Can female and male rats be housed in two level Ferret Nation cage on top of each other? I have two male rats and am getting two female rats. I am thinking about getting a Ferret Nation 142 cage or the similar Critter Nation cage with the two levels. The levels can be blocked from each other by pulling up and securing the ladder. Will it drive the male rats and female rats crazy to be that close to each other with no contact? I will not be breeding them. Just wondering if it would be better to have two cages in different rooms or across the room from each other.

How to keep chinchilla's poop from coming out the sides of Ferret Nation cage? My chinchilla is in the 1 level Ferret Nation cage. The cage is great but the problem is that his poop ends up on the floor. If I put bedding in there it ends up on the floor as well. Does anyone have any suggestions? Chinchillas cannot be litter box trained to poop in one place...plus you can't put anything plastic in their cage.

Modifying my Ferret Nation cage? Frankly this is probably the wrong place to ask a question about a ferret cage but here goes. I have a chinchilla, and holy crap do they poop alot. If you have ever seen a ferret nation cage you will know that the pan sits inside the cage, it is not a drop pan. I am trying to modify the cage so that the pan actually sits beneath the bars of the floor of the cage, i have purchased 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch galvanized mesh to place over the bar spacing on the floor for suitable walking for my chinchilla, now i need help modifying it so that the pan is mounted below the floor. If you understood what i just typed at all, i would greatly appreciate advice suggestions WHATEVER! modifying the cage is much cheaper than buying a whole new cage, if in the end i am unable to modify it to my needs i will inevitably purchase a martins cage, but frankly i like this cage and i want to modify it.

What is a good ferret cage for my two fuzzies? I have two ferrets, who are now 5 and 6 years old. Right now they're living in a fairly large Super Pets Deluxe Care Home. It's very well made and I havn't had any problems with the cage. The only issue is that it's beginning to seem a bit crowded for my weasels, so I've been looking for a larger cage with equal sturdiness, safety, and reliability. The Ferret Nation cage has caught my attention and I've read so many great reviews about it. The only things holding me back are the wire ramps and floor. My older ferret has a very petite build and I'm worried that her feet will get caught in the bars of the ramps and she'll injure herself. Also, I'm worried that the wire floor will hurt their feet and create messes. My ferrets are litter trained, but they tend to go outside the box too. I think the wire floor will be very messy for that reason. Right now I have Carefresh Bedding in the bottom of their cage so it is not an issue. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know :)

Ferret Nation Cage + Chinchillas = Disaster? We got a Ferret Nation Cage (http://www.midwesthomes4pets.com/category/default.aspx?submenu=2&catid=29) and since the bottom pan is so shallow, their bedding goes EVERYWHERE. We can't NOT use beddng because they aren't litter box trained... so we aren't sure how to keep the bedding in the cage. Any suggestions (besides litter box training)?

Roaches in ferret nation cage.? I just bought a used ferret nation cage.. Got it home and roaches!!! So I brought it in my backyard and put boric acid on it.. Also sprayed it with home defense. Ferret Nation Cage 142 pan not deep enough? Hi I have a ferret nation cage model 142 and ive come across a problem. My 2 ferrets kick alot of stuff out the sides on the bottom level, like poop, food, litter peices, ect. I Looking online for a deeper tray but with no luck. Does anyone know of a tray that will fit the bottom of these cages? Id love to be able to fill the bottom with stuffing like the pet stores use, it really does help obsorb oders if they miss... The bottom is 22 1/2in by 34 1/2in.

Ferret Nation cage badly needed!? I need a cage thats easier to clean! The one I have now takes me an hour to clean every two days. I need the ferret nation because the doors open up the full front side of the cage, making it easier to get to. If I cant find a new cage, I may have to give up my babies, I just dont have this kind of time to spend cleaning the cages. midwest ferret nation cage question? i just bought a ferret nation cage the double one, but i was watching a video with one in it, and im thinking that it might be just a little to big for just my two chinchillas. ok well my question is since it has the locking ramp to seperate both units would it be alright it i put my chinchillas in one unit and a ferret in the other( blocking any contact that they would have to each other of course) or would this just not work at all? well the advice of someone who owns the cage would really help thanks.oh and i havnt gotten the cage yet it should get here in like a week. haha thats why im asking. i was only thinking about it. but thank you i hadnt thought about some of those points before, so i wont be doing it, im just going to get a different cage. again thank you for your input.

Rabbit in ferret nation cage? I just bought a ferret nation cage for my rabbit only to find it wasn't the best idea and now I'm stuck with it. My mom paid a whole lot of money for it and I can't ask for her to return it. So, I'm looking to change it up a bit to fit my bunnys needs. How could I add some traction to the plastic tray so it's not so slippery for her? Is it possible to remove the storage area on the bottom of the cage so it's lowered to the ground? How can I make it easier for her to go up to the second level of the cage? Any advice would be helpful. Please don't tell me to sell it on Kijiji, we'd never get it for the amount that we paid for it and my mom won't allow it. She says I have to keep the cage and can't get a different one. Help with the Ferret Nation Cage? Hi everyone! Thanks to your help I got the ferret nation 142 cage! today is the first day it has been set up, and I'm a little concerned with the ladders. I'm not concerned about the wire spacing on it because, thankfully, it came with 3 reversible, washable, covers. I'm a little concerned because they seem lost, I put my male ferret on the top level to see how he would do with the ladders (he's more adventurous than my female) and he seemed like he couldn't figure out how to get down. I know ferrets are very intelligent animals, however I'm concerned if they will adjust or not. Will they be able to find their way around eventually?

I am suppose to be getting a ferret for christmas, because i got good grades, i've shown a positive attitude, and i've kept an above and beyond attitude. I know everything there is to know about ferrets, i've read "ferrets for dummies" front to back, and i love ferrets! I really dont have any extra money on me, for a cage, i was hoping on finding someone who would give me one for free, or for like $100, or lower:)I think i earned it for that low:) I would like the cage to be new or gentley used, and with all the parts. ferret nation cage missing parts..? i got it yesterday, it was hell bring in the house because its so heavy i could barely do it, i had to bring one by one the parts upstairs -_- and after i done that i notice a bag opened with NO bolts/caps/washers or wheels.. i called their number but they arnt open on weekends... so will i get those parts back? how long will it take? my ferrets are in a small cage right now i really dont want them being in there much longer :'c

But I don't see the point of spending another $300 dollars on a cage if I have a fairly new one that is in great condition. So is it possible to house a ferret in a critter nation, possibly even two? ok ferret noise solution what do you have in your cage so when they fall out of bed at night they dont ...? wake up on the cage floor scratching. i have a 4 story ferret nation cage. i have 2 ideas. one is put a towel on every floor to dampen the sound of her claws and 2 is get a bunch of carpet peiced that way i can replace. How can I stop my ferret from scratching his cage floor? I have two ferrets and I bought them the Ferret Nation Habitat Model 142 cage. It has plastic, texture floors that are wonderful for cleanup. However, when one of my ferrets is bored and wants out, namely while we're trying to sleep, he scratches the floor and it makes a horribly loud noise. Needless to say we can't sleep and it is very frustrating. I can't think of any way to stop him. I try to ignore it, since he wants our attention to get out, but it's simply too annoying so we have to move or get up. Any suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks.

Ferret nation parts? I have the Ferret Nation cages 141 and 142, but when I got my fuzzies and there cage I did not recieve the Pans for either cage. I contacted my local pet stores and they cannot / will not order some in for me. Becasue we are in Canada apparently shipping is horrific and takes far too long. So I called Mid West and they said they could sell me one for over $60 USD, without shipping. Then I was ready on yahoo and found www.ferret.com. I love it. Only problem is the part is $21.99 and shipping is $45.45, and I have to have it shipped fed-ex. 5 LEVEL ferret nation!!!!!!!!? omg!!!! this is a really cool story. So about 2 weeks ago I got my first 2 ferrets (sam and dean). I got then the 2 level ferret nation cage. I LOVE everything soooooooo much. my fuzzies, the cage, everything. So then yesterday I went to the SPCA to look for a new puppy for myself. I was looking around everywhere and then I go to look at the small animals. They had 11 ferrets and the lady said that this guy brought them in. One was male and female and they had babies and they didnt want any of them so they sropped them off here. it was a really cute family. then there was about 3 more (this is uncluded in the 11) that were just strays. They all looked so sad........SO I BROUGHT THEM HOME WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!! So I went to the pet store and bought 3 ferret nation add ons and put them all on my 142 model. i have a really old house so the ceilings are EXREMELY high so it just fit in my room. Now I have 13 fuzzies living all together like one big happy family. (This is true ya know) Ya the ferrets were fixed and decented. and the ferrets were living in quarintine for the person who didnt beleive me. The New Rat Nation Cage? I have heard that in the summer there will be a new rat nation cage instead of the ferret nation. Is this true? Will there be a rat nation coming out? I desperatly wanted a ferret nation for my 2 female rats but the bar spacing is too big and I would have to buy it at petsmart and it would cost 328 including tax. then i would have to spend money on covering it up with wire mesh. Should I get this ferret off of craigslist? I was looking on craigslist for a ferret and came across one that was a really good deal. This lady had to give away her ferret becuz her husband was allergic to him and the ferret also came with a ferret nation 142 cage, a bunch of toys, 4 food bowls, a water bottle, 3 litterboxes, and a ferret sweater. She also said that he is real friendly and is litter box trained. He is 5 months old. BUT, she lives about 6 hours and 30 min away from me. Should I take the deal or not?

Opinions on best ferret cage? I have two 5-year old ferrets and I'm in the market to get them a new cage. I currently have a Ferret Nation Habitat model that's about 2 years old and my fuzzies never really seemed to like it (the noise of the removable plastic base bothered them, they don't like walking on the metal bar step ladder) plus I find it very hard to keep clean with all of the small spaces between all the metal bars & the flat bottom allows food & litter to drop all over the floor under the cage. Their first cage as babies was pretty standard (all plastic pieces with a deep plastic base) but they seemed to really like it and I've been looking at the Marshall penthouse & townhouse models. I want something easy to clean, a little roomier, and most importantly, safely designed for ferrets. The online reviews of both have been confusing, some people love them and others trash them. And as with all pets, it's hard to pick an expensive home when you're not even sure of the quality or suitability for your pet. I would love to hear some other fuzzy-owners' opinions on the best ferret cage based on your experiences. Thanks for your time & help!

How many people are owned by ferrets out there? What made you decide to bring one home? Just curious. I have two fuzzbutts that we pretty much saved from a home that neglected them. 2 months ago, they were covered up in the garage, underweight, and infested with fleas. Not to mention the length of thier nails!, I asked to have them, and now I have our Kona-he's a 3 yr old sable, and Karma-she's a 10 month old dark eyed white. We absolutely love them. We renamed them because they had a whole new life, so we wanted them to have new names. They are amazing pet......if you have the time for them. I really want a ferret but....? I really want a ferret but I got some issues. My parents think ferrets have a strange problem. My mom says that something is wrong with their butts, and my dad has a problem with their poop size. Are these actual problem or just excuses. My chinchillas both died on St. Patrick's day morning. It is very sad. :( They tried to get out of their little house at the same time and got stuck and suffocated. At least thats what we are thinking. Help with potentially lone rat? Hey guys, So i have 12 rats, all males. They are currently divided into 5 groups. 7 are in a Ferret Nation (3 rats are on the top level, 4 are on bottom), then i have a slightly smaller cage with 2 in it (Gideon and Payton--Gideon is who the question is about, i will get to that in a minute), and then i have 2 smaller cages, 1 with 2 rats in it (Ryder and Ryley), and then the other, Creasy-bear is in, until he is big enough to go into the cage i just ordered, where he will live with Ryder, Ryley, and Payton. Anyways. I have had problems with Gideon ever since i got him. He decided right off the bat that he was not going to tolerate living with the boys who are currently in the Ferret Nation, and they hated him too. It got vicious. So Gideon was placed in a smaller cage, and i got him a very young rat to be his friend (Payton). He pretty much ignored Payton, up until about 2-3 weeks ago, as Payton just reached sexualy maturity, and Gideon hates him now too. They have a wood house in their cage, and Gideon makes Payton stay there, whenever they are in the cage. He will not let him down, and he sits at the bottom and every few seconds he tries to bite Payton. I have to bring Payton food, and water, because Gideon will not let him get his own. Payton screeches, alllll the time, all day and all night. It’s horrible. So I ordered a new cage a couple days ago, that Payton is going to live in, with Ryder, Ryley, and Creasy-bear (I’ve already started intros with them, and they are going okay). I don’t want to give up on Gideon just yet tho. I have already tried all my rats with him, and he turns on all of them. I don’t want to get him neutered, because if it doesn’t fix the problem, I will have spent all that money for nothing and he will still be alone, and ideally, I don’t want to put him in a big group anyways, which is what I would wind up having to do if I got him neutered. So, do you think getting a young female and spaying her, and then intro’ing her to Gideon, would work? Because then if he didn’t get along with her, she wouldn’t have to be alone, she could always live with my other boys. The cage Gideon and her would be in (if you thought this would work), is big, it can hold up to 5 rats, so it’s not like they’re cramped or anything. What are your thoughts on this?

chinchilla cage help? my chinchillas kicked their poop everywhere! i have to vacum twice a day. i have them in a large ferret nation cage. is there anyway i can make/build a cage skirt like some bird cages have? what should i make it out of? or any other help hints on how to keep their droppings in the cage! i tried litter training them but they poop too much for that and will only pee in the litter pan.

Leopard Geckos - Stress from Rats? I currently do not own any Leopard geckos, but I will in September. They will be housed in my room, and I also have my rats in my room. They are in a Ferret Nation 142, so the cage is visible from any point in my room. The gecko will be pretty far away from them, but how good is there vision? Will the smell or site of rats scare them? Of course my rats and gecko won't interact, but I just don't know if the presence of rats will freak my gecko out. chinchilla questions? 1) is ferret nation 142 a good chinchilla cage? 2) what is a good wheel to put in a cage for them? 3) how can you train them? like potty training and stuff?

Buying ferrets, but should I wait? My boyfriend and I are ready to buy our ferrets. Conveniently, they are on sale this weekend, and a brand new business came in to the petstore recently. I've already seen the two I really want (though they're all adorable). The only thing is, next weekend I am going out of state for a total of 5 days from Friday to Tuesday. My boyfriend will be able to stay home all day with them while I'm gone so there's no concern about them needing supervision. I'm just concerned that my sudden disappearance a week into our relationship will damage our relationship. Will they be alarmed that I'm gone, and will they still bond with me when I come back? Also, in the event that my boyfriend has to leave the house, would they be okay in their Ferret Nation cage together for 4 hours? How about 8 hours? Best pet that likes to be held other then a dog or cat.? I'm probably going to go for a ferret but, I want something that I can hold alot and play with, but I already have a dog and a cat so I want something different. I have a ferret nation cage already because i was set on getting a ferret but I was thinking about getting another dog. But the other day I saw them in the pet store and my heart was stolen lol. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get a ferret? Yes, I have done my reasearch, at least 4months of it. I just wanted to know from ferret owners what makes them mad, etc. Also is there any other pets that fit this? chinchilla cages for 5? i have 5 chinchilas. im looking to get a cage that they all can live in together, the wiring must be small since they breed and have babies. there are 2 males and 3 females. i want soid floors for thier feet and large for them to have room. i was thinking about getting the ferret nation cage for them but not sure if the wiring is safe for babies.

Rats Decisions....Male or Female? Well, i just found out that im a rat lover..lol..and so far i have had three rats in all! They are very exciting to me. Okay, on to the question. I just found out bout the ferret nation cage 142 and im in love with it. And i heard it woul be plenty of space for 5 rats, but, i think i only want 3 so.... i want all of them to live in the same cage. so should i get 3 females or three males or if they could live together without having babies then could you tell me the advantages/disadvantages? Rat Cage for 4 (four) females? Okay, I originally though I would be getting 2 rats but now I am getting 4 (the 4 females of a litter to prevent them from going to a pet store). I am a 1st time rat owner but I will gladly handle them and make sure they are socialized and being littermates I think they will all be fine living together. My question: What is a suitable cage for 4 rats. Before you answer please pic those that are very reasonably priced. I love the ferret nation cage and a couple of others but if I decide I don't want anymore rats then I don't want to have been out like $200 immediately. If I do really enjoy them then I will upgrade as soon as I can afford it but right now I am looking for very reasonable ones that will comfortably keep 4 littermates. Also, I have been offered a 39 gallon tank. I know a tank itself wouldn't be suitable but do they make the tank toppers that size? Or would a 20 gallon with a tank topper be a good idea? Or be big enough? I know the martins cages are good an all but if you suggest them could you post them individually or at least tell me how many rats each could comfortably hold. Are any of those starter homes like my pet starter or first or whatever they are called good enough for 4 rats (at least temp. cause I know they have a lot of plastic). I know they are the most reasonably priced.

What is the bar spacing on these cages? I am getting a pair of rats, and they will be baby's when they get them. I'd rather be woken up by rats every day of my life(domestic rats, that is) then put rats through the suffering of having to live that close to their own ammonia and have no air flow. An aquarium isn't going to happen. It is also not true that rats can die because of the Ferret Nation. Full grown rats cannot squeeze through 1" spacing, and that is what the Ferret Nation has. I belong to a forum that has dozens of members with Ferret Nations and no dead rats. Also, 1/2" wire coated in plastic can be attached to the Ferret Nation so that babies can't get out. I'm just asking the bar spacing on those cages. I don't need anyone telling me things are not going to work when I have researched them a LOT.

How many rats can a Ferret Nation 142 hold? I have 9 rats total (all males). 5 are currently in the Ferret Nation, one is temporarily in cage by himself (it's big enough to hold 4 rats), 1 is in the small "nursery cage", cuz he's only 6 weeks old, and 2 are in another cage (that's big enough for 2). If i ever wanted to, could all 9 of my boys fit in the Ferret Nation?
