people will just adopt her out to the first person to ask for her and not really try to find her a good home. Should I have taken her home with me and tried to find her a good home myself? I feel rather bad about it.
New Chinchilla! Best cage setup? I got a chinchilla today. I've wanted one for a very long time. I bought a 3-tiered cage (similar to a ferret cage) and the bottom has a grating above the tray with the bedding in it. I thought I read chinchillas like to dig in the bedding but obviously this isnt possible with this setup. I can remove the bottom if necessary. Any suggestions on a small dwelling for inside the cage? I also bought one of those big hamster balls but he didnt seem to know what to do in it. Any suggestions welcome!
What is the most nutritious ferret food? I have had ferrets in the past, but they always smelled terrible. I now know that this is due to un proper cleaning, such as the ears and cage. I also know that the smell is due to a poor diet. I just rescued a baby ferret (with a broken tail). He is a Marshall ferret, so of course he is stuck on the Marshall food at the moment. I am planning on switching his food gradually, but I am wondering what the best food to switch him to is. I was thinking Totally Ferret, but if there are any other suggestions, I would really appreciate them. Also, any bedding, liter, or smell control suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
