Question about wire bottomed rabbit cages? Okay, I DO know that wire cages can hurt the buns feet, but if you had to get one of the wire bottomed ones, is there anything that is cheap that you can put over it to make it feel better? OR could you use the rabbit bedding?
what are some ways to hold a shelf in a rabbit cage up? I'm thinking about building a rabbit cage out of wire grid cube shelving (can't remember the actual name) and I want to put shelves in the cage. I'm thinking about putting PVC piping underneath it as a support so the poor rabbit doesn't fall 2 feet while happily hopping around on the second level. Any other suggestions as to what I can use to make the shelf more stable for rabbits?
Will Guinea Pigs be happy in a Rabbit Cage? I have a large Rabbit cage, which has a standard basin bottom, but the cover is mostly clear plastic on a slope, with the top being wire door that opens up. I am planning on getting two female guinea pigs after the summer, and I was hoping I could use the cage again for them, but I am worried because of the plastic siding. I know the guinea pigs love to climb up and gnaw on their cage wires a bit, so I am afraid the plastic will be harmful for them, or some how reduce their oxygen. Other than that, the cage is very long and wide, so they have plenty of running space, and it is easy to clean. Any ideas, suggestions? Should I bite the bullet and buy a geniune guinea pig cage, or will they be ok in this more enclosed cage? I will, of course, be giving them plenty of Floor and Lap time during the day, but I want to make them as comfortable and healthy as possible. The cage also has a water bottle attachment, so no worries there. For those of you pointing it out, yes, I've made sure that it's not a wire bottom. It's just a plastic basin with higher walls than a standard hamster/guinea pig cage, so, very easy to clean out the shavings and the like. Also comes with a corner litter box that can be removed. I normally made it into a cozy-style corner for my dwarf rabbit.
What is the best kind of cage for a rabbit? Should the bottom be wire, wood, etc. Right now I have my two rabbits in wire cages, one of them has been for almost 5 years but I don't think they're very comfortable. I let my rabbits out all day long so they can run around and be comfortable. I'm going to get two cages made for them and I'm wondering what the bottoms should be made of. I've seen cages where there's part wood and part wire, etc. Any ideas would be very great and helpful! Both of my rabbits are indoor.
Can cardboard and tile be used to make a rabbit cage floor? im making a rabbit cage out of wire storage cubes.for the floor i was going to cut slits in cardboard, use zip ties to secure it to the cage, and cover it in tiles(vinyl for bottom floor, carpet for top).then i was going to put 2 or three inches going up the sides to keep peee from spilling out and glue the side and bottom peices together with waterproof glue.would this floor be too weak or would it be able to stand up to chewing and scratching?
What should I put for the rabbit cage carrier? Could anyone tell me what could I put under the cage carrier? [Not the food bowl or water] Like the thing that goes under the wire cage, and the pan that hold the rabbit's poop and pee. <--- what should i put in there?
Any suggestions for building a larger rabbit cage? I have one cage that I have my rabbit, Isis, in but she's starting to outgrow it. Since I don't have a lot of extra money at the moment, I was hoping I could add on to it somehow but I'm not sure what the best or cheapest way to do this would be. I spent $50 dollars on the cage and would prefer to keep the cost of add-ons under $40 if possible. Yes, Isis must be kept in a cage because I am currently in a rental house that doesn't allow freely-roaming animals. It is a wire cage with a tray in the bottom, about 3 1/2 ft by 3 ft with a door in the front. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have a small dog kennel, would this work as a rabbit cage? I have a small dog kennel. It @ four feet long and three in width. It has a pan that is removable at the bottom. Would this work for a rabbit cage. I have read it would. I plan on litter training my rabbit. I will start with a small pan in the corner the rabitt chooses to go to the bathroom. I have read that the wire cages can be uncomfortable for a rabbit. Many suggest putting cardboard over the wire. Just wondered what some peoples opinions are
My rabbit chews his wire around the cage? I have a boy rabbit which has lots of toys to play with and had plenty of things to chew on, but he keeps chewing the wire till the point were he is actually breaking the wire off. im really worried he is going to get out . Where can I get a Rabbit Cage? I have some cages that work but I am considering getting a 24"x24"x18" and a 24"x36"x18" wire bottom cage for my rabbits. I have seen them for $40 and $50 dollars, but I was wondering If anyone knows of a websit where they are cheaper.

If Building a rabbit (sm to med. size) cage out of wire shelf cubes how many cubes high would it HAVE to be? I'm NOT asking opinion, I'm asking what is the minimum. Please don't tell me that I would have to have it 3 cubes high because no rabbit is actually that tall. Is one cube okay? thnx
Will my cage be okay for a dwarf rabbit? I've been thinking about getting a dwarf rabbit. I've been reading several books about having an indoor rabbit as a pet. Two of the books specifically said to get a wire cage that has a door that opens on the side. That way, the rabbit won't be forced to come out. Just open the door and the rabbit will come out when ready. I already have a cage. I used it for my guinea pig who passed away. It's all cleaned and sanatized and ready to use. My cage is wire with a plastic bottom. It doesn't have a door on the side. The whole top of the cage is one big door and lifts. So, whenever I let the rabbit out of the cage, I will have to pick it up to let it out. Will the rabbit be okay with that? Should I get a cage with a door that opens on the side? I don't really want to buy a new cage since I already have one.
My vet told me to buy a new rabbit cage? I have one of the standard rabbit cages where the rabbit is on wire. I was a little concerned about it in the first place and then i went to the vet and she wasn't to happy about it either. I saw alternatives like buying a mat so she has some support but the matt is just going to get covered in pee...and completely destroyed. Isn't it? What cages if any have you found good for your rabbit?
Is it safe to clean my rabbit cage? I am 26 weeks pregnant. I have two rabbits that live in a cage in my shed for the winter... it just accurd to me that it MIGHT be unhealthy for me to clean their cage during my pregnancy... this is only the second time I have had to since they are normally in a wire bottom cage outside. Do you think it poses the same risks as changing a cat box? I couldn't find any info online. Thanks.
Can a rat reside in a previously used rabbit cage? I'm thinking of buying a rat or two and was wondering if they could live in a previously used rabbit cage. A rabbit used to live in it. Would that be okay? And don't say "use a rat cage, not a rabbit one." This cage is made of wood and wire mesh and will be able to contain rats as soon as I add and extra floor onto it. Please just answer my question! (: Thanks. NO, the flooring is not made of mesh. That is uncomfortable and terribly bad for animal's feet! The bottom is all smooth wood. (:
Rabbit cage preference? What's the better type of cage for an indoor rabbit- a whole wire cage with a pull-out-tray thingy with no bedding, or a wire cage with plastic on the bottom half and with bedding?
Would it be safe to use those stick on tiles to cover wire mesh on the levels of my rats new cage? I was going to buy a Critter Nation cage, but then I remembered that I have an old plastic and wire rabbit cage that's much larger than the CN (48" x 36" x 36"). The only problem with it is that it is one level, so I'd need to add a couple levels to it so thy can enjoy themselves more. All I can think of to make the levels is hardware cloth but i don't want my girls' feet to be on wire all day (though the bottom of the cage is solid). I was thinking I could just use those stick on tiles from the hardware store and cut them to fit the new shelves. Would this be safe? I don't want to use wood because wood will absorb pee and it'll begin to smell after a while, and my girls tear fleece to shreds so I can't really use that. If tile isn't safe what is? Or, what could I make the shelving out of that is solid? Because if you knew anything about rats you'd know that the majority of store bought cages marketed towards rats are much too small! The Critter Nation is top of the line but with shipping it'll cost around $200. I wouldn't mind paying that but this rabbit cage is much larger and is just as sturdy. Some galvanized wire mesh and tile won't cost more than $50.
Can I keep a rabbit in a cage of chicken wire? Well, my dad has a bunch of chicken wire (that's standard height, not yet cut) left over from his recent project of building a fence for a compost pile. He says he doesn't want to buy a hutch, or make one, but I can feel free to use the wire. I also have a guinea pig cage from my last piggy. I can make a fence outside, or i can use the cage in my room. What should I do? And if you have any tips for building the fenced cage outside (if that's what i decide to do) please give them to me. Please and Thank You.
How do i build a rabbit cage built for two? Ok i have two rabbits and they get along good,But the cage is to small! And i cant build it outta wood cuz the pee will leak through, and i dont have the money to buy one from the store! So is there any other way?Oh and i do not have chicken wire!!!! And i want the cage to be kinda for both,outside/inside
wire cage for rabbits? I covered my rabbit's wired cage floor with paper towels. Is that okay?
Is this animal abuse? A rabbit kept in a cage with wired floor? So my neighbor, keeps a rabbit outside his house. The rabbit seems fully grown. It is living in a small cage about 1m*0.5m the cage has wired floor. There's are no newspapers for the poop and pee. There is water and food though. The pee just runs into a drain about 2 m away. Every time I walked pass, the floor is wet and yellowish. The poop just piles up on the concrete floor, below the cage. What do I do?
Can i use a wire dog crate cage for a bunny? I was looking on ebay and i typed in rabbit cages and there expensive so then i typed in dog kennels and the cages look the same and the dog ones are cheaper. It wasnt wire on the bottom of the cage they had a tray that you can take out.

question on rabbit cage? you know when u buy a new cage, and there's this stuff that makes the metal all sleek, and comfortable for the rabbit to sit on, so the rabbit's feet don't get hurt. except, that white coating on her cage is rubbing off over time, and the metal is showing. is there some kind of paint i can buy to recoat my rabbit's wire bottom cage??

Can you put cat litter in a rabbit cage.? I have a rabbit cage that has wire under it so the poop just falls through I change it out a lot and it still stinks can i put cat litter under there they can't get to it or anything. and will it make it smell better.
Are wire-bottomed rabbit cages bad for them? I heard that it was bad for their hocks to be on the wire bottomed caged vs a cage with bedding on the bottom. My problem is my 4 1/2 is mostly litter trained..he NEVER goes outside of his cage, but never uses his litter box in his cage. In fact he uses it more as a bed. In a week or 2, he's getting fixed and I was thinking it might be a good idea to have a cage with the wired bottom so it's more sanitary and he isn't laying in poop/pee? I dont, know, what are your opinions on this? He would have a timothy matt in his cage and a litter box which he uses as a bed He's a 4 1/2 month old holland lop
Has anyone seen this rabbit cage? http://www.cagesdirect.com/rabbit-cages-prevue-tubby-rabbit-cages-c-31_32_148.html I am looking into buying a new cage for my rabbit that has a pull out tray. Has anyone seen this cage in person or own one? I have not seen anything like it in the pet store. I am trying to decide if it is strong enough to hold his weight without anything bending. Also what do you think of the metal? It appears to be a coated metal and I wonder how easily this would be chewed off. Currently he is in a wire cage without the coating.
Would this do for a temporary rabbit cage? I was going to go get a rabbit tomorrow. I had planned to go get the cage and rabbit, but the female rabbit got a hurt foot, so he's using that cage. I can still get (insert whatever name I use). Would a dog kennel (the black wire one) work for it. He's a mini rex and the kennel is big enough for a corgi..
Safe paint for a rabbit cage? At the end of the week, i'm getting a baby flemish giant rabbit. For it, I have a huge metal wire cage with the pull out pan in the bottom. The pan isn't in the best of shape, and it needs to be painted. I need to know what types of paint I can and can't use. I was thinking spray paint? Something non-toxic? Any help or input would be great! Thanks :)
Question about a rabbit cage? I have a rabbit cage, and it has wire flooring.... If i put newspaper or something on the bottom, then a bedding on top of it, would it be okay? Thanks. Okay thanks. I was told it was bad for their feet, so I was worried.
Is wire dangerous for rabbit feet/paws? Because I am on vacation and I just got got a new rabbit amd I am asking is a wire cage dangerous for rabbit's feet/paws? Should I put some carpet and litter train her? Help!
rabbit cage latch alternatives? help me. i have a mini rex who was able to escape from her cage by moving the metal wire cage from the pan. i need a buckle or a latch to secure the metal cage and pan together. any alternatives? like a clamp? the pan is plastic. not metal wire.
how do i keep my rabbit from chewing on the wires of her cage? we have a new rabbit that our first rabbit is not used to yet and when ever he comes around her cage she just starts chewing on the wires on her cage. is this just her being territorial? and is there a way to make her stop doing this?

I need to know how to set up the cage for my rabbit, but i have heard a lot of opinions about wood chips, some people say they're a good idea, others say they cause respiratory problems. Rabbit question - What to use on the bottom of C&C cage/condo (wire storage cube squares) for my Pet Rabbits? Hi! I'm building a rabbit condo for 2 rabbits that I'm getting. They are litter trained, so I'm wondering what I can put on the floor of the cage and on the floor of the second level? I thought about coroplast, but would that be too slippy? I also thought about those interlocking rubber mats, but would the rabbits chew them. Also, I've seen people use carpet, but don't the rabbits try to chew it? So, what do you think I should use? I want something that's easy to clean and something the rabbits won't chew too much. All answers greatly appreciated. Best answer will be chosen (10 points.) Thanks, Trish
how to take blood stains out of rabbit fur? I was cleaning my rabbits cage and the cages wire poked my finger n I didn't see the blood runing down that's when I picked up my rabbit. I tried grooming it out but it won't come out
RABBIT CAGES: Can Corrugated Plastic be used in place of the metal pan at the bottom of a rabbit cage? Also...? I was wondering about making your own cheap rabbit cage and I found a site for making Guinea pig cages with shelf cubes and coroplast but I want the waste from the rabbits to be able to go onto a pan at the bottom and metal pans are so expensive... Does anyone know if corrugated plastic could be a good replacement. ALSO, can rabbit cages made from wire shelf cubes be stacked on top of eachother. AND can you hold wire shelf cubes together with J-clips to make rabbit cages? AND can wire shelf cubes be used on the bottom of a rabbit cage too or are they too spaces apart? Thank you :)
Rabbit cage help please? Hi! My two holland lops, Jimmy and Bella have outgrown their cage, and I want to buy a new one. Do you know of any pet shops in Singapore that sell non-wire cages like this:http://www.petsathome.com/shop/rabbit-140-guinea-pig-and-rabbit-cage-by-ferplast-15976 Suitable for 2 rabbits and roomy? Does anyone have any rabbit cages for sale? I am looking for the rabbit cage with a mesh wire bottom so rabbits are off the floor of their cage and it has a removable pull out tray on the bottom to make cleaning the cage easier. I need to find two of those type of cages for a breeding pair of rabbits and to provide my female rabbit a secure place to have her babies. She has 3 more months before she is breedable, but need the cages ASAP.
Turning a shelving unit into a rabbit cage? I understand you can't have solid walls due to ventilation but if it had a wire front and holes drilled in the wood for more air? And of course ramps between levels? Just looking for good ideas for a "cage" for three cottontails that spend *most* of their time in their cage. They get out for about two hours a day but with a toddler and a dog there is only so much out and about they can do safely.
Is there a place you can buy replacement parts for a rabbit cage? I have a cage for my pet rabbit and it has a plastic bottom and a collapsible wire cage top. It's one of the my first pets cages from PetSmart. The plastic bottom is fine but the wire cage needs to be replaced and it looks like they only have cages that come with the top and bottom. Kind of a strange question, I'm sure, but cages are anywhere from $40-$100 and I just don't have that kind of money right now. Any suggestions on where I might find just the top part?
Rabbit cage question...? alright so im thinking about a rabbit.....but as far as cages go..those things are ridiculously expensive...i was looking at petsmarts website and a 3 layer hamster cage is 30 bucks and a cramped looking 2 level cage is 75...so i was thinking what about cat or dog crates...could i keep a rabbit in that??? I guess the bedding might spill but besides that do you know of any problems?? because those wire cages start at what 25 bucks for a small one and they look wayyy sturdier...i could add toys and ladders to them too...does anyone see a problem with those cages for a bunny?? you know like could they get out of the bars or something?? im thinking i could make something to fit around the bottom / outside of the crate to keep litter in...and im thinking about housebreaking it anyways so waht to you think??? good idea? i just wanted to respond to toobingaddict i understand what you are saying about them chewing through and all but i was doing further research and looked at this http://breyfamily.net/bunnycage.html i thought this might be good..if i put some kind of pan at the bottom...what do you think? because i looked at the link you sent me and i was just thinking that might be confining and small...so i thought some extra levels might add space...but those cages with the extra platforms are SUPER expencive...so what do you think about that cage idea?
Where can I find a good but cheap cage for a rabbit? I just got a rabbit and I'm looking for a good cage to start off with. I want one with a wire floor. I don't want to spend too much, maybe $60 at the most. But I want a good one. Anyone have any suggestions?
Can gerbils be kept in a rabbit cage? Or will they get out? the space between the wires is 3/4 of an inch. and it's a small rabbit cage, bur it'd be big for gerbils. Yes I know they are chewers but if they have other stuff to chew on why would they bother with the bars? Thanks! it has a plastic bottom
Wire Bottom Cage? Bad For My Guinea Pig? I'm getting a Guinea Pig and i'm using my old rabbit cage because I cant buy a new one. The problem is the cage is wire-bottomed instead of plastic. fixing up a rabbit cage? I recently bought a new cage for our bunny and we wanted to use the old wire walls to set up as like a playpen out side of his cage. Now the problem is the bunnies chewed some of the coating/epoxy that is on the cage. I don't want it to get rusty so I was going to spray paint it or something but I don't know what I could use that would not heart the bunnies if they ate it. Any ideas on what I can use to re coat the wire cage???
I want to get my rabbit a bigger cage. Whats a good cage to get? And I dont like the bottom of the cages to be wire .
Any one have any suggestions for my rabbit cage? I am making a rabbit cage and want to build a big one. I was thinking about using plywood for the floor, sides and roof and thick wire mesh for the large side (as it will be against a wall). Is plywood 6mm thick strong enough for her? HELP! Many thanks :) x P.S If you have any better suggestions I will be more than grateful.
Is it normal for rabbits to bite on their cage wires? My rabbit bites continuously at her cage's wires when she's put there for the evening. She has plenty of chew toys she seems to ignore in favor of this habit. Any suggestions as to how i can deaden the sound, shes keeping up our neighbors.
Do you use straw for your rabbit's cage? I have a cage that is wired on the bottom, what would be the best bedding material for it? Also, do rabbits go to the bathroom in a litter box, with training?
What sized cage is needed for a Dutch Rabbit? I know that Dutch Rabbits are a smaller breed, not Dwarf, but prety small, right? Anyway, I have my rabbit, Clover, in a 2x2x2 ferret cage with no ledges/shelves/whatever. In her cage is her food bowl, her hay rack/saltwheel combo that I made from half inch mesh chicken wire (I cut (2) 2x3 inch holes in it for her to get the hay out) also, 3 small tossing and chewing toys, her resting platform (her cage doesn't have a wire bottom or anything, but I noticed that she would dig a hole in the aspen bedding and lay on the bare cage floor, so I pout the platform in there so I didn't have to keep emptying shavings from her food bowl and sweeping the floor. There is also a 3 sided corner hammock that she likes to stand on. I haven't started working on litter training her yet (I got her a week and 3 days ago, so I am giving her time to get really comfortable with my house first) I can't let her out very often because we have cats and dogs and they can all jump over the baby gate into my room. I do not have a basement, I do wish she could have more time out, I have built a small cardboard playpen so I can let her out in the living room, but the problem is that everytime I want to let her out in any area of the house I have to lock all 4 of our dogs and all 3 cats in the tiny bathroom (6x8 ft roughly) It wouldn't really be a problem, since the dogs are all dachshunds and one yorkie, but the dogs howl and bark nonstop and you can hear it anywhere in my house and the noise scares clover so she doesn't want to come out of her hiding house. I know my cats would be mean to her because one of them (The youngest) reaches through the bars of her cage and tries to grab her, I try to stop him everytime nhe does it, but I can't sit in my room all day to make sure he doesn't do it, he even does it at night to my rat as well. My other cat is an avid hunter and has killed wild baby bunnies and squirrels before. The dogs are all of the hunting or vermin kiling type. I really love her, she is such a spunky little girl, she is constantly boxing my hand/the toys away when I play with her with her toys. She is happy most of the time because she binkies alot, but she sems really bored when I am not playing with her. When I get a new apartment or something after college, I wil not have any problem at all because then all I'll have is the two cats (can be locked in the bathroom easily) my ferret who can stay in his cage when she's out and my rat who honestly doesn't care about anything but her food. I don't have an issue with my ferret being out because it seems that the cats are more afraid of him than he is even slightly aware that they exsist. I have to watch the dogs though, but he does a good job against them too, I just have to referee, but a rabbit doesn't really stand much chance against all those teeth.... I play with her serveral times during the da;y, but she has to stay in the cage when I do it, I toss her TP roll around in front of her and she tosses ittonto a different spot, I wiggle her stuffed bone toy in front of her nose and she boxes it out of my hands and I shake her jug toy I made for her in front of her and she either boxes it or tries to get it out of my hands to toss it, depending on her mood. We play: in the mornings for about 15 minutes, after I fill her food bowl and hay rack for a few minutes until she get's hungry and goes to eat, wafter I change her bedding she get's especially frisky and wants to play for around 15 -20 more minutes, and then often I play with her/give her a treat and pet her for about 10 minutes at night before bed. I don't have a problem with interacting with her, I would love to have her out with me all day every day if I could, I am just so concerned for her safety around my families other pets I am too scared to risk her getting attacked.
Rabbit Cage.... How? Im building a rabbit cage and i thought it may be good to put it here. i have those 'organizing wire shelves' from target, would these be any help? this is for two bunnies. just some tips, im gonna make it pretty big, i got a lot of stuff to use. i know, i hate it when i see people with wire flooring... well either use coroplast or wood with an old towel on it and then sheddings.
rabbit cage help!? i have a cage that uses bedding.but ive seen wire cage bottoms so the pee and poop fall through for easy cleaning.but im sure it would bother the bunnys feet.but if i put a slab of wood over half of the cage so she has a solid part would a cage bottom work?
Where / how can I get a simple, roomy wire hamster cage? I've been trying to find a wire hamster cage with a solid bottom, and lots of space for roaming. I don't want it huge (like a rabbit cage) but big enough so the little guy doesn't get bored. Also, which is the biggest factor, I do NOT want it to come with all the accessories like a wheel, food bowl, etc. One last thing, I'd like it to be under 30 or 40 dollars. Any ideas are appreciated! :) Oh - I don't want any accessories becuase I already have them, and they're good quality.
looking for a rabbit cage!? I'm looking for a two story rabbit cage that does not have wire flooring. So far I haven't been able to find one that I like. He needs one that is sturdy (he is rather tough on things) and I really can't build him one. Any help would be appreciated!
Should I get my rabbit a new cage? Do you think i should get my rabbit a new cage. Its wire floored and the bottems of her back feet are a little red. shes 6 years old and im not sure how much longer she will live. after she passes we plan on getting another rabbit but i think i should get her another hutch or somthing with out a wire bottem or somthing where she could get off her feet w/o having to lay on wire again making her feel uncomfy. What do you think? and what should i get for her? what is the best type of flooring to add to the cage? and what will keep her healthy for years to come (hopefully)
Why did a stray husky take our rabbit out of its cage and kill it?!? Our neighbors knocked at our door to say they heard one of our rabbits crying and that a big dog had it. I have a big hutch just about built, this is the last night Baxter would have been in a conventional cage and he gets killed, so so sad! Our other rabbit is in a locked hutch already, I had them together under a tarp with a heat lamp. The large wire cage was on a plywood board, on top of a large metal bin with feed in it. I feel so bad, if only I had finished the hutch one day sooner! Why on earth would a stray dog come in my yard and kill our rabbit? We had just two. This second rabbit was from my daughter's science teacher... I've never seen the husky before, it has a collar but no tags. Animal control took it away...
What type of litter can go in the bottom of a Rabbit cage? The cage is a wire cage, so he doesn't actually stand in the bottom, he stands on the wires (or more so, newspapers on top of the wire floor) and he goes into the tray below it. We have tried to litter train him in a litter tray inside the cage, but he tends to go wherever the litter pan is not. This being said, we are just looking for a litter that goes into the bottom tray that will soak up his urine and not stink up our room so much! I have heard Kitty litter is not safe for them if they eat it, but what if he has no access to the bottom? if this is not safe, what type should we look for? also, does the bunny-safe litters absorb the odors so our room don't smell like bunny? Thank you in advance for any help you can lend us. We live in an apartment, nowhere we can really put it where the smell won't effect us. we line the bottom with newspaper, but the urine just kinda rots in the paper and really stinks up our room -- why a thin layer of litter would work on top of that -- just to soak up the urine and smell as well.
where can i get cage material for making a rabbit cage? anyone know of a good company? i need wire cube panels like the ones that target sells but i need them 28" x 28"... target is making them wierd now and it's making me mad....
Is it safe to put a mat in a rabbits cage? I currently have a smaller male rabbit. He lives outside in a larger cage. I was wondering if It would be safe to put a all natural "mat" in his cage? Not to cover the whole thing or anything. Just something for me to put food on. (The cage is off the ground and has a wire bottom with some huts to hide in)
rabbit cage/run?? This is the cage I have purchased for my rabbit: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441808080&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1184544012984&itemNo=8&In=Small+Pet&N=2047888+4294966683&Ne=2 I have heard that indoor cages can also be used as outdoor runs, if the wire top is placed on the ground. With all the rabbit's I've owned so far, I haven't done this. This is because I am worried of it escaping by burrowing, since the cage tops to not contain a wire mesh floor. I would like to let her run on the fresh grass, but how long would it take her to burrow under, if I did? What are some things I can do to prevent her from escaping when I put her in? Thank you for answering.
What should I put on the bottom of my rabbits cage? I have a 3 month year old Holland Lop bunnie. The cage we have had a wired bottom and we heard they can hurt the rabbits feet, so we took it out. We put a litter box in the cage with apsen wood chips in it only and we put newspaper only done on the rest of the bottom of the cage. But then he started to chew the paper so we took it out. He doesn't seem to like towels either he just moves them. Do I have to put something down or can I just keep the solid metal bottom????
How to build your own rabbit cage: has anyone done it? I would really love to have my own rabbit, either from a pet store or from a rescue or shelter. I was wondering if anyone out there who owns rabbits, guinea pigs, big hedgehogs or ferrets have ever built there own cage out of a wood / wire type thing... :) The reason I am asking is because it seems like a lot of 'medium' sized animal owners make their own indoor cages for their animals. I'm wondering because most of the cages out there seem very expensive, good-sized ones $100+. Anyone out there know a helpful website / book / personal ideas on what I could do to possibly build my own cage for maybe under $60 that would be able to hold a medium sized rabbit... thanks! :)
What is the max bar spacing for a rat cage? I was at petsmart today and there were 3 rabbit cages on clearance. These things had to be 3 feet long, 2 foot wide and 2 foot tall! They were on clearance for $26! The only problem is that the bar spacing is sort of large. I really wouldnt like to mod the cage at all by adding more mesh wire or whatever so i need to know what the max spacing is. I will have male rats so that should help them not get out.
Is my new cage for my guinea pig going to be big enough? My guinea pig is in a rabbit cage right now with the wired floor, therefore her little feet go through it. I got a new cage coming for her that measures at 29 inches long. 17 inches wide. And 16 inches tall. Is that a good size for a guinea pig or no? Is too small? Too big? Just right? Just Okay? Could be worse? Could be better? Help me out pleaseee. Thank you. [:
Rabbit Cage Question Please? Hi , I asked a question a while back about Rabbit hutches but now im contemplating on whether to get an Indoor Rabbit instead. Since I'm getting two i was looking at cages and i saw a really nice one (about 4ft long) but then i found out with further Research that's not suitable for two rabbits and ever since then i have been finding it hard to find an indoor Cage big enough for two. So anyway i done some further Research and found out that people often use wire crates for dogs as big indoor cages and i was wondering if maybe that will be suitable and big enough for two rabbits - its 118 x 76 x 88cm (Largest one) I would just like to know is that big enough for two rabbits? Thx for reading and much help will be appreciated Sorry here's a link - http://www.petsathome.com/find/product-is-v00083 And if you mean speially designed for rabbits of course i'll add the essentials bedding , toys etc Are you sure Deb ? If you click on the XX large on the drop down list does that still seem small? It can fit a whole Goldren Retriever inside by the looks of it
I have one of those wired floor cages for my rabbit? Don't worry, I cover the wires. But since I don't have a litter box yet, is it okay if I uncover the litter corner where my bunny always goes so it can go through the wires?
can this rabbit huch be uesd as a bird cage? in going to get a budgerigar and want it to have a big cage i also have a 2 year old rabbit cage (that my parents bought for my sisters bunny she moved out with the bunny i was thinking i could use it for my bird here are the measurements: width 55 cm hight inc. legs 92cm hight without legs 59 cm hight of legs 31 cm length 1 m 14 cm there is a partition 38 cm in from the left side also the wire mesh on the fount of the cage is too big so i would have to replace that there is a lid on the top which i would padlock shut so if someone knocks it is wouldn't unlock i know it wouldn't make the ideal bird cage thats why its a rabbit cage not a bird cage but is it possible as I don't have that much money and a good decent size and quality bird cage is quite expensive is it not so if i could it would save me lots of money it also has a pull out draw so thats good and i would put perches with varying sizes (so he doesn't get foot cramp from standing on the same sized perch) will it work?
Can wire cages hurt a rabbits feet? I've heard from people, books, and on google that cages that have a wired bottom can hurt a rabbit's feet. Is that true?
Where is the best place to go to buy a rabbit hutch? My daughter has 2 rabbits and they are in a big wire cage and I am worried that it will not be warm enough for them this winter . I would like to find a big hutch that has plenty of room for them to run around since the cage they are in now is really big. It must be an outside hutch because my husband says no to rabbits in the house.
Looking for rabbit cages accessories? Does anyone know where I can find wire risers that go in solid bottom rabbit cages? A lot of people that raise Angoras put them in solid bottom cages at shows to keep shavings and feces out of their wool. I raise Jersey Woolies and I am not sure where to find them. I am planning on going to ARBA convention this fall. Websites would be great!
Why does my rabbit insist on peeing in her food bowl no matter where I put it in the cage? I have always understood that rabbits pick a corner and go there. Her cage has a wire bottom and she used to go to the same corner and squat to pee, but nowadays she pees in her food bowl every single day no matter where I place it in her cage. Even right after I put veggies or pellets in it. It is soo very nasty too. Why isnt her pee normal yellow pee? Why is it soo dark and reddish brown all the time no matter what she eats be it pellets, or alfalfa hay, or lettuce. So I need 2 answers please. Why is her pee soo nasty and is it normally colored? And why does she keep peeing in her food bowl no matter where i put it or how good I clean it. Thank you in advance for your help.
How do you take care of a rabbit? So my mom and I found a tame rabbit outside on our front lawn. We lured it closer to us by using celery and some seed corn mix. I eventually caught the rabbit, because it was either going to get away and eventually be caught by the coyotes we have sometimes out by the creek out behind our house, or something else would happen because this was an obviously tame rabbit. According to my research on what type of rabbit this is, it appears to be a Netherland Dwarf. We currently have it set up in a wire cage with a bucket type floor on it. We have treats, the mix food, bedding, and water in for the rabbit. It is currently very skinny and it's fur is somewhat muddy, but we have managed to brush most of the coat on its back. We are first time rabbit owners and would like to know how to properly take care of it if we cannot find any "missing rabbit" posters. So what else do we need to get/ know to properly take care of the rabbit? My mom and I already plan on taking the rabbit to the vet to be checked out. We also have a litter box for the rabbit in it's cage. We also own 7 dogs and are making sure that the bunny and the dogs do not cross paths (the bunny is in a completely separate room closed off) This rabbit looks like it's a full grown rabbit. It is approximately 12 inches when stretched out. I took a closer look at the list of rabbit types, and upon further inspect and comparison the rabbit looks more like a chinchilla rabbit. Here is a picture of the rabbit <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b237/stormbringer246/Image1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> here's a picture link that actually works: http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b237/stormbringer246/?action=view¤t=Image1.jpg
How do I keep my mom away from my rabbit? Everytime my mom is near my rabbit, she sprays it with water (my rabbit it gravely afraid of water). Or she gives my rabbit fruit (I only give my rabbit fruit as treats when she does something good. My mom is spoiling her). Or she takes out my rabbit's food from her cage. Or she takes off the waterbottle (she never puts these items back on the cage. which explains why my rabbit is so bony). Or she sits there and pokes my rabbit really hard with a wire stick (she makes them out of coathangers) like some retard, and she thinks its funny when my rabbit screams. I'm really getting sick of her. She's annoying as fuk and does not understand the words "STAY AWAY FROM MY RABBIT". && no i'm not getting rid of my rabbit under any circumstances. so don't even suggest that.
do rabbits need beding in the cage? wells i was wondering if it needed bedding on the bottom of the cage and would it be better to put newspaper on the wired cage that hes standing on or juss leave it like that? wells how am i suppose to set up the rabbit cage mainly
My rabbit likes to be picked up and held, but he doesnt like to be taken out of his cage.. why? I have a dwarf rabbit who is fairly new to us (2 or 3 months) He is very sweet and likes to be held, walked and pet, but when i try to get him out of his cage he refuses. i try to get him out with treats and even singing lol. but that didnt work. If i just reach in and grab him when he isnt looking then its fine but when he comes up to the door and i try to get him or pet him then he runs to the back of the hutch. At first we had a small wire cage and he was fine but didnt have much protection. So we got a bigger one with a shelf and lots of room (all walls are wood except for the bottom and from which are wire) what is wrong and how can i help it??

Can you help my rabbit? My rabbit has always lived in the same wire cage, but recently I noticed that it is hurting his feet. So bought him a new cage, but he doesn't like it all. I trick him into it with one of his toys, but once he realizes where he is he freaks out, jumps out & runs back to the old cage. Does anyone know how I can make him more comfortable with the new cage?
Rabbit Hutch / Cage Plans? I am looking to find a nice indoor rabbit hutch/cage for a bunnie or two. I don't like the wire bottom kind, since it can hurt the bunnie's feet. So am looking for a nice one that I can build or buy that is not too expensive that has a nice solid floor and plenty of room for the bunnie(s) to move. Any info would be great with links. Thanks!
my rabbit hates been in his cage why? I have a 10 week old rabbit and he has a really big cage to live in. I clean it out every few days yet he hates been closed in. I let him out as much as posible and when ever he is running about he is fine but as soon as i put him back he scratches at the cage door and bites the wire and the only way i can stop him is by giving him food so now i feel awful putting him in his cage. How can i make him happier to be in his cage ? please help yeh i would hate to be locked away but i cant spend every minute of the day watching him when he is out. he has to be in his cage for part of the day.
How do you prevent a domestic rabbit burrowing? my rabbit has an outdoor cage with a large area of grass to eat and run around in however she has been burrowing rather deep holes and im scared that she will escape. We have tried puting a wire mesh under the cage but apparently this hurts their feet so i dont put it on that often. Any prevention other than scolding her?
Rabbit cages? I need help deciding which kind of cage is best for a rabbit. (Or my future rabbit) At first, I thought a cage with a plastic floor would be most comfortable, but I recently discovered that an all wire cage is much more clean for the rabbit, because it is not stepping on poop and pee when in the litter box, which apparently prevents tape and ringworms. So... Plastic bottomed cage: easier on feet, rabbit less likely to push hay and bedding out of cage, more privacy. All wire Cage: No need for litter box, cleaner on paws which prevents diseases. Which one would you choose? Comfort or Cleanliness? I want to best possible cage for my (future) rabbit please. Also, to rabbit owners who have a wire cage, don't rabbits eat their feces the first time it comes out to get all the nutrients? Does that mean they can't do that with a wire cage? That confuses me. this is the plastic cage http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6067+10431+16725&pcatid=16725 and this is wire http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6067+10431+7769&pcatid=7769
Why does my rabbit bite his cage?? He is a few months old and he gets fed rabbit food every day. He always has water and he gets grass and carrots, lettuce ect. too. Yesi have heard of that and we have a big stick in there but he hasnt toutched it! I do play around with him and stuff too, hes not just left there.
