How To Build A Ferret Cage Knowledge Base

How to build a ferret cage? Hi! I already have a four storey wooden ferret cage with two front doors. It is an excellent made cage and my ferret has lived in it for four years now. But i would like to treat him to a new one and this time i would like to make it myself. Any ideas on how i can build a four or five storey wooden ferret cage? I am not very handy but would love to achieve making this for my little boy :-) Thanks to everyone that can help me!
What can I use to build a ferret cage? I have a wire shelf: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a185/lipglossjunkiex3/yershmangeimer002.jpg and I want to make it into a ferret cage, so what should I use for the floor/ramps? And how can I make a hammock?
How can I build a sturdy, and safe ferret cage? I have a ferret that I have just adopted from a lady on Craigslist. She said she would come with a "small cage", but I didn't realize she meant literally a one story guinea pig cage. I can't let my ferret sleep in that it's far to small, but I'm also a college student and I don't have a job over the summer. Right now, I can't afford to buy a primo cage for $150. Every time I look up how to build a ferret cage on the internet, I get back really general, unhelpful guidelines. I need a specific design telling me exactly how to build a suitable ferret cage. I don't want to design it myself because I'm afraid it won't be safe or sturdy enough. For example, I know you can't use wood, because the pee from the fuzzies will soak into the wood and make it smell and rot. But I don't know how to weld! How would I even build a ferret cage out of metal? I just don't know anything, does anyone have any experience with building suitable ferret cages?
how can I build a homemade cage ramp for my ferret? I would like to use common house things. I already built the cage and I just need ideas of how to build the ramp. considering I don't have any tools. I tried almost anything that I had in my mind like cardboard boxes and hammock and its just not working for me. Please help!! =] Thanks. I have a hammer and screwdriver... those r common tools I am actually talking about drills and saws... Yes I already have my ferret. Yes I already have my ferret. Yes I already have my ferret.
How To Make A Homeade Ferret Cage? Hi, What I am trying to do is find a custom built cage. My ferrets have this big 4 story cage but the things that they lay on.. arn't very big. and instad of buying something for like 400.00 that i might not like. Building a ferret cage, help with pricing? the dimensions are 36.5' x 2' x 2' I figured out how much the wood I'm using will cost roughly, I just can't seem to find a price for some kind of mesh wiring, I'm thinking something with 1cm x 1cm sized squares or something like that. Can I buy that at home depot? The wood I'm using is 2"x3" and I'll need about 5. Oh and for the mesh wire i need something that strong/thick enough that i can make a door with it. i actually decided that when i do the floors i'm gonna put down plywood then paint it whatever color i want then put a sheet of plexi glass on top of it.... i might put something on the plexi glass though so the ferrets won't slide...
How to make a ferret cage???????? Does anyone know how to build a ferret cage? I want a huge cage with large platforms... If I can't build one i will get a ferret nation 142. OR does anyone have cage plans??

How can I make a homemade ferret cage? (preferably large)? I'm going to be getting a few ferrets, probably 3. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a cage that is going to be too small. What would I need to build a large ferret cage with multiple levels? How am I going to build it? Where should I get the supplies? Thanks to all that reply!
How to build my very own ferret cage? Well I got a ferret from someone yesterday and she didn't come with a cage. Right now she runs around with my 2 cats who love her. However, I would like to have a cage for her for her litter box, food, water and for somewhere she can sleep. I can't afford to buy those $150-$250 cages. I would like to build one myself but I just don't know how to build one. Right now I have no money to go out and get the wiring and stuff, but is there a way I can make my very own cage with materials I have around the house? Thank you so much!
Should I make a homemade ferret hammock or buy one? You see I'm getting a ferret after I build the cage. I was wondering if there is really any difference in the store bought vs. The homemade. I am trying to save my money, but get them the best quality stuff I can, so I am home making a bunch of the stuff. Can you please leave a link or instructions on how to make ferret hammocks? And ferret toys too(: that would be great! Thanks! :D
Please help with these homemade ferret cage questions!? Instead of going out to buy a ferret cage, I've decided that I should just make one myself. But, I need help with some questions! Here's an explanation of how I'm hoping my cage could be like. Go to google images and look up Critter Nation. The first cage that shows up should be it. I want it to be 3 stories, litter pan at the bottom, stairs to each story, and the very same wired material used to build the cage (I don't know what it's called. 1. Should I use wood or the material used in the picture? 2. Where do you buy that type of wired material in the picture? 3. Can I have a list of materials and where to buy them to make a cage like that? Thank you!
Homemade ferret cage? Ok I'm building a huge ferret cage and you know how you can hang hammocks and other things for them in a store bought cage, well how would you hang stuff in a homemade cage? I was gonna use rat wire underneath the floors to hang stuff but I know rat wire wouldnt hold, any suggestions??
Homemade ferret cage vs store bought question(also ? about liter training)? 1st question: I have 4 ferrets. 2 are almost 2 years old. The other 2 are 3 months old. I want to build a cage for all 4 of them instead of using 2 smaller cages. The area I have is 6 feet wide. The cage can be anywhere from 3 fett to 6 feet deep. What will be the best type of wood and wire to use? 2nd question: How can I get them to use the litter box only for pooping? *0% of the time they do use the box but the other 20% they just go in the closet corner.I just put new tile and carpet in my home. I am scared to let them roam the house because I dont want the floor ruined so they have been confined to the office area. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

Help! Trying to build a cube cage ...? Those who have built cube cages for their cavies/buns/ferrets...how did you make it stand up if you used zip ties to secure the grids together? I didn't use the connectors because they kept popping apart, now I've got all my sides zip tied but when I try to stand them up to secure them into a square they fold in on themselves? This can't be THAT hard - I see them all over the net. How did you build one that is multi level and make it secure at the same time? Thanks!
How to build your own rabbit cage: has anyone done it? I would really love to have my own rabbit, either from a pet store or from a rescue or shelter. I was wondering if anyone out there who owns rabbits, guinea pigs, big hedgehogs or ferrets have ever built there own cage out of a wood / wire type thing... :) The reason I am asking is because it seems like a lot of 'medium' sized animal owners make their own indoor cages for their animals. I'm wondering because most of the cages out there seem very expensive, good-sized ones $100+. Anyone out there know a helpful website / book / personal ideas on what I could do to possibly build my own cage for maybe under $60 that would be able to hold a medium sized rabbit... thanks! :)
I want to get a Ferret.? I want a Ferret. I understand your supposed to get two but it wouldn't get lonely and would be out most of the day. I don't have any experience apart from reading up about them. I have a large cage for it to sleep in that i currently use for a Chinchilla. I have an outhouse area too so he would always have plenty of freedom. A few questions i have are... Male or Female. Neutered or Spayed Or Not Neutered or Spayed How much out of cage time a day Young or Older Do they need yearly injections I have 2 Breeder Lovebirds and 1 Chick, 1 Cockatiel, A Labradoodle Dog, 2 Gerbils, 3 Hamsters and 4 Chinchillas. The Lovebirds, Cockatiel, Hamsters and Gerbils are all Upstairs so they would be in no contact with the Ferret. The Chinchillas are in the Living room and the dog gets the roam of the downstairs. But as i said, i have an outhouse which i would keep the ferret cage in and there is lots of room in there for it to play in, it would be aloud inside when the dog is in the living room with the Chinchillas. So there would be no chance of the Ferret getting the Chinchillas or the dog getting the Ferret. Thanks, if you have anything else to say about ferrets then please tell me! I won't be getting it yet as i still have lots more research too do and we need to have a new Chinchilla cage built. Thanks! I would also not get it yet as i want the chick too grow up healthy first. I would adopt from a rescue centre and i would love too but my neice and nephew are only babies and i'm not sure if a ferret with problems would be ideal when they were around.
What sort of cage can I keep my rat in? A rabbit hutch? Fish tank? Massive ferret cage? I can't afford expensive cages so i've found two bird cages.. What do you think? http://www.cheapaschips.com.au/showproduct.asp?sk=BA7725 and http://www.cheapaschips.com.au/showproduct.asp?sk=BA049 The first one is small. I was planning on housing just one but thanks to Tessa i'm thinking about housing 2. My younger brother wants one anyway. Of a day they'll be pretty much free to roam. If I were to build a cage, how would I do it? Any sites with instructions etc? I may be able to ask for my rabbit hutch back but it's to big to be kept inside. But i'm worried that if it stays outside, an animal might get it.
chinchilla cage help? my chinchillas kicked their poop everywhere! i have to vacum twice a day. i have them in a large ferret nation cage. is there anyway i can make/build a cage skirt like some bird cages have? what should i make it out of? or any other help hints on how to keep their droppings in the cage! i tried litter training them but they poop too much for that and will only pee in the litter pan.
What size ferret cage? OK, so I am a new mommy to a bonded pair of 6 month old ferrets. I was curious what to do about a cage. They are out alot so do they have to have a huge 3 level cage? Just curious if its absolutely neccessary. Affording one is not the issue, I am living in a one bedroom apartment right now while I build my house and a cage that big just takes up alot of room. I am borrowing a little 2 story cage right now. I know there is lots of controversy on how ferrets should be raised, fed, etc. Any personal experience is welcome. I'm new to this and want to insure that my babies live a long healthy life. Also, I want some homemade toy ideas! ( Again, I can afford to buy toys...but I like to conserve as much as possible...especially if the ferret has fun and doesnt care how much you paid for the toy anyway) Also, I had a friend that let her ferret sleep in the bed almost every night. This seemed odd for a ferret...I would be nervous they would get up in the middle of the night and get into something they weren't supposed to. They are very curious by nature and tend to think everything is interesting.(even if its dangerous for them). Thanks :)
How to clean ferret poop from wood? I built a wooden ferret cage and haven't had a chance to seal the wood yet. Within a few days of putting my ferrets in the cage one of them got sick and had diarrhea, well he missed the litter pans a few times and now I need to know how I can clean the poo from the wood. It dried rather fast and I've been trying to soak it with wet paper towels but its really rock solid on there. As long as I can get the bulk off of the wood and sanitize the remainder rather well then I think it will be okay once I seal the wood. Any suggestions?
Making shelves for a ferret cage? I just bought a ferret nation cage (142 model) but it doesn't have the two shelves, three ramps, or the tray that goes on the second level. I emailed Midwest and I can get the extra parts I need but I'm not sure how much they all cost (they aren't open for a few more days, no one is at the phone). I think I found some things that would work as ramps, but is there a way I could make my own shelves? I just need the two shelves that attach on the side of the cage on each level. Right now my ferret is still very young and doesn't weight much, he's probably just one pound or so. Though he's a male so I expect him to get larger. I have guys in my family who are good at building things so does anyone have any ideas for building/attaching a shelf to the side of the cage?
Build myself a ferret Hutch?????? I run a ferret rescue and am running low on funds so wanted to make myself up a cage, for some of my more permanent fuzzies. I have 4 in a 2 tiered rabbit hutch but there isn't too much space. I want to build a new one but am not really sure how. Do you have any ideas? thanks Freyjaxxxxxxx
eek! rat cage dilemma? So me and my dad built our rat cage, it's quite big. Anyways, last night the door opened and fell off, this is the 3rd time it's happened... I'm getting worried that the cage is falling apart (since it's made out of wood). Is there any point in fixing it so the door doesn't fall off? (Which I'm not sure I know how we'll do it) or will I just buy a new cage? I'd love a ferret nation cage, but as far as I know we can't get them in Ireland, shame really. If we decided to make a new one do you think a wardorbe or a bookshelf would work? http://www.ikea.com/ie/en/catalog/products/00141769 I was thinking of this. The cage that we built is a year and 10 months old. So it lasted long enough.
How to persuade my mum to let me get a ferret? Hi. I am 15, and I already have one cat. I really want a ferret, and i actually built a huge cage/hutch in my back garden all on my own, my parents were really impressed because it is actually really secure and stable...Anyways I've tried asking my parents. My dad said ok as long as my mum says yes. When i ask her she just says 'NO' and if i ask why she says 'I SAID NO, AND NO MEANS NO!!' and she says she doesnt need a reason to say no lol. She also said that its sort of because I have too much stuff...and she lists things they've bought me recently (3 years lol) laptop, DS, nintendo wii, (a cat-after my old one passed away). But personally i dont feel spoilt. I dont get pocket money, my parents say its because they just buy me anything....And im not a snob at all!! I appreciate EVERYTHING that I have! I dont take things for granted...my parents didnt grow up with what i have. They didnt have much at all growing up...so i actually do know how well off i am. I have a saturday job at a shop, so I would be able to pay for the food litter etc weekly (I have £200 saved up for the actual ferrets and neutering) But money isnt actually a factor! She just wont give me a reason! She doesnt really like animals though....but she admits i take care of my cat well, and my hamster who passed away a couple of months ago
Ferret adding level to cage? How would i build an extra level for my cage? I was thinking a piece of wood and than and putting newspaper on it so he wouldn't be peeing directly on the wood, would that work? The cage is 3 feet tall by 2 feet long and like 1.8 feet wide. Would it work if i took a piece of wood, made it the size of the cage and add like little hooks or put nails in the side of the wood so it'll stay on the bars of the cage? I would also cut a big hole in the one part of the wood and add a ramp going up to it, would that work? Any suggestions, or websites would help. Thanks!
can someone explain to me how this person built this cage? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tifcvHJkhk i don't understand any of it. and i think it could cut down on the price of getting a ferret because i REALLY want one<3 but i only have 20 dollars and i'm getting a job soon so i can get more money for it(: i'm not going to cut a bunch of corners with prices, just for the cage; hopefully. but i wanted to know if it was easy to clean, and how much stuff i would need? like those cable ties, the square cubes, and the metal clips? thanks!
Whats the best cage for two ferrets? I am going to be adopting two ferrets from my local animal shelter in a few days and I was wandering whats the best cage for them. Is the marshall mansion good? How much do pet stores usually charge for it. Is there a better cage that has multiple levels, but doesn't cost over $200? Is there a site that shows you how to build your own?
Question about baby ferret? I had 3 ferrets and one is new, I have had him only 2 weeks, my other 2 are 2 and 3 years old. I have had all since they were babies but have never seen this. When I was cleaning the cage I removed the bedding and noticed he has been either eating or sucking on the blanket. I called the vet and they gave me a Tuesday appointment. It is a new vet because the one i have now just is not ferret knowledgeable, not enough for me to be comfortable and I have been through 4. I want to be sure he has no blockage of any kind. I have been watching him since I discovered this and have removed everything that might be dangerous including the bedding. I did some research and found that this can occur when they are taken from the mother too soon. So I have followed the advice and I am spending all the time I can, I even took the day off work so I did not have not leave him. He is eating and pooping fine, I have been checking so I am hoping he has not ingested anything but I am still getting it checked. My question is that with all he eats, and he eats quite a bit he seems to be losing weight. I thought maybe if I got him one of his litter mates it might make him feel better,so i drove back and got another one thinking one at his age might make him feel better. looking at her compared to him he is frailer and thinner than she is. I am just wondering if he could be stressed from missing his mother and that might be the weight cause. I don't want to wait until Tuesday because i know firsthand how quickly ferrets can decline in health. My instincts tell me not to wait and if I have to drive 4 hours to another vet so be it. Any advice on what could be causing this or are some ferrets built this way. He really feels allot bonier than his sister, I am so afraid even when I pick him up. He is playing and acting normal and a friend thinks that I am paranoid because I lost a ferret last year. I took her 3 times to the vet and had her AD and she passed in her sleep. It really crushed me, I know nothing lives forever but she was only 3. I don't want to make the same mistake by not listening to my instincts as I did last year. His diet consists of mostly marshall he seems to have imprinted this particular brand. I feed 3 different foods to my ferrets. Totally Ferret, Marshall, and 8 in One Ultimate. I also give them a soup daily that is just Marshall Ferret Blended with water and warmed. My ferrets love this like a treat. The only snacks my ferrets will eat are N-Bones and the baby has not eaten these yet. They are in one cage that is 12 feet L,8 feet W, and 4 Feet H, and then there is a secondary cage inside this one that is just kept open where the older ferrets sleep. The baby sleeps in a blanket, or did that I shaped into a cub-by type hole but I have removed that. He seems so lost now. I have tried everything but the only material he seems not to do this with is jean material.I have one bed left and it is in a nylon type plaything I got for the cage and he is sleeping in it now. I do take my ferrets out when i am home and they go back in the big cage when I go to sleep. I try to have them out as much as possible, probably about 6 hours a day. If anyone has any ideas please let me know so i can bring it to the Dr's attention. Thanks
Ferret litter box tips. ? I have 2 fuzz butts. They free roam the entire house (a small one) most of the day, and are locked in the bedroom for a few hours. I'll admit it, when they were young I was a little lazy on the box training, and pretty much let them poop wherever and just spot cleaned after them. But its really starting to ruin the carpet. They are both over a year old now, almost 2. Any tips on how to get them litter trained as suck a late age. I have a cage, a large custom built one. And the house is completely ferret proofed. I dont mind keeping them confined to a cage for a while, but I'd like to get them back free roaming at some point. And please dont just give me answers I can find on google, I'd like tips from experience.

Stupid question about a break up and pets...? I feel stupid asking this question but I don't know how to find an answer any other way. Basically the story goes that I was with this girl for 2 1/2 years when we decided to get a pet together. Through one of her teachers she got us a ferret, it wasn't a "legal" adoption process or anything, it was just a person giving a pet to another person. Then a couple months later we got another ferret, it was $150 from a pet store and we each paid $75 toward getting her. Shortly after our 3 year anniversary I found out she was cheating on me and ended it with her. It has been 4 months since then now and she is still trying to control me by using the pets as leverage saying that the only reason I have them is because she got them and shared them with me. She demands to be able to see them and is really acting like they are human children and that she has legal rights. Basically the only money she has contributed to them is the $75 toward half of the purchase price on the second ferret. I on the otherhand have spent my $75, $200 in material to build a cage for them, $250 in vet bills so far, approx. $60 in toys/hammocks/litter/etc. and approx. $125 in food. She had done nothing to care for them since we broke up and only talks about them when she is using them to control me by threatening to take them away from me. I have been taking care of them and playing with them and to me they are like my kids. Does she really have any legal rights to see them or even potentially take them away from me? I want to tell her that she needs to just disappear and isn't welcome to visit but I'm afraid she might be able to take them from me. I love my little furry kids =(

I have 2 ferrets, I had them in a 2 level cage and they used their litter boxes with no problem now I have built them a big 4 level cage and now they are pooping everywhere I have put 2 litter boxesin the bottem level, food or bedding all the corners and they still poop in every corner on every level, I am soo sooo mad that they are doing this...HOW can I get them to use the litter in a bigger cage, my female digs in it even if there is poop in it... My female is also very wild does not like to be held or cuddled at all she is 6 months old and I have had her for 2 weeks, is there anyway to get her to be more tame? Funny yet gross she actually was sleeping in her dirty litter and I had to bath and cut the poop out of her hair...soo soo gross thanks -frusterated ferret mommy!!!!
How to make a homemade rat cage? I am planning on getting a third rat and my two rats already have a limited amount of space. I can't get a cage from stores because they are way too expensive for me. I knew it would be much cheaper to make my own with the help of my dad. Pretty much, I want a wire cage with a pull out bottom for easy cleaning that can fit lots of toys. something similar to this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rat-Ferret-Condo-Cage-Marshall-/120786065277?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1f69177d I was going to bid for it, but I realized that it was 1" spacing and it would be risky for rats. what materials would I need to build this, where I can get it, how much it costs, and how to make it. any other links related to this would be helpful. thanks!
I need Ferret help!!? So im getting a new ferret and the cage is going to look somewhat like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tifcvHJkhk Yes im building it, and im only getting one ferret btw. So, since im only getting one, how many hours of the day should i play with him? i have to go to school from 7 to 2 and my mom works 9 to 5. So he'd only be alone for a little bit. Would this type of cage entertain him for about 5 hours? Would he be okay? And any ferret tips for getting a new one would be great:)
My Ferret? Thanks for Answering!? I'm getting a ferret in 2-4 months and I have a few questions. 1.Would you recommend a male or female and why? 2.What are some medical conditions and how to prevent them? 3.What should I have in it's cage? 4.How big should it's cage be?(I'm building mine) Any other tips would be greatly welcomed! Also maybe some names for the ferret. Thanks in advance!!
Cage for a chinchilla? I currently have a ferret nation 141 cage for my chinchilla. I did all kinds of research on chinchillas prior to adopting one. One thing that i did not find in my research was how much they poop! i need a cage that has a drop pan which the ferret nation does not. I am considering either the skyscraper or high rise from http://www.martinscages.com/products/cages/chinchilla/, opinion suggestions? I don't really think the wire bottoms are going to be a problem, i will gladly supply my chinchilla with plenty of spots where he can find relief from the cage, i also plan to order the cage (either one) with out the small shelves, the middle floor i will keep. I will build my own wooden shelves as i have done with my ferret nation. Suggestions on which to get or on the wire bottoms of the cage or anything? Please give advice, or recommend another cage with a drop pan (NO PLASTIC!!!). Thanks!
Ferret level and ramps? How would i build an extra level for my cage? I was thinking a piece of wood and than glueing carpet on the wood, would that work? The cage is 3 feet tall by 2 feet long and like 1.8 feet wide. Would it work if i took a piece of wood, carpeted it, made it the size of the cage and add like little hooks or put nails in the side so it'll stay on the bars of the cage? I would also cut a big hole in the one part of the wood and add a ramp going up to it, would that work? Any suggestions, or websites would help. Thanks! This is sortof what the cage looks like, it has a door on the top and a door in the front, it looks like that but mine has a white bottom, and my bottom is a little bit taller. http://www.redmap.co.uk/ferretsabout/acatalog/furetplus.jpg To Me-Mosa: I thought of that, for cleaning i could just vaccum it (since it'll be carpet), an it shouldn't warp if it doesn't get soaked.
Green Iguana questions? I have just received an iguana, it was not taken care of before thats why I have it. Its about 2 and a half feet long with its tail. And they had it in an aquarium that is about 25gallons at most. I have it in a bigger space right now. but this weekend I am buying some supplies so I can built it its own costume cage. I have read about the care they need and all on the internet, But the questions I have if anyone knows are: 1. What is the best wire to use for a Iguana/reptile cage when building one. 2. Is there any way to tell what sex it is. 3. It is very aggressive. How would I tame it without it biting or whipping me with its tail( i t loves to try to get you with the tail. 4. I thought they ate like crickets and other types of small insects, but I was reading that this is bad for them, is this true? And any other advice is welcome. I have never owned one previously, but had been around them when I was younger. I have a lot of experience with other animals though. I've previously owned birds and geckos. But right now I have 3 dogs, 2 cats 1 ferret, and an Iguana now. Thanks oh another question is: I was reading that in the wild they eat other iguanas poop for the nutrients whats that about
My old ferret is not responding well to the new addition. Got any ideas? About a month ago I adopted a 3-year-old female, descented, spayed ferret from one of my friends. They'd had her since she was a baby (a petstore/petco ferret) and has been an "only child" since they took her home about 2.5 years ago. I like to make sure that my animals are always entertained even when I can't be there, so I have really been wanting a companion. Today, after a meet-and-greet that went pretty well (no fights, mild interaction), I adopted a 1.5yr old neutered male. On the ride home I was forced to cage the male with my girl and she hated it with every ounce of her being (I know this was a HORRIBLE decision, but it seemed to be the only choice at the time). Once home, I let the new boy smell around the house while I built him a temp home (my ferret mansion arrives in the mail tomorrow morning) and both ferrets seemed really at peace and the boy, during free roam, was a jumping, dooking, happy guy, so an hour later I let em both out since they did pretty good in open space at the meet-n-greet. Wrong. My girl FLIPPED. She started the same almost territorial hissing and screaming (?), hid under the couch, and bit my girlfriend who happened to walk by, drawing blood (an absolute FIRST for her). My questions: Can my ferret be territorial over my entire house (as she gets thrice daily free roam to about 5+ hours)? If so, do you think she will be territorial over the new cage coming tomorrow? And lastly, I have read a lot of stuff on the interweb, but I wanted to know if anyone had personal answers as to how to proceed to make these two love each other--or how to tell if they aren't ever going to. Thanks in advance and sorry for the novel...
my mom wants to get rid of my hamster!!!!!!? my moms friend owns 12 rats (all female) and 5 syrian hamsters.. she has a four ferret cages, each houses three of the rats and she has a costum built 4' by 4' cage for each of her syrians, she cleans each cage twice a week and feeds/waters them twice a day.. she works from home so she lets the rats out all day, except for a couple hours when she lets the hamsters out of the cage. she takes care of her pets very well my mom said. i have a syrain hamster that i some times forget to feed or give water to and i only clean the cage once a month or so cause i have other better things to do but i do love my hamster! now my mom wants me to give my hammy to this lady but i dont want to... if anything i would want to give my hammy to my friend so i can see it but my mom says no she is giving it to her friend!!! how do i convince her to let me give my hamster to my friend?! im 12 btw and my friend is 11 or how do i convince her to let me keep my hamster!?
Marshall Farms ferret seems stoned?!? I don't know any better way to put it! I've had my little girl Luna since October and I believe she was born mid-July so she's pretty young still. I know she is a Marshall ferret because of the documents that came with her and the tattoo on her ear. I am told that Marshall breed's their ferrets to be very docile and chilled out so would that be why my Luna simply sits and stares off into space? The only time she does anything other than stare and eat is when she is out of the cage having playtime in the house with her big brother Izzie. He's nearly 3 years old and I'm not sure where he is from, he has no tattoo's and no documentation with him. I adopted him from a guy who had to go into drug re-hab! Izzie is very active when he is awake, he will run around the cage and try to play with Luna and she will just sit and stare while he jumps all over her. He definitely feels the need to display his dominance regularly.. he is always chewing on her neck until she makes little whimpering noises and sometimes drags her under furniture by the neck but she never tries to fight back. At first I tried to stop it but then I read that it's best just to let them go at it.. no blood, no poo, no foul. It just makes me feel bad like she is depressed and doesn't enjoy her life, the only time she acts happy is when she is by herself running around the house and every once in a while she will play with Izzie outside the cage. Their cage shouldn't be an issue.. I custom built it 6'x3'x1.5' it has 5 levels with 2 hammocks, 2 igloos, 2 litter pans and even 2 food bowls and water bottles! Oh those spoiled ferrets don't know how good they have it =D Oh and to add to things Izzie loves being held and getting his back scratched, he will lick your face all day long! Luna hates being held and has never licked me. So is it most likely just the fact that she is a Marshall ferret and was bred to be calm and in-active? Or am I a horrible ferret parent ='( Just to make it clear since I didn't really spell it out, the two have been living in the same cage for 4 months now so it's not new roommate stress, this has been their daily lives for quite a while now. There was a scary first week when Luna came to live in the cage where Izzie had already established his home. Izzie became very stressed and got sick, he had to make an emergency trip to the vet and get medicine which he didn't like one bit!
GETTING A FERRET, NEED HELP :) (Requires a bit of reading)? Okay so it is almost my 16th birthday and I have asked my dad for a ferret. Now he has said he will think about it but I have informed him of some things that I'm hoping you can clarify for me. If you don't know anything really then feel free to leave name reccomendations (I'm thinking it will be a male (i want it to be) so yeah). Okay so I've said that Ferrets can be litter boxed trained. I'm sure this is true as I have read up on how to train them. It seems fairly simple. I told him that I will keep it clean (he's afraid of it stinking REALLY BAD and I'm sure there's a way to keep it from smelling horrible ALL the time. I was thinking to bathe it weekly? or every other week, I don't want to dry out his skin, ya know). I know that they must be in a ferret/baby/puppy proofed type of area so they don't get into trouble, I'm thinking it's playtime will be in my room so I will place rolled towels under my doors and make sure the area behind my bed is closed off (My bed has no underside to it.) and I will make sure to have small objects picked up and a litter box placed in a corner or convenient area of the room. I will walk it every day after I walk my dog (I don't want to let my dog around it unless when I introduce him they get along okay, but my dog is iffy so I will be VERY cautious). Now here's one of my concerns: I will be visiting my mom, who lives a state away, quite often on breaks and during summer so I'm thinking a small dog travel crate (or cat carrier) will work fine while travelling? and if I am only staying a maximum of a month (minimum of a few days to a week) I was THINKING that *maybe* I could just get a small cage to bring with because it will be hard to lug around a large cage. And keep it in a small cage while I'm there, frequent walks and supervised play-time to get his energy out. I will even take him when we go for short car rides or what-not if I have to, until I earn enough money to buy a whole other cage to keep down there. Good idea? Now I have read they can eat kitten food, would adult cat food work good, too? What do you reccomend? Wet dog food, wet cat food, wet kitten food, or ferret food? Or a specialized diet of real meat and veggies from the kitchen? How much would he eat when he's an adult (like 2 years old)? Also how do you clip their nails? Do they have special nail clippers for ferrets or do I use small dog/cat clippers or human nail clippers? O.o And I read that you should clean their ears out with a q-tip, but I was thinking since it's not even a good thing to clean your own ears out with a q-tip (you should use a wet cloth and wipe the edges of where the wax build up is) should I just use a small cloth instead? I know q-tips can lead to infections and get cotten stuck inside and I wouldn't want that happening. I want a happy healthy little ferret (: Okay so just let me know everything you have to offer advice on and I would *Greatly Appreciate* it! THANK YOU SO MUCH! :D You guys are fantastic!
Getting a Pet Ferret? Care, Names, Information? (just verifying and need advice, first timer)? Okay so it is almost my 16th birthday and I have asked my dad for a ferret. I know they aren't rodents. But they're often placed in that same category because they are small and it's the closest thing they had in the Yahoo Answers categories, so sorry about that. Also I know they are sociable, but my father will not allow me to have two. I'm sure I can find some people who also have ferrets and get them together for like a play date or something. One of my old friends had a single ferret and he was really nice and seemed perfectly fine. Although my friend was dumb and brought him to an unproofed house and the ferret crawled into a heating vent (they were not paying attention) and died. Don't worry, my ferret will be perfectly supervised at all times and be socialized. Thank you for the food information, I was really confused on that because so many websites had varying answers to that; some said that kitten food was the best and some said that dog food worked good while other sites said that using ferret food was the best option. Also I have like two months t
I was ripped off buying a bird cage? I've never been ripped off. This is how it feels, huh? I'm pissed! I trusted this lady and she sold me this cage: (the single that goes NEW for $150) http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3402796&utm_source=googleproduct&utm_campaign=3402796&utm_medium=cse&mr:trackingCode=59D62C64-C881-DE11-B712-001422107090&mr:referralID=NA Will that work with a bird? It looks beautiful. I was distracted while she was here with the dogs - she brought hers and it was playing with mine. There is no pull out tray, no feeder doors. She included some toys and perches and I paid for her gas (about an hour drive!) to deliver. Total: $250. I'm a dumb a$$. =( I just don't know what it's made out of to know if it's safe for the bird. Stupid stupid stupid! I know calling her back would get me no where. I feel like I should just to say, throw more in with this, but like she's gonna drive again after she has her $$$$$$$$$$$. Ugh. Trying to let it go and see how to fix it up to work. My boyfriend is going to build a tray (maybe using a storage container lid) if it's a safe cage. I trusted her... sounded nice, rescued birds, has 3 kids, a few dogs, working family... can't trust anyone anymore. She half peeled off the "ferret nation" sticker. SOMEONE TELL ME I DIDN'T WASTE MY MONEY COMPLETELY! >.<
Cages and toys for ferrets---HELP? Well, I got a ferret 2 days ago from a friend and I already need help. lol. Anyways, I couldn't afford to go out and buy one of thos $200 cages so I am building one out of cooling racks (brand new of course). Anyways, I am trying to determine how big it should be and what to put in it. Also, what kind of toys could I make/buy for her to entertain herself? Any and all answers will be accepted. Thank you so much!
which place would be better for my newborn to stay right after birth? i am due to have my baby girl within the next week and am wondering which of these two options would be better for her in her first few days of life. the first is for me to bring her back to my parents' house. the second is to bring her to my boyfriend's apartment. but both of these choices have things that make them not good choices. 1. parents' house - my little (5-year-old) brother has recently been getting very sick with the flu and other childhood illnesses and i really would not want my newborn to get sick especially since i've heard that infants in some cases can die from the flu. - i would most likely have to keep the child in my room upstairs which at times can get quite hot (even though the house has central air) and the temperature in my room reaches about the mid-eighties even at night and i don't think it would be good for an infant to be in conditions that hot. - my parents are really not the best people in the world to be around. my father constantly yells and flips out and puts me down and tells me i'm worthless and i often end up crying (because of him) and i don't think that stressful of an environment would be good for the baby to be around. 2. boyfriend's (father of the baby's) apartment - it's on the third floor of an apartment building in the middle of the city of coatesville (not really a good location) and i'm not sure that being in the middle of the city is the best place for an infant to be (the apartment has gotten broken into before by 9 guys who were carrying knives). - my boyfriend lives with his older brother and now his brother's girlfriend and their cousin are there too and they all smoke (weed and cigarettes) and i know for sure that is not a good thing to have around a baby although they smoke on the other side of the apartment from where the baby would be so very little smoke if any at all would ever reach the baby but the smoke is a big worry of mine. - there's a cat and two ferrets there the cat just wanders everywhere in the apartment (it's my boyfriend's brother's girlfriend's cat) and it hasn't been there long and i don't really know if any harm could come to the baby from the cat the ferrets are in a cage so i'm not too worried about them other than the smell that always comes from the cage (even a few minutes after it gets cleaned and they get bathed) but what's worrying me is what if the baby is allergic to the cat i am afraid i wouldn't even be able to tell. so those are the main problems with the two places i can go please tell me which sounds like the lesser of the two evils to bring a child into cause i really am not sure. and yes i have to choose one of the two i am only seventeen and still have a year of high school left and i don't plan on dropping out so i can't really get my own place just yet. and my boyfriend is only turning seventeen in a few days so he is unable to get his own place yet at least until he gets his license next month. so please tell me which place would be better i am really unsure how to decide. thank you all in advance for any input i get.
How many Ferrets is to many? Basically My question is how many ferrets is to many? I read in 'Ferrets For Dummies' that no more than a average litter (8) or do you think I could smuggle a few more in the 'pack'? if I had to I could set up two different 'packs' in separate cages. I don't have quite that many ferrets but I plan on building up a bigger 'gang' over time. I can care for them financially and I can give them care and attention, so on those grounds I can have loads, but how many would be to many that the ferrets would be unhappy or uncomfortable? The question isn't how many Ferrets can comfortable fit into the cages but how many ferrets can co-inhabitate without it becoming distressful to them?
Do ferrets make good pets? I have wanted a ferret for years. I fell in love with them when I was about 10. My mom would never let me get one but she would let me visit them at the petstore just to take them out and play with them. LOL (Cruel, I know...because I wanted one so bad). Anyway, I'm 22 now, about to graduate college, get married, build a house etc. I am strongly considering getting a pair in a year or so. BUT, I want to make sure I do enough research. I understand they are very demanding...alot of people I see only take them out for a few hours for playtime, but I'm going to be one of those people that wants my ferret out everytime I am home. I have been like that with all of my animals. They don't stay caged. (Alot of people tell me I want to live in a jungle.) I hear they stink, but every ferret I have been around just has a certain scent to it but doesn't stink to me. Are they super hard to litter train or do they have many accidents? I have done alot of reading, I just want more answers from peoploe with actual experience. How do you like having a ferret? What are some things I should know? Also, I'm not planning on having children anytime soon, but in the event that I do would they be a threat to my child? How difficult would it be to have an infant and ferrets in the same house? ADD: My fiance doesn't know much about ferrets at all. He loves dogs, BUT, I think he would really enjoy a ferret. I hear they are so much fun! GREAT answer Ann. Very descriptive. JUST what I was looking for :) I am excited. I can't wait to finally own one. I will still have to wait a few months. I just got offered a full time job once I graduate college in May. So, I'm excited to start a new chapter in my life and start preparing for such a fun pet!

What is a good ferret cage for my two fuzzies? I have two ferrets, who are now 5 and 6 years old. Right now they're living in a fairly large Super Pets Deluxe Care Home. It's very well made and I havn't had any problems with the cage. The only issue is that it's beginning to seem a bit crowded for my weasels, so I've been looking for a larger cage with equal sturdiness, safety, and reliability. The Ferret Nation cage has caught my attention and I've read so many great reviews about it. The only things holding me back are the wire ramps and floor. My older ferret has a very petite build and I'm worried that her feet will get caught in the bars of the ramps and she'll injure herself. Also, I'm worried that the wire floor will hurt their feet and create messes. My ferrets are litter trained, but they tend to go outside the box too. I think the wire floor will be very messy for that reason. Right now I have Carefresh Bedding in the bottom of their cage so it is not an issue. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know :)
Building a Ferret cage, safety? Building it out of wood and mesh wire, I have a couple things i'm concerned about though, 1. are ferrets allergic to certain types of wood? 2. Can I paint the wood/mesh? 3. Should i coat the wood with something to make it waterproof(in case the urinate on it)? thank you weezilmom, when u mentioned the plastic that cages come with i thought of a better idea than wood, rather than have a plain wood floor i'm going to use a sheet of plywood and then cut a piece of plexi glass to fit nice and square over top of it then screw it down, then i can paint the wood whatever color and don't have to worry about the ferrets ingesting paint chips or getting splinters. and if i get mesh wire i'm gonna try to find something that is a little bit thicker. instead of thin wire. oh, plexi glass will make clean up nice and easy too
Ferret Cage? I am in the process of building my ferrets a cage. I wanted to see if anyone knows of any sites that show plans.. I want a huge cage for them to play in while I am not at home. They love to fun around and stuff.. They have the bottom of the cage and thats basically it. I want a huge one... any ideas? I have 2 and maybe wanna add 2 more... Im not sure though..... The ones they sell on ferret sites arn't big enough.. The floors in the middle arn't wide enough for them in my opinion. I think I am just gonna have to eye it... I just want them to have room to play....
Are there any plans out there for a ferret cage you can make? I have two smaller full-grown males that need more room than what I have them in now. I'm a college student and can't afford a commercial cage. I have only a little bit of experience with building stuff, so the simpler the better. Supplies must be under 75 dollars. Thanks!
i need fun/funky design ideas for a homemade ferret cage =D? my ferret, bagel, is the babe of my life =) so me and mum (the DIY expert lol) are going to build a cage for her, even though she only ever goes into her cage on a night if she isnt in my bed lol. we're gonna make a big one, around 3 stories high, we know what sorta materials would be appropriate and to make it escape proof and all of that but what i need is just photos of other homemade cages, fun/clever design ideas, websites n stuff =) it will be in the house so it needs to look nice too =D cheers xxx

Where can I buy a large, multi-level cage built for rats? I've checked my local pet stores (Petco & Petsmart). All the rat cages they have are too small for my 3 rats. All the large, multi-level cages are built for ferrets or chinchillas, with 1" spacing between the wires. My rats are small enough to squeeze out of them, because I've tried to use these cages already. Where can I buy a large, multi-level rat cage?
Ferret Cage And Info? Hi, I am thinking about purchasing a ferret and have read a lot of stuff about them. We have a barely used dog cage that isn't extremely huge, but big enough I think for a ferret who gets out alot. Is it okay to use? The spaces in between the metal bar things aren't big enough for a ferret to get through. It looks like this cage, only a bit smaller and the spaces between mesh/bars aren't as wide. http://www.dog.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=110426+001&srccode=DNEXTAG Is that kind of cage okay? We have cats and can't let a ferret run free the whole day while we're gone. Otherwise we would. Is bedding necessary? We'll provide a pillow case and a blanket in the cage, some hiding places, and build some different levels, is that enough? Because I know some people just let their ferrets around the house, and the ferrets don't have or need any shredded bedding you can buy at a pet store. What do you think? Are pillow cases and a blanket okay? Thanks!!
I need to find a good ferret cage for my 2 female rats? ? I am now currently using this cage, but it is extremely hard to clean. It always smells like urine even after i scrub it down with dish soap and water. The urine builds up in the wire and its impossible to clean. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3057119 The cage doesn't have to be a ferret cage, just something that is easier to clean and wouldn't cause urine build up as much. I put about 3 hours into cleaning the cage every week because of this. Please offer an suggestions on cages. Thanks.
Ferret shaking cage trying to get out!? My ferret shakes her cage when she wants out I have built her another and she does the same thing. She drives me nuts! How can I get her to stop? I have tried ignoring her but it's not working & I refuse to let her out when she does. She is let out for most of the day, full run of the house.

Anybody got any plans for a ferret hutch? I want to build a new cage/hutch for my ferret, without buying one, (not because I'm hard up or anything, it's solely so I can have the satisfaction of knowing it's unique and I've made it myself). I was wondering if anybody had any plans I could use as rough guidelines or anything, to build a wooden hutch for one male ferret? Which contains an area of shade, toilet, food/water, rest and run (for the odd occassion that he isn't running around the house =D) Thank you so much in anticipation, Steve x
making my own cage for a...? im either getting a ferret chinchilla or rabbit. and im gonna build my own cage beacuse its cheaper and funner and i like doing projects. heres a website that i saw with one but i wanted some other ones http://holisticferret.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=cage&action=display&thread=1273 thats the cage that i like alot but id make it a little bit smaller and i wanted to know if they used nails to hold everything in place or wood glue or a staple gun? and if you can find website with homebuilt cages for a ferret chinchilla or rabbit that would be very helpful thankyou
what can i do about the ferret smell? i got two ferrets and i have given them a bath i clean their cage however i dont remove the waste just yet but i move it to the litter box (there not trained yet and i'm trying and no i dont let it built up but i do leave some in hope that they get the idea) but what can i do about the smell? my parents are going crazy and nothing seems to help yeah they smell good after the shower but the room doesn't so help
where can I get a good chinchilla cage? I have found a cage up in Pets at Home near were I live, it for chipmunks but can also be used for chinchillas, it is being sold for £79.99. My brother thinks I could get a cage cheaper online. I am looking for a cage with a slide out cage base so that I don’t have to take the cage apart in order to change the floor coverings, wire cage base, build-in hay rack and cheap. I found these: http://www.ukpetsupplies.com/Details.aspx?CatId=1315&ParentId=768&ProdId=2966 http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/pages-main/category-159_259_353/rabbits-guinea-pigs-ferrets-chinchillas-rats-etc-cages-and-accessories-for-ferrets-chinchillas-rats-etc-chinchilla-cages.html?zenid=n058lb408b161mrrccid72lhr3
FUNNY FERRET STORY MUST SEE!!!!!!? well the other day 1 of my ferets out of 3m, dixie, a baby ferrer who i picked up 1 week ago came across a dilema in the cage. you see every now and again i set up a slide in my ferrets cage that i made, nippy and dash are older and have mastered it but dixie cant get it. it is a plastic slide that is removed at the end of the day so he only has so long to get up. now today i took pitty on him and put him up at the lvl where the slide starts thinking if i can get him to slide down he might be able to get back up. BUT, when he did slide down (it was built by me so it goes from the top of the 5 foot cage to the very bottom) it he isntantly decided he didnt want to annymore and managed to turn around. but cudnt get back up!!! so he was left sprinting up the slide but moving backwards!!! it was the funnyest thing i have ever seen and wish i cudda got in on camerara.. after that he hissed at it and moved away as if to say 'you win this round' HAHAHAHAHA KAREN b i put him on the level of the slide not put him on the slide. he went on it himself.
Is this a good rat cage {link}? http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z82/saphire993/CageConstructionFrontView.jpg I've built this type of cage for a injured ferret, and thought it'd make a good rat cage. two levels and one level underneath for bedding food treats vitimins underneath. On top story you have food bowl with the water bottle on screen/ wire door. then you have a part of the shelf cut out with a carpet scratcher (meant for cat) that the ferret LOVED. Then the bottom level has a igloo and running wheel. A nibble treat/gnaw is on upper level. It is 32 in tall and 12 in wide. SHE will be in there while I'm at school and while asleep. I have a run about ball and a lap for other times. Does it look good. It has a wire door with hinges (made sure it wouldn't hurt the tail. The wire won't let her escape either. its bigger than it looks and my paint skills stink... srry I own a rat already. He is old, born Dec. 30th, 2003. His birthday is soon. He's neutered, so no worries. We didn't neuter him, we got him from a shelter. He's really sweet. Rambo is his name. He has already outlived the average rat, so he gets a lot attention. I wake up at 4:30. Say hello and pet him. I pick him up and place him on floor. He follows me everywhere. I go take a shower (I place him on the toilet lid and he waits) then we go get ready. While I'm doing my hair he sits in the sink on a towel. Then we play ball. He plays with a kitty ball that is squishy. He loves fetch. Then he goes and eats. We play, then cuddle while I check email. Then he goes to sleep in his cage. When I get home at 4 I take him out and he sits on my lap during homework or on my book. Then we play and I check email. We both eat dinner, then we play and he naps while I do whatever online. Then he goes to bed. That's our schedule. Our entire house is rat proof. all electric cords are up and covered.
is this big enough for two ferrets? i'm going to build a cage for my ferrets, it will be 1.2 metres wide 0.6 metre deep and will have two levels plus lots of hanging toys ropes, bridges etc is it big enough for two ferrets to speend most of their time in?
Strange question: Closet maid closet shelving!? May seem OT but its realy NOT. i want to build a cage for my ratty girls, the cubes holes are too large, i made a ferret cage form the closet shelving at one point and think it would work for the ratties...the biggest problem... bar spacing. does anyone know the actual spacing between the bars of the closet shelving? i need something 1/2" for the girlies. i thought most likely 1 inch *grumbles* i want to avoid wrapping in hardware cloth as its such a pain in the butt! (not to mention the amount of band-aids id go through lol! the galvinization for the closet shelving is actually a poweder coating (just like on the puperpet cages) NOT plastic coats so it is safe. it actually works real well and is easy...IF you can find the right bar spacing... thanks. oh and i dont use the rubbermaid bins or tanks for anything over 3 weeks old due to the lack of ventelation and amonia build up, they work great as quarentine/maternity wards or transport cages but for anything longer not safe.
Is my ferret happy? I built him his own cage, 20' deep, 33' tall and 28' long. it has 2 floors, and 2 hammocks connect with one another, one he lays in when its a little warmer, and i can see him, and another PRIVATE one where i cannot see him. fresh food and water every day (change water twice a day, refilling it) and he can climb around the cage, not just walking up. Outside the cage he has my whole room to explore, there are toys (a can he likes to roll and chase) and some computer wires that dangle to jump up after (not dangerous) i give him a fair amount of treats, never to much, and i make him try to do a trick for it. And then theres me, i chase him, he chases me, i make him get into that war dance or happy dance, and he chases me and then plops on the floor waits for me to go by and chases me again, and i made him a 'dig box' with uncooked rice so he can dig and get that out of his system, and berries himself in the box and pops out running. So is that enough? is he a happy ferret?
is another ferret a good idea or not? i have a ferret who is on his way to recovery from a bad bad intestinal infection. He is building up his strenght and is putting on weight. I take him out of his cage to play but he doesnt want his toys or anything (all he wants is to eat his treats lol) would another ferret in the house motivate hime to play and stuff again or will it upset him? Im doing it for his health and happiness and i love ferrets so id ge another in an instant!! Thankss
What is the difference in rabbits? I am looking for a small rabbit and i am wondering what types that is the best we are going to keep it outside as we have a dog in the house and we are fixing to go start to build a three storry hutch we already had the cage from my ferret will they like a three story one and but i am more interested in what types they are out there
Im thinking of getting a ferret need to know the ups and downs? Just wondering, they smell i know that is there a way to minimize or remove the smell, i know something of a descenting and desexing thing you can do, and i know not to wash them more than once or twice a year. but yeh any tips of that and i want to build it my own cage/hutch for indoors, and will build it out of wood on the sides and back and plexi glass/plastic on the front so i can see him/her and need to know if they will scratch through wood?... any info would be nice most internet sites just tell you issues with them and not whether there are solutions to them... is a wire walled cage, with plastice bottom ok. i wnat to customise it, and yeh it will be 2 or 3 storiesa bout 1 meter by 600cm most likely, and in my room, and yeh i will clean it alot, so bedding is on mid floor, food on bottom, toys/other shit on top with water on the bed and food floor, where is best to have the toilet?
Which cage is better? (links)? I currently am using the Super Pet Multi-Floor Ferret Home (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753322) for my two pet female rats. I've had it for about a year now, however I'm starting to realize the bad qualities of it...such as sinking shelves, gunk build-up on the wire bars (in which I clean every week) and very hard to clean shelves. My rats aren't potty-trained, so they are very messy and usually pee on their shelves (I spot-clean everyday)...so I need something I guess more...mess-proof? These little pools tend to sink into the shelves before I can wipe them up, which is a big problem with the smell factor. So, I don't know if any of you out there has ever had this cage: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751768&utm_source=cse&utm_campaign=2751768&utm_medium=pricegrabber&mr:referralID=5ea19771-ea98-11dd-9f5b-000423c27407#prodTab1 The Clean Living Medium 6-Level Cage. It is only featured on the web, so it may not be all that popular, but if you have had this cage, could you tell me the advantages or disadvantages of this cage? I know it is smaller than the cage I have now, but my rats have quite a bit of extra room in their cage now, so it wouldn't be much of a difference anyway. Thanks a lot for any advice or tips! :) Thanks....but did you look at the PRICE? Haha I'm not paying that much for a cage, thanks for the link though :)
Converting an aviary/shed into ferret enclosure DIY? I am looking at getting either a garden shed or an aviary to convert it into an outdoor enclosure for my ferrets. I want to add shelves/levels (like hutches) on the back wall so i can walk in and open the doors on the levels and clean the cages out. Would it be better to build the levels attached to the aviary or freestanding? What would be the best material to use? I would need something that is strong, and prefer something lightweight. Ive added a link for a photo of a pic i drew (not a good drawing, lol) [IMG]http://i536.photobucket.com/album... NB- i am not a carpenter, so links with directions/pics would be handy http://i536.photobucket.com/albums/ff326/marzncody/100_0198.jpg
Rabbit Help!!!!!? I have a young lionhead rabbit. I was told the sex was a female but the person was not 100% sure. I refer to it as a "he" (strange I know if it is a female) anyways, he was a great rabbit for the first few months, I could cuddle him and let him roam and do as I pleased. He has recently outgrew his cage so I got him a new cage. It's actually a ferret cage. It has several stories. My boyfriend and I built ladders and attached baskets to climb into. He enjoys it very much and is constantly hopping up and down and all aroung. But lately he has gotten very teritorial. When I reach in to do anything(pick him up, pet, handfeed, change his litter etc.) he willl make grunting noises, almost wheezing like + will sneeze + lunges at me. I can tell he is very upset. I know that you shouldn't put your hands in their cage but if I don't he'll never come out on his own and he wont be able to eat. I'm afraid if this continues he will become fully aggressive and bite me. He is a great rabbit-PLS HELP!
Chinchilla or Guinea Pig? I'm planning on getting a small pet after the holidays are over, and I've narrowed it down to either a Chinchilla or a Guinea Pig. I just want some opinions on these two animals. Which is more fun as a pet? Which is cleaner? For the Chinchilla, I know I'd get the ferret nation cage. But for a guinea pig, what cage should I get? I did like this cage: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753350 It's 46.5"L x 24"W x 24"H. Is that large enough for a pig? Or do you have to go with building a C&C cage? (I don't mind, of course. If a C&C cage is needed, I'll definitely make one.) So, yes. I'd like opinions. Oh! And if you could list the pro's and con's of each animal, that would be very much appreciated. lol! *sigh* It's such a big decision. XD Yay! I've been waiting for the Critter Nation to come out for ever! Thanks for that! ;)
my ferrets trying to get out i have two girl ferret they kept biting on there cage to get out o i brought a playpen adn built it up around there cage and i leave there cage door open so they can come in and out but they are always trying to get out of the playpen was wondering on any tips what to do and why thanks i still get them out on play times and they play down stiars just when they in there cage and soon they awake they try to get out liek there number 1 goal
Rat Cages - need suggestions.? I was really inspired by the grotto cage at Dapper Rat - and thinking perhaps I should build a cage instead, but then I've also read a few disheartening things about self-made cages on rat forums. Ive heard some decent things about critter nations / ferret nations cages, as well as Martins Cage. I was curious as to what you use to cage your rats in (I currently have 1 but getting him a buddy as soon as next litter is old enough to leave its mummy), what you like about it, what you dont like about it. Also if you know if the critter nation / martin cage is available in Australia and if so from where?
Can I prohibit my tenant from getting a snake as a pet? This is an owner occupied building and my tenant wants to get a snake and says I can't stop her because it is considered a "caged" animal (like a hamster or goldfish). She has a horrible track record with pets and I finally got her to get rid of the lizards, birds, ferrets, dog and chincilla she moved in with. Her lease says no pets, but it expired and she is now a tenant at will (month to month) Anyone have any ideas??? I understand where you are all coming from, BUT, she is classifying it as a caged animal. I know that no pets means no pets but does that mean you can't have a goldfish??? I think she is threatening to get a snake because she found out I am terrified of them and won't be able to sleep in the same building just knowing there is one around. We live in NH. I looked up the laws and there is no distinction between a pet and a "caged" pet. Thanks for your help.
Experienced pet parent, first time mouse mommy, looking for words of wisdom from someone whose been there...? I've been researching mouse care for about 8 months now, I'd really like to add a few mice to my family of pets. I've built a large bin cage, bought the bedding and toys and food, read a few books and websites on mice as pets, and found a good vet in the area. The only thing that I haven't done is talk to someone who has owned mice before; if anyone on here is experienced with mice as pets, please share your knowledge with me. Just as some background information regarding me and the subject at hand: I'm experienced with many types of pets including hamsters, betta fish, goldfish, cats, ferrets, land hermit crabs, tree frogs, chickens, goats, dogs, etc. I've worked with the humane society for several years rehabilitating abused animals and educating the public on proper pet care. I'm currently taking online classes to become a veterinary assistant and I belong to several animal rights groups so proper pet care means alot to me: I like all my fur and gill babies to be happy.
Getting a farret :) (Creative People!)? I have a studio apartment (it's a livingroom/bedroom in one, if you didn't know), and I want it to be all set up before I get the baby, who shall be named Scuz <3 I was wondering some ideas, because this project will be very big, I can do anything I want with the place, and have unlimited money for it, pretty much. So any ideas of ways I can make my place nice for her when I get her? I don't plan on haveing a cage, because one of my friends had one who just roamed wherever around the house, just like a cat..I'm gonna have mine do that, and just sleep in a den at night. I think they're too social to be locked up :( I mean serious creative ideas! Like I can build little lofts and ramps into my walls, etc.. Gimmie your best ideas! I wanna have the most spoiled ferret ever! Oops, *ferret. Typo.
Ferret Cage? My ferret cage has a built in wired tunnel in it? Will the tunnel the tunnel hurt a ferrets feet? If so, what can i use to cover the tunnel?
