How does the rabbit cage plans look? So my dad and I are building my rabbit a cage. He's maybe 4-5 pounds, and is a Holland Lop (or some similar breed). We've been wanting to build him a bigger cage, and my dad and I drew a basic plan out. How does it look? http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z307/ALittleRockToldMe/Dagwoodscagedesign.png I hope that shows. That's the basic plan. It'll be 6 feet long and 4 feet deep, 2 feet high. He's gonna have an open topped cage (he doesn't jump very much), with a hutch built in the back of it. We're cutting the legs off of his current cage and placing it inside the large one to use as a litterbox of sorts since he has a big habit of pooing in 2-3 spots in large spaces. So yeah. How's it look? -picture is not to scale-
any ideas or already made plans to build a rabbit cage? i need to seperate the male and females, but i also need to put them together sometimes for breeding
Rabbit Hutch / Cage Plans? I am looking to find a nice indoor rabbit hutch/cage for a bunnie or two. I don't like the wire bottom kind, since it can hurt the bunnie's feet. So am looking for a nice one that I can build or buy that is not too expensive that has a nice solid floor and plenty of room for the bunnie(s) to move. Any info would be great with links. Thanks!
Where can i find a site to make my rabbit cage plan? I am going to make a bigger rabbit cage for my rabbit. I am going to design it and build it myself. I drew it down on paper, but i am such a bad drawer so nobody can tell what it is. Is there a web site that i can make the plan of it online? Like how they make 3D house plans. Anything would help! Thanks! P.S. The cage is going to be 3 stories high so it needs to be able to show that. Thanks!!!! :) Best answer gets 10 pts!!!!! Abby: I will let you know if i find out!!! :)
How often should you clean out a rabbit cage? i have 8 week old rabbit :) Lionhead rabbit and i was curious . i clean my hamster cage out 2 times a week how many times do i clean out rabbit cage i was planning on buying scooper and cleaning the poop out of the cage.

What type/kind of cage do you have for your rabbit? I'm planning on getting a rabbit but the cage I need to get is worrying me cas I have no idea what kind of cage to get so I was wondering what type of cage do you have for your rabbit and do your rabbit like it? And if you can it would be awesome if you post a link of your rabbits cage :)
What is a good plan for an outdoor rabbit cage? I need how to build it and what materials I will need. I would like it two stories but one would be fine.
Would this do for a temporary rabbit cage? I was going to go get a rabbit tomorrow. I had planned to go get the cage and rabbit, but the female rabbit got a hurt foot, so he's using that cage. I can still get (insert whatever name I use). Would a dog kennel (the black wire one) work for it. He's a mini rex and the kennel is big enough for a corgi..
Any designs or websites for building a rabbit cage? I have two rabbits.......I plan on getting one more.I need a cage that could hold two rabbits, not really big,but big enough for them to run around and play....also easy to clean...Thanks ALOT!! ~ rabbit lover~
If I was to build a rabbit cage out of wood, is this safe for the rabbit? I am planning on building a 2-3 story cage for a rabbit. I have heard that some types of wood are not good for a rabbit. Is there any wood that is safe? How can I prevent or discourage a rabbit from chewing the wood?
What material should I use to make an indoor rabbit hutch/cage? what type of wood is safe to use for an indoor rabbit hutch/cage? Is plywood safe? I have some awesome plans but i am not sure what is safe to use. there is a difference between plywood and particle board... im talking plywood...
I have a small dog kennel, would this work as a rabbit cage? I have a small dog kennel. It @ four feet long and three in width. It has a pan that is removable at the bottom. Would this work for a rabbit cage. I have read it would. I plan on litter training my rabbit. I will start with a small pan in the corner the rabitt chooses to go to the bathroom. I have read that the wire cages can be uncomfortable for a rabbit. Many suggest putting cardboard over the wire. Just wondered what some peoples opinions are
plans for 2 story wooden rabbits cage? Hey, looking for plans to build a rabbit cage out of wood, two story for them to go up and down, indoor cage. and help or links to plans would be greatly appreciated. thanks, warren
What do you use to line your rabbit cage, and why? Do you use a seperate litter box, if so what is in it? Do you have a seperate bedding area, if so what is in it? I have read a lot of different things about it, and I want to know what people use and why. I know some people say no woodchips, some say pine is ok. Or low dust. or whatever. I'm not really a fan of the woodchips. Right now I am using a cage that is entirely too small, but I didn't plan on ending up with three baby rabbits. I don't have a safe (dog proof/childproof) place for a larger cage until the basement reno is done (which will hopefully be in a few weeks) so I am wondering if should use more of a litter type product for the bottom. Right now I am using baby blankets, but they need to be changed everyday because of the poop, and I have enough laundry! I am hoping that if they are familiar with going litter then when they move to a larger cage they will go in a littler box with the same litter. Any personal experience is greatly appreciated. Pigglets, either the dog or toddler would kill the rabbits. One has to be reasonable, and while I could train the prey response out of my dog (eventually) I don't see how I can train a 1 year old to be gentle, all the time, every minute of every day. Or not pick up the bunnies by their ears/legs.
Can a old rabbit cage, be used for a chinchila? im thinking of getting a chinchila, and i was just wondering if i could use my old rabbit cage, it was like 3 times as long as my old rabbit (a couple inches less then a foot. the rabbit was like a medium sized rabbit.) can i use this old cage for my chinchilla? it was big enough for a rabbit that was bigger then the chinchilla, it has no floors but i was planning on having a hut and like bridge for it to play on, btw are they nocturnal?
Can I keep a rabbit in a cage with mice? I have a small mini rex rabbit, and I plan to get a couple of mice. I was wondering if I was able to keep them in the same cage if I make sure that the mice can't get out and I feed them separately? Thanks!
How do you raise homemade wire rabbit cages off of the ground? I am talking about the "commercial" style rabbitry ones, that are all wire including floor. Picture would be great. I can find all kinds of cage plans, just nothing that says how to raise them off of the ground.
Will Guinea Pigs be happy in a Rabbit Cage? I have a large Rabbit cage, which has a standard basin bottom, but the cover is mostly clear plastic on a slope, with the top being wire door that opens up. I am planning on getting two female guinea pigs after the summer, and I was hoping I could use the cage again for them, but I am worried because of the plastic siding. I know the guinea pigs love to climb up and gnaw on their cage wires a bit, so I am afraid the plastic will be harmful for them, or some how reduce their oxygen. Other than that, the cage is very long and wide, so they have plenty of running space, and it is easy to clean. Any ideas, suggestions? Should I bite the bullet and buy a geniune guinea pig cage, or will they be ok in this more enclosed cage? I will, of course, be giving them plenty of Floor and Lap time during the day, but I want to make them as comfortable and healthy as possible. The cage also has a water bottle attachment, so no worries there. For those of you pointing it out, yes, I've made sure that it's not a wire bottom. It's just a plastic basin with higher walls than a standard hamster/guinea pig cage, so, very easy to clean out the shavings and the like. Also comes with a corner litter box that can be removed. I normally made it into a cozy-style corner for my dwarf rabbit.
a DOG CRATE as a RABBIT cage? so i have a dog crate as a rabbit cage, and it seems really small? it is an XL dog crate but it's still pretty small... the dimensions are 48x30x33 inches. i mean with the litter box in there (a normal cat litter box, average sized) it seems kind of small? is there anything i can do to make the cage bigger? i plan to buy a dog pen and stuff but my room is REALLY small. and i doubt a dog pen will fit in my room -.-... i plan to let my rabbit out whenever i am home and only put him in the cage when im sleeping and at school. would a dog crate be sufficient for a small rabbit? like a dutch? or even a medium sized rabbit like a mini lop? i have two rabbits in mind. a dutch or a mini lop (the mini lop isnt neutered yet but will be neutered on tuesday and im gonna meet him on monday). i REALLY like the dutch (i've met him twice and he is super sweet and i LOVE him) but i already made plans with the foster mom to meet the lop on monday night and hey who knows, i might like the lop more? but i mean mini lops are kind of big... compared to dutches! so i dont really know.. i dont want to wait too long because everytime i decide on a rabbit i want to adopt the rabbit gets adopted the next day. no joke. this has happened around 5 times. i email the rescue about a rabbit and on petfinder the next day it shows that the rabbit has been adopted. but i didnt know that when i emailed the rescue. every. freaking. time. either that or the rabbit has problems and needs to be placed in an experienced bunny home. *sigh* but anyway, would a dog crate be okay for a rabbit like a dutch? thanks. btw i am adopting from a rescue
Best substrate for rabbit cage and litter tray? My new house rabbit will be coming to live with me in a few days time, and I plan to use a different substrate in the litter tray from the cage bottom so litter training will be easier. I plan to use carefresh in the litter tray, but what do you recommend from experience for the cage lining? I've already heard wood shavings are bad and don't plan to use them. Thanks :)
Can you house a tortise in a unused rabbit cage???? thanks everyone!!? hell I am planning on getting a tortoise or two. I have a rabbit cage that has never been used and i was wondering if it would be ok to put a tortoise in the cage? (It is really big, if that makes any difference) thanks yahoo answers!
How do I build a Rabbit Cage if I am 13? Alrighty, I am thirteen years old, and have owned plenty of rabbits in my years. Recently my 8 year old hare x rex passed away and her cage was turn into a garbage bin (pretty sad, I know). I waited a few months and decided to finally ask my dad, if perhaps I could add a new member the the family. He totally agrees, but his busy work schedule, he doesn't have the time to build me a pen, and due to the school year on its way, nor does he have the money to spare, with 7 kids running around. So, if I can build a cage, and pay for it myself, the bunny is mine. I need help finding out the best and cheapest materials, aswell as a simple cage plan. Thanks !
Building a rabbit cage? I might be making a rabbit cage, and I was wondering if tile is good for their feet. Thanks in advance! Best answer gets 10 points! And maybe some plans? thanks! Meaning plywood with vinyl tile on top.
Does anyone have plans for a good rabbit hutch system for winter? We have multiple rabbits. Each in individual cages. I want to put them in some sort of hutch system that they each can have their own bedding area and play area. I can't find a plan that I like yet.
rabbit not able to reach the top in some f the new cage. problem? I am planning a design for my rabbit for a c&c cage and in nearly all the areas of it he can stand up all the way without touching the top but in just a few areas he can touch the top will this be a problem considering he has 16 square cubed to stand up and just 6 cubes which he cant? Thanks.
can i have a bearded dragon in a rabbit cage? the cage is about the equivalent of a 50 gallon tank or bigger not sure would this work if i put in some kind of flooring and also im planning to put a baby in there not an adult
Would a dog crate be okay to use as a rabbit cage? The crate is 42L x 26W x 28H. I plan on putting a shelf in the cage for my bunny to jump on too. Also, my bunny isn't going to be in the cage all day either. She gets at least 4-6 hours a day to run freely around my room. :] Here is a link to the crate: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753753 Thanks.
ideas for making an indoor cage for a flemish giant rabbit? I'm planning on getting a flemish giant rabbit and would like to make a cage big enough for it to have plenty of room to move around while it's in the cage. I don't want to spend a lot of money but would like it to look decent and be sturdy and safe. Any suggestions?
I need some rabbit help(rabbit cage)? I already found what rabbit I want to get so that doesn't matter. It would be an outdoor rabbit (please no rude comments) and my neighbors have a puppy and an old golden retriever who is trained to kill rats and he almost killed a pomeranian. But I want to keep my rabbit safe (even thought they keep him in a cage) I am planning on getting a dog run with a roof on it. Do you think that would work? I would put the rabbit hutch inside and let the rabbit leave its cage as it wants but it would still be in the dog run. I would either get that or I would get a 48inch high fence. Do you think he could get over that if he got out and smelt my bunny? i already know alot about rabbits because i have had 3 so i know about food, grooming etc thanks! I wouldn't get a rabbit run I would get a dog run/ dog excersize pen like this one: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=dog+runs&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&rlz=1I7ADSA_en&prmd=ivns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1661&bih=695&wrapid=tlif130481278755110&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=2268111025549586925&sa=X&ei=Z97FTeeDLIeesQPn1eHqAQ&ved=0CJQBEPMCMAE#
I need to find a cheap rabbit cage in Northeast Iowa.? I need a cage that can hold 3 bunnies and I plan to breed them so a nice 1 story cage would be perfect! The cage needs to have 2 doors!!!
best place to place a rabbits cage? I'm planning on fostering a rabbit today from the shelter, and I was wondering if certain places in the house are better then others for placing the rabbit's cage? I have already bunny proofed my room where he will be able to run around for a few hours a day suprivised, and I was also wondering what kind of toys or treats do you give your rabbits? I've heard of getting cat toys with the little bells in them, and stuffing toilet paper rolls with hay.. any other ideas? thank you!
Rabbit Cage Size...? What is a good rule of thumb for getting or makeing a cage for a rabbit? So many feet per Lbs or total length in inches or what??? I plan to build a cage, and am trying to figure out what a good size would be for my rabbit so it is not cramped etc... All info and any web sites for info, easy designs etc. would be great! Thanks In Advance! I forgot to note, that this will be in doors, and I rather not have a wire floor for the set up since it hurts rabbit's feet and can hurt there nails etc... Another thing, is there any type of wood I should not make it from? (ie.. Pine, Cedar etc...?)
can rats be in rabbit cage? i was wondering if my two new rats i plan on getting will be able to sta in my old rabbit cage. the cage is completely clean and the bars are 3/4 of an inch apart?
How do you eliminate odors in rabbit cages? Hi there. I am thinking of getting a rabbit, but the smell is a prominent issue. I plan to clean the cage at least once a week. I have heard that things like odor absorbing blocks don't work... could someone give me a product name(s) and a review on it? Or a home technique? Thanks very much:)
rabbit cage problem! please help!!? I have been planning to get a rabbit, but I don't have 100 dollars to spend for a big cage, but I don't want to buy a little one cause the bunny will outgrow it soon. I have a dog cage that's just sitting in the garage but it's small. l-20 w-13 and height is 16 I know it's very small but I am getting a dwarf bunny and eventualy in a few months I will get a big cage, but for now is it okay or should I wait? I will spend a few hours a day letting it run around and eventualy it will have it's own room, I don't know if the rabbit will feel neglected and cramped and I would make it two stories please help!!!! sorry the cage is actualy 24by20 inches
rabbit cage cleaning? I am planning to get 2 baby Holland Lops in the future and I'm just wondering how often to clean the cage. Should it be once every 2 or 3 days or a week or more? I'm not sure yet but I think I might get a 3 level cage made just for rabbits and I might just use a fleece blanket once the bunnys are potty trained as the bedding since I can't use CareFreash or anything like that because It'll just fall out of the cage. Thank you so much!!!
should i use wooden frame or metallic REX to build my rabbit house?? i,m planning to build a rabbit cage by myself. im using small fence along. i,m stuck up whether i should use wooden frame or a rex(slotted angles)?? friends ple. help!!
Good idea for a rabbit cage/pen or no? I've been looking at indoor rabbit hutches and cages for about a week now, looking at different sizes, etc. One of my friends suggested this, and it sounds possible, I just have a question for someone who knows rabbit behavior. Basically, her idea was to take a wooden computer or TV stand/cart (something like this http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_9990000042044011P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3 but maybe bigger) and take off the back panel and take out the shelf. Now take chicken wire or whatever that wire is that they use in outdoor hutches normally and attach it to these two sides, and make a door through that. I'm sure we would have to somehow work this so that the shavings or bedding would not fall out, but it sounded pretty reasonable to me. The cage would also look more like a piece of furniture, not just an awkward cage (which is important to me because I live in a small apartment). My friend suggested it because her brother has a TV stand that is like this but wider, and I could get it cheaper than I could get a cage as well. Main question is if the rabbit would chew the wood? I plan to make sure it has branches and other things to chew on and play with, and a litter box in this area, but I want to make sure it won't chew the wood and the finish hurt it or something. Or let me know if you think of any other concerns.
Proper Rabbit Cage Set Up? Okay my cage is super small, so I getting a new one. The one one Im looking for is 40'' L 22'' D. Which in my opinion is a really good size for my rabbit. Shes a lion head, probably about 3-5 pounds. I'm planning on getting all new stuff. My question is what do rabbits need for a proper cage, do they need levels? I was planning on buying one. Do they need a bed? My rabbit gets a constant supply of food, do they need that or just feed them at certain times. I know they need salt. Whats the best bedding pine or cedar. I always use pine, I don't care for cedar because of my horses but I will use what ever is best for her. Add any other things you want. Thanks
what is the best fleece fabric to use in a rabbit cage? well I'm planning to build a C&C cage for my rabbit. and i did a little research on it on youtube and it seem like a lot of people uses fleece as the fabric for the cage. i know that there is a lot different fleece material out there so i just wanna know which one would be the right/best one to use. if i use that material in the cage for my rabbit to urinate, will it be okay? (cause my rabbit seem like he's not really that potty trained)
How to set up a rabbit cage? no mess? 10 POINTS? I know these sound like stupid questions, but im quite new to it all. Im setting up my rabbit cage for my new bunny, but i want it to be clean with no mess. Is there a way to feed my bunny hay without it going everywhere all over the cage? I was told by my vet that you should hay all over the bottom of the cage as bedding, but I feel like this would be wasting a lot of hay as my rabbit pees and poops everywhere... I plan on litter training him, but how would I set up the little tray so that when she jumps out the box, litter doesnt cling onto his body and fall off somewhere else? How are you supposed to feed your bunny hay? put it in a hay rack (i dont have one though)? Only in the litter box? Just put it everywhere and change it once a week? Anything else I should know would be great :) Thank youu
Can you let a guinea pig and a rabbit out of their cages to play with each other? I have a guinea pig who is about a year old and i am thinking about getting a rabbit. I plan on housing them in different cages but i was wondering if i could let them out to play together?
RABBIT QUESTION!!!~ should i add this to my rabbit cage?? EASY 10 POINTS!!!! THANKKKK YOU! =)? hey! What is goin' on? So anyway do you think it is a good idea to add a 24in. by 24in. play area thing with my cage? My cage is 40in. by 18in. and i plan to put a small 24in. by 24in. area and connect it to my cage! is this a good idea? What are some good ways to set up a rabbit cage!!?? (I have two!) dwarf's OH and my rabbits are both indoor bunnies!!! i will eventually litter box train them too! =) thnx
Rabbit cage & spaying? I have some general questions on rabbits and specific questions on standard rex? Any answers will help! I will be getting a standard rex in a few weeks and I have owned a mini rex in the past which I loved. I was just wondering if there is a huge difference in the mini vs. the standard? Some of the specific questions between the two: *My mini rex was a male and I plan on getting another male. My mini-rex was never spayed, but was great at being litter trained and never went anywhere else but his cage. Are standard rexes just as easy to train with or without spaying? (I plan on getting this one spayed either way due to health and humping problems.) *I know that minis are between 3-4.5 pounds while standard are 6-10 pounds but I can't find a picture to get a good idea of the actual size difference or a good picture that displays the size of the standard full grown. Does anyone have a good picture that would show off the size well? *I also plan on making a new cage that is larger for my standard. Any suggestions on how to make a cheap one with many floors would be helpful! I think I have the basic structure idea for what I want but I'm not sure what kind of flooring to use for 2nd and 3rd floors that is cheap. (I want to use storage cubs to make the frame work. They are like metal grids.) *How can I tell if a vet is actually good at spaying rabbits or is it pretty standard? Any other information in general or on the differences would be great! Thanks I really appreciate it!
Feeding Rabbit? Cage Setup? Im planning on getting a rabbit. I am getting a two floor rabbit hutch. Would a rabbit prefer to have a smaller food bowl with pellets and smaller water on each floor or a larger bowl and larger water on one floor?
IS THIS CAGE OKAY FOR A RABBIT? PLUS other rabbit questions?!? so im adopting a rabbit (: soon... my mom says its my birthday present cause my birthday IS ON SUNDAY!!! :OOOOO!!! IN LIKE... 4 DAYS!!! so i got the "rough draft" of the cage done, meaning i connected everything with the connectors and not cable ties, just so i could play with it and see which way was best. my mom said i couldn't make it 3 grids high like i planned /: ... its 4grids long, 2 grids wide and 2 grids high. i do plan on making it taller in the future. but for now i guess its okay. there is a "second" level. i mean its only 2x2 grids big because i wanted room for him to jump and not hurt himself. it looks pretty nice. but i have a few questions! 1) so i will be connecting the cage onto a piece of ply wood, and drilling holes in the plywood so i can zip tie the cage / grids onto the wood. normal right? okay well for the actual flooring. i was thinking of getting the roll vinyl? like where its in a huge roll and an employee has to cut out the piece you want? so i was thinking of making the vinyl the same size as the plywood, and then when its time to drill holes in the wood, i would also drill holes in the vinyl so when i zip tie everything together, i could also zip tie the vinyl together? would that work?... now that i think of it... it does seem awfully hard... but i dont think you can buy individual stick on vinyl floorings, right? i think you have to buy a whole box. which isnt a problem? its just expensive-ish. 2) for the wooden dowels i'll need; to support the "second level" what size do i need to get? i heard people say that a "1 by 2" is needed. but what does that mean? like 1" by 2"? so like the width is 1" and the "other width" is 2"? like on a rectangle? and the length would be around...29 or 30". is that correct? 3) for bedding, most people say fleece, but i heard that it gets smelly? could i just put fleece on the "second level" ? i guess i could make the second 'level' a sleep / play area.. but its sort of small for a play area... oh well i'll figure that out later,. are there any other alternatives ? i am building /built a NIC cage, so keep that in mind! 4) the rabbit i plan on adopting is around 5-6months and is getting neutered tomorrow and will be up for adoption on sunday or monday. i would love to adopt him even though i've never met him? but i did want to adopt another rabbit but he got adopted last saturday so yeah (fail lol). anyway, the rescue told me about this other rabbit who was also a dutch rabbit and is extremely sweet. but i am worried about the fact that he JUST got neutered and may be placed in a petco, or a foster home (like he was, but i doubt it), and so he might be aggressive because he is so stressed? should i pick this rabbit? thanks!
what size cage would i need to look after a mini lop rabbit? Im planning on buying a mini lop soon but i'm not sure on the size type of the cage i would need? Please help ASAP! I really want to prepare everything nice and homely!
Please help! How do you make a fairly large guinea pig cage!!? My cage is WAY to small right now and I plan to buy a cheap rabbit cage for them or make a hutch. (I have 2 guinea pigs) I want the cage/hutch to fit on a standard sized washer and dryer. Please can someone tell me how to make a fairly large cage for less then 80 dollars!!?? Or where to find a decent sized cage for a cheap price! (In Winnipeg) HELP!!! Anybody who gives a GREAT answer that really helps me will be chosen for best answer. :) I have 2 cats so I really need to have a lid!!!
What size should rabbit cage be for two Holland Lops? I know there are a lot of questions and answers already on here, but I think it bears repeating. I'm a college student. I live in an apartment and am away for about 9 hours of the day, but I have read that rabbits are fairly independent (if that is incorrect, someone correct me) so being alone shouldn't bother them. But because I am away, I was thinking about getting two sister rabbits (so they're already used to each other) so they would be companions. I will get them both spayed when they are old enough. The breed I'm thinking about getting is Holland Lops, because from what I've researched they are pretty laid back but have good personalities and are affectionate. My main question is what size cage to get two Holland Lops? I'm confused because most answers on here say bigger is better (and in my mind I agree but I also know I have limited space to use). But when you see rabbit breeders (professional breeders who are registered and have quality rabbits, not backyard breeders) they tend to have most of their rabbits in a 24x24 pen most of the time. So more importantly, WHY is a bigger cage so important? Does it make the animals healthier? Will they live longer. I'm sure they'll be happier (I plan on getting more space for myself soon which would result in more space for the rabbits, so they would get a bigger area in a year or so) but are there medical reasons to get a bigger cage? And also, suggestions on the size or type of cage to get would be awesome. The rabbits would be in the cage most of the day, but on the average day they would be let out (I am rabbit-proofing the entire room) to roam and exercise about 6 hours in the evenings, possibly some in the mornings as well. Thanks, I know it's a lot of details, but I hate it when people try to answer questions and don't know all the details so their answers are completely bogus. Hopefully somebody understands what I'm talking about.
Can 2 rabbits live together in one cage? I have 1 netherlands dwarf bunny that is a female. It is quite defensive.. but I am planning to get another rabbit so it would have a friend, I also plan to get a new cage for my bunny and the new bunny. could they live together? and can a dwarf bunny live with a normal bunny? can 2 dwarf bunnies which both of them is from the opposite sex live together? Thanks.
How big should a cage for a male bunny and male guineapig be? plz help... Thanx? I am getting ready to get a male guineapig and I already have a male rabbit, I am planning to make a cage for them. I am thinking a little over 2 by 3 and I just wanted to know if that is a good size. I need lots of answers and not mean, thnx
Large enough rabbit cage? I am constructing a rabbit cage by using those shelving grid things and I have limited space because I am keeping them in my bedroom vs. the living room where they used to stay because no one ever went in there. They've had a number of housing changes-one in a really small cage and then one in a wooden hutch- then both in the hutch-then both in a 30 X 30 cage (I think it was like 18'' tall maybe). The dimensions I have planned for the new set up is 45 X 30 X 30 (inches) (It has to be so tall cause I am not putting a top on it right now. Do you think is will be okay for 2 rabbits? You want me to seperate the rabbits? I had them seperated because we had one and then adopted another from rescue...I've worked hard to make them happy with each other and they have finally bonded! You want me to seperate them? Indoor rabbits and yeah they do get out of cage time but only supervised because we have cats and dogs and such. They are a lionhead and dutch so that is all I can tell you as far as size. At least an hour out each day (I am gone between 2 dif. houses a lot) and then when I am home all night I usually let them out in the evening for a few hours just to romp around. They are getting more lately then they used to because they were in the living room and no one went down there and it was too hard to secure it for them so I would have to bring them and a litterbox into the kitchen and then close it off which was obnoxious. Finally, I moved everything into my room so they are getting more exercise + getting more interaction with us and the other animals. Step by step i'm trying to make improvements for them! Aww (Joe H) your rabbit is a cutie!
How can I train my rabbit to poop in her cage? I believe it's possible to train a rabbit to only poop in their cage because my male rabbit hasn't pooped outside his cage for a long time. Unfortunately, I can't seem to train my female rabbit to poop in her cage. It seems like she will poop in different places in my room and she has started to poop in my male rabbits cage. My thoughts on the situation is that its possibly because she hasn't been spayed while my male rabbit has. It may also be that she is angry because she has to sit and lay in her poop because she doesn't have a pull out tray like my male rabbit has. I plan on spaying her and also getting her another cage but haven't been able to find one with the money that I can afford forking out for it but I was hoping maybe anyone has an idea on how to help her out to learn to only poop in her cage. Thanks!
What can I line my rabbit cage with? I have a large French Angora rabbit and because of his size he doesn't fit in any cage i can find. At the moment and to prevent sore hocks since i plan on showing him i have him in a large guinea pig cage. I tried putting a litter box in there full of carefresh bedding, but that got matted into his fur and it took forever to brush it out, so i tried newspaper, but he crumples it all into the corner to lay down. what can i line my rabbit cage with that wont get stuck in his fur and won't get him filthy by no absorbing anything?
Is it ok to keep my pet rabbit cage in my room? My pet Lionhead rabbit is very attractive due to his long beautiful mane and he is very friendly and he enjoys my attention. I have my rabbit in a medium size metal cage that is big enough for him to move around in. I plan to have all the sides covered with Plexiglas about 2 inches up so his stuff doesn't fall out the sides. I've had the rabbit now a little over 2 weeks. He's in the process of being litter trained. He spends about 2 hours out of his cage each day for exercise and play. He has been vaccinated, and he will be given a booster injection every year. My queston is would it be ok to keep him in my room?
Does anyone know about any very thorough meat rabbit raising articles? Preferrably ones with cage plans, because most seem to say "they are all over the internet" but I can't find them.
Russian Tortoise cage set-up question.? Hello yahoo answers. i will soon be getting a russian tortoise, my first! Actually my first reptile! =) I am super excited... anyway- I have a 3ft. by 2ft. brand new rabbit cage! I plan to get a tropical waterfall for sounds and decoration in the cage, some decoration (flowers), shallow water dish & food dish, tortoise safe substrate, UVA/UVB light, hidey house, a small ramp leading into a really big playpen/cage, timothy hay for digging, rocks to make it more.. you know, etc. -Is this a good setup for one russian tortoise?- thanks everyone The waterfall helps me go to sleep and it is pretty neat. i think my tortoise will like it!!
Redoing the Rabbit Cage....? So I am redoing my rabbit cage soon because I will be getting a new addition to the pair (going to seperate but have them side by side). I am planning to put the pen along one whole side of my wall using the grids but my problem is I am not sure what to put on the floor. I do know know where to get any of the cloroplast stuff and I need something that will make cleaning easy. I have carpetting in the room. Could I get a plywood and set it on the floor and get some cheap tiles to set on it? Then I would just be a be able to wipe it up right? I am not sure what to put and this is my biggest issue. Right now they are on a blanket and they chew it to shreds plus it isn't practical for cleaning and one of my rabbits isn't completely litter trained.
Will this cage be suitable for a pair of rats? I have just purchased a Nero 2 deluxe guinea pig cage, mainly for the size, but I'm planning on getting a pair of pet rats. I have just read another question about rat and hamster cages and someone said dont put rats in a rabbit cage coz they'll get out! Have I just made a bit of a boo-boo? http://www.bitsforpets.com/product_info.php?cPath+1_137&products_id=570
is cardboard and newspaper good rabbit bedding? im getting a holland lop pretty soon, but want to save money. is it possible to use newspapers and small pieces of cardboard as bedding in a rabbit cage? The newspaper and cardboard will both be ripped into small pieces, but not small enough for the bun to swallow. but will it be okay? (i do plan on cleaning the cage almost every day, and thoroughly cleaning it once a week.)
Can I use this cage for two guinea pigs? So I have one female now and am planning on getting another female if my parents let me. Would this cage be okay for two? I know it's a rabbit cage but I still think it'd work. I'd get the bigger version. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751752 Thanks for your help!
I have to leave my rabbit outside, but there are wild cats will they attack my rabbit? well actually i found a domestic rabbit and planning to return it to its owner but mean while my parents wont let it in the house. so its outside i dont have a cage or anytning but its in a place where it cant escape..there are wild cats roaming around my house every night will they attack the rabbit.
Are pet rabbits always smelly? Can I keep a rabbit in my room? I hear rabbits are smelly. I'm planning to get one, obvious I'll be taking care and cleaning its cage like everyday. But can't you also litterbox train it? And would I need some air freshner or something to keep in my room to keep away a smell or it's inevitable? Does the smell come from the rabbit or the cage.
Rabbit Hutch Building Plans? A friend is giving me a home made, outdoor bird cage because she no longer has birds and has no need of it anymore. I plan to renovate it into a 3 level hutch for my rabbit. It has a wood frame, and is wrapped in wire. The bottom of the cage is sturdy enough to hold my rabbit and not let him fall through and break the wire. My only question is how to build the shelves. I am going to make 2-3 levels of the cage, but am not sure how to make the levels. I want to make them out of wood, but I'm not sure how to make it waterproof so it doesn't absorb his pee. I had the idea of using the sticky bottomed linoleum tiles, because I have alot left over. Would that work, or would I need to use a special paint? Also, what are some good ways to attach the shelves to the wire sides?
How do i Keep a garage rabbit warm? Answer Please? I will be getting a lionhead rabbit. I plan to be keeping it in the cage in a garage. I dont live in any warm state. I live in illinois. The winters are harsh. My garage get pretty cold. It could drop down to 20F in there. How can i keeep a rabbit warm? I have a broken heating pad that only works on low, should i use that?
Looking for rabbit cages accessories? Does anyone know where I can find wire risers that go in solid bottom rabbit cages? A lot of people that raise Angoras put them in solid bottom cages at shows to keep shavings and feces out of their wool. I raise Jersey Woolies and I am not sure where to find them. I am planning on going to ARBA convention this fall. Websites would be great!
what kind of indoor cage is good for a rabbit? i dont have one yet just planning too
Should I get my rabbit a new cage? Do you think i should get my rabbit a new cage. Its wire floored and the bottems of her back feet are a little red. shes 6 years old and im not sure how much longer she will live. after she passes we plan on getting another rabbit but i think i should get her another hutch or somthing with out a wire bottem or somthing where she could get off her feet w/o having to lay on wire again making her feel uncomfy. What do you think? and what should i get for her? what is the best type of flooring to add to the cage? and what will keep her healthy for years to come (hopefully)

Bunny cage? I want a good building plan for a rabbit cage. I want it to have 2 floors, and some shelves and also a ramp. Any plans? Here are some awesome ones... - http://www.attwoodaquatics.com/images/BarkyAndHutchRHW2009M-U36.gif http://images.andale.com/f2/105/107/18920724/2006/11/11/LB_309_ANDY_GABLED_HUTCH_RUN_002.jpg
Getting a Rabbit, and need a decent cage..? Ok I'm planning on getting a rabbit, but I'm struggling to find a decent sized cage(it'll be kept indoors). I have between £30-£50 for a cage, does anyone know any places that sell good cages within my budget? I live in Edinburgh, Scotland so if it's ordering online, I'd rather do it with UK companies. I've also tried ebay, but there isn't really anything that I can see just now that I'd be happy with. Thanks I appreciate any help.
Going to get a rabbit? Is this cage ok? (pic)? would this cage be okay if i added like a second row of grids to the top to keep her in? plus eventually i plan on adding a deck to it. what do you think? http://www.guineapigcages.com/buycc.htm I was going to get either the large or the medium. the rabbit is approximately 50 dollars not including vet fees so i need to save some money. and yes cost is an issue. well the cage is pretty big already, and i'm kinda tight on money right now especially if i'm getting a rabbit. the cage is 5 feet by 2 feet and she's a little girl, its a holland lop and she would get out a lot.
What cage should I get for my Netherland Dwarf rabbit? I have been looking for a good cage for my rabbit but I haven't found anything. I like outdoor hutches even though I plan on keeping him inside just because they look nicer. Does anyone have a recommendation, preferably under $150 and not huge? Is this a good one? http://www.cagesdirect.com/ware-rabbitat-hutch-large-p-474.html I am going to put in a mat and some other things so that the rabbit can get off the wire but thanks for the tip.
How much exercise for rabbit out of cage daily? I have a 2 month old New Zealand White Bunny in a 48" X 60'' Cage. How much time out of the cage will she NEED daily.I Do plan to let her out for most of the day and only in it while im a sleep(5hours) or while im gone some where no more than 2hrs,After she has been litter/house trained..Do they need to be out doors ever? I don't think its safe out side here.We have 8 stray cats, and 5 stray dogs run loose all day,but I do plan to harness train her and let her out when I go for my walk(30min-1hr)Would that be enough outside time daily? Will the time out of cage for exercise/Outdoor change as she gets older or not? Thanks in advanced Sorry its kind of long Just want to make sure I know everything I can. Also I just got her so is there anything I can give/do to make her feel more safe here. She is in a farily clam room. I have a toy for her to hide in but she still seems a little nervous.
Is this an okay cage for a large breed rabbit? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3307+10627+38+15280&pcatid=15280 Follow the link. I'm planning on buying a baby English Lop Rabbit and I want to know if this cage would be big enough and appropriate enough for a rabbit. I know, I know, it's a dog crate. But I know people who use dog crates with their rabbits so I don't think this would be much of an issue. Please feed me your advice.
Does rabbit stink your house up? I'm planning on getting a rabbit but my mom keeps saying that they stink really bad; it'll stink up the whole house..... i mean like wouldn't it be fine as long as i keep the cage clean. Can i give the rabbit a shower?
Could you put female rabbits in the same cage as eachother? i m getting 6 rabbits 3 male and 3 female.. could i put the females together? and im planning to get my 2 oldest rabbits and planning to make them breed and also jst anoyother tips?
All fellow rabbit owners or was owners? PLEASE HELP AND DON'T IGNORE THIS BECAUSE I REALLY NEED HELP. thanks.. Okay, So I want a rabbit outside. (please no comments on my idea of outside) I don't want a predator to be able to get in, the rabbit digging its way out, and the rabbit jumping out, and I want to be able to hold the rabbit and the rabbit cannot run off o.O.. So This is my plan, I get one normal rabbit cage, and then a pen around it so when I want to hold it I can hold it in there and no escaping and when I let it run around in there i will be able to watch for predators and it will have a roof and be under a deck. When its cold, it will be in a nice, cleaned out storm pit. I have plenty of time for it and we grill outside 5 times a week for dinner so It will be able to be with the family. Is this a good plan?? When it's really hot i will freeze bottles of water and let the rabbit lay by it. and more.
is it ok for a ferret to live in a large 5 - 6ft rabbit hutch? im getting two ferrets in a few months time and im planning on keeping them outside in a large, two storey, wooden rabbit hutch. would this be ok? bearing in mind that i live in the UK so its obviously not as hot as the USA climate (although it probably is today!) i will have a spare cage to bring them in during the day if the weather gets to hot, although my landlord won't allow them in the house all the time. Is there anyone who keeps there ferrets outside, in a large rabbit hutch, in the UK? any advice? tips?
Rabbit Question? Typically, how much would a safe and sturdy rabbit cage cost? How big should it be if I plan on getting 1 or 2 rabbits? Where could I get one? Is there anything else that I should know?
What rabbit breed should I get? I can spend up to $3000 on him (for purchasing!) and I plan to buy him a gigantic cage from one of those cage buying websites. I want the breed to be slightly popular so I can have an easy time finding him. Also, the rabbit can be no less than 6lbs and no more than 25lbs. Thanks!
I am getting a baby rabbit next weekend, is this all i need...? I am planning on getting: -cage -2bowls food and water -bedding -toys -and hay Do I need anything else???? OF COURSE FOOD!!!!!!! So sorry everyone i assumed that everyone would think it obvious to get food. I will get a water bottle I am getting a rabbit from a person i know
My rabbit is biting the cage constantly? I bought a young bunny a while ago.. i kept her in the cage for a few weeks then i started letting her out 1-3 hours everyday like the instructional guide said..now it turns out that she become destructional for the rest of the day when i put her back into the cage. she bites the cage constantly and throws her litterbox and food around...it looks like she wants to get out more..but i already let her out few hours per day and i do not plan on letting her out for more hours unsupervised.. can anyone tell me what is going on? or what can i do to stop this behavior.
What age can a rabbit get pregnant? Not when should i breed them, what is the youngest age they can get pregnant. Just i have 2 rabbits, the female is only 6 weeks old, i keep them in different cages but i let them out supervised together. Im not planning on babies lol
how much are rabbit cages??? I am planning on buying a bunny and i want it to live in my room and people say that its not good. So when im not able to supervise it im going to put it in its cage. Im just in a low budget and can't really afford one. Anyone know any cheep cages or anything else besides a cage to keep it from being unsafe? Well i made my room rabbit proof hiding every electrical cord in my closet locked up. I just need a rabbit in case i need it to bring it somewhere. please where is the cheapest cage. and if u have a picture of it it would be nice thank you very much!!!! no rude comments pretty plz x]
Should i get a rabbit at los angeles, chinatown? (read descriptions)? i been there many times and im thinking about getting a rabbit. i already bought a rabbit cage and 3 giant bags of pellets, i still need timothy hay but i plan to buy it when i buy the rabbit. anyways, people think the pet store in china town is dirty and stuff. I called couple minutes ago and asked some some questions. like if they had shots or anything. they said no and i said what if they have rabies or diseases, they said no and they said that the rabbits were raised in a farm so they say their healthy. since their pretty much like any other rabbits, and their not wild, should i get 'em? please, if anyone know anything else about them plz tell me! i might get them this saturday or monday. cuz theres no more. thx x] (their not neutered) i might save enough money to get them when their old enough which is probably 4 to 6 or 8 months,.......right? lol
Introducing a neutered male rabbit to female rabbit. ? I have a male rabbit one year old and I'm hoping to introduce it to a female rabbit about 2 years old. Is it possible to introduce them so they can live together in bunny harmony? I am getting my male bunny castrated well before i introduce them so we don't have any 'surprises' haha! but the female wont be getting neutered. plus my bunny has a sweet, curious and non violent nature about him but the female can be grumpy and shy .. typical female rabbit to be honest ! it depends how shes feeling ... sometimes she can be a bit of a biter and very shy but sometimes shes really sweet and outgoing my rabbit is not a biter at all and very sociable , perhaps too much ! . Also this worries me that she is aggresive , I do not want my bunny turning into a bad mooded bunny or making the female moodier !How can I introduce them without fighting? with minimum upset to either rabbit? I plan to keep them together in a very large cage eventually as house rabbits any help would be great.
Would this cage be big enough for 2 average sized rabbits? The one in this picture seems pretty close in size to the one I have: http://images.craigslist.org/1171fb121ZZZZZZZZZ89p1265a15e3ec71a40.jpg EXCEPT mine also has a little "shelf" on one end that they can go on to lay on, or lay underneath it. Also, my rabbits (the one I have already, and the one I plan on getting) are nowhere near as huge as that one rabbit in the pic. Much more like the smaller, medium sized one.
Rabbit Vaccinations..? Ok I'm trying to get my parents to let me get a rabbit. But they're dead set against it. I'm doing my homework on them, to see how to look after them and all the costs so I can go back to them with all the information to try and change their minds. If they change their minds, I plan on saving up and getting the money together myself so I can pay for the rabbit, cage etc. I live in Scotland, and I was wondering if anyone knew how much the vaccinations generally cost? And how much does it generally cost to get them neutered?(Preferably a male as I hear male rabbits make better pets) If I was to get one, the rabbit would probably be indoors. Thanks I appreciate any answers.
Where can I buy a big rat cage? I am planning on buying 2 female rats. At first I was considering buying a $150 cage that was 4 stories, but then my mom gave me a better idea. Buy a gigantic one story cage that they can run around and play in! More stories means more levels to clean and it's harder to reach them through doors but with a normal cage you can just take the top off and grab them. I am looking for a wired cage. Aquariums give rats poor ventilation. Also, the wiring at the bottom of the cage needs to be 1/2" so their nails won't get caught or it needs to be wire mesh. Something like a big rabbit cage would be good, except the gaps between the wiring is too big... Help?
Rabbit Question : Which hutch is suitable for two rabbits? Hi, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on me buying cages for two rabbits i'm planning to adopt soon ;] , so i just need to know which of these hutches is big enough for two ! http://www.buyonlinepetshop.co.uk/double-rabbit--guinea-pig-hutch-136-x-49-x-99-cm-1081-p.asp or http://www.buyonlinepetshop.co.uk/rabbit--guinea-pig-hutch-152-x-61-x-91-cm-1080-p.asp Thanks, much help would be appreciated ! Yeah the Rabbits are bonded already, i know it's probably going to be harder to clean but it is so difficult looking for a indoor cage that's big enough for two rabbits :( What about if i used a wire crate (for indoors) like this one : http://www.flickr.com/photos/sunsealou/708723616/ is that okay?
Could someone answer a few questions concerning my new rabbit? About a week ago my sister and I noticed a black and white rabbit hanging around our backyard. One day while picking vegetables from the garden, the rabbit hopped up to my sister. We thought that it was obviously domestic because of it's color and behavior so we put it in our old guinea pig's cage until we found the owner. We asked around the neighborhood and someone said they had seen the rabbit around for over a week. After trying to find the owner for quite some time, we finally gave up and decided to keep it. My first concern is that we have no idea how old our rabbit is. It's a dutch rabbit that seems to be full grown, if not maybe a little smaller. It weighs about 3 pounds (it was off on its own for a while and probably lost weight since it was only eating greens.) I heard somewhere that you can sort of tell by looking at how many blood vessels are in the ears. It looks like there are hardly any. It is quite lazy during the day and very hyper in the evening. My guess is that its around one years old but it could be younger or way older. What would you say? Secondly, we aren't positive on it's sex. I'm pretty sure its a girl though. We checked her bottom and there wasn't anything popping out. Also it seems she has a flap under her chin (dewlap) which are suppose to only be present with girls. Is she for sure a girl? Also, we found a bump on her neck that was very strange looking. Turns out that it was a tick. We removed the tick with tweasers and washed the area with soap and water. Now there is a little bump there that seems to be a scab. Is she at risk for infection or disease? We are pretty positive it wasn't a deer tick. We're still using our guinea pig's cage, which is 24 by 24 inches. We keep the door open at all times since the cage is in our screen porch. Since she is sleepy during the day she almost never gets out, but she still has the option. At night we keep the door shut and we're worried she needs more space but don't want to keep the door open since she may poop and pee everywhere. Is all of this okay? We started out using newspaper bedding but she kept ripping it up. We're keeping the bottom bare until she is litter box trained. Once she is potty trained we are going to put a square of carpet or fake grass in there. Is this plan okay? Litter box training. We are using a shoe box top for now but will eventually upgrade to a real litter box. We put our hamster's care fresh bedding at the bottom and clean it out every 2 days. She's been peeing in the box for 2 days now without any accidents and will from time to time use it to poop. Most of her poop is everywhere else in the cage. We put all of the poop into the litterbox and try to show her that she needs to poop in there. We have a rack of timothy by the box but it isn't helping too much. Any help? Our rabbit eats A LOT. She'll go through a little more than half a cup easily everyday and want more. If we keep filling the bowl it seems like she'll eat more than a cup. We are afraid to give her more because we don't want her to get really fat. Should we keep limiting her food to half a cup? She prefers drinking from a bowl rather than a water bottle. Is this fine? Also, we fill her 3 inch wide 3.5 inch bowl 2-4 times a day. Is she drinking the right amount? It almost seems like too much compared to how much our large guinea pig use to drink. If our rabbit is a girl should we get her fixed? I read that female rabbits almost always get uterine cancer if they aren't fixed. I also heard it makes them nicer and easier to potty train. Our cousins rabbit got fixed and she ended up dying a week later. Even though the success rate is extremely high we are still concerned. Also how much to get this done? Any other advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. I know the best way to get these questions answered are to take it to a vet but we don't want to spend the money. So please don't say "take it to a vet." Thanks!
Is a Rabbit good for me? I really want a rabbit but everyone keeps telling me that it smells and that it pees everywhere even when you pick it up. I was planning to play with it etc but there is a problem. In September I'll start school again and I'm afraid that it will be lonley. Last thing is that my parents won't let me keep it inside that's ok coz we have a small garden were we can put the cage but the problem is that in Malta (where I live), the climate is very hot especially in summer. Will this effect my rabbit? and most of all is it worthed for me to buy one?
What breed of rabbit is right for me? I am getting a rabbit(s) soon but have no idea what to get. I want one thats relativley small, friendly (I will spend tons of time with it), and one that doesnt bit alot. What do you suggest? Also, I'm planning on getting the Living World XL Rabbit Resort and its a 4 foot by 2 foot cage. Is this big enough? And the breed of rbiit that you suggest, can it live alone or is it better to get 2? If you suggest 2, will the cage be big enough? ANY information on rabbits in MUCH appreciated. Thanks alot!!

Would This be okay for a rabbit? Help! Rabbit Owners? Im planning on getting a rabbit in a few days from petland. I need to know what Im going to need to get for her/him. I was planning on keeping it in my room w/ litter box and it could just hop around, etc. There would be no safety hazards, and no other animals could get in the room. Or if it came down to it i would baby gate her/him in the bathroom while Im gone. I just wouldnt want to leave him in a cage all day as i would be gone from 8 AM to 3 PM. My mom would be there to feed/play etc with him/her though. Is this a good idea? Also what does a rabbit need besides food, litter box, etc. Please be very specific. Thanks! Tips are great too! One more question. What kind of fruits and veggies can a rabbit eat? and what kinds are NOT safe for a rabbit to eat.

How does the following paragraph flow while reading it??? No wonder they both had slept so soundly all the way through this flight. Poor kids. The last few weeks had been a whirlwind of activities and planning, packing and preparing. Even Legalo's rabbits were now in the care of their neighbour, Mr.Jones who had told the boy that since he had a lot of caged birds to look after in his own home, rabbits wouldn’t pose a problem for him. Between the two of them a long and drawn-out conversation had followed, there, standing in the back yard. It had truly been a kodak-moment. Legalo had lifted feed dishes out of the cage, had pointed to what food was to be served in what dish. How store-bought food could not be mixed in with table scraps. And how much the bunnies liked clean water. Carefully considerate tales the neighbour had flown past Legalo, about how fussy birds could be and how much better they sang once the cages had been cleaned, had been convincing enough for the serious rabbit owner to leave the care of his critters into neighbourly hand
My little rabbit? Tonight, I woke up to my little rabbit (not quite six months yet, I believe) having a very loud seizure. He ran into his wodden hut in his cage, flopped on his side, and started seizuring. Figuring he was dying, I wanted to make him the most comfortable, so I wrapped him in an old pajama top and held him, talking to him. He stopped seizuring, calmed, and cuddled to me, but he wouldn't eat or drink. About two hours later, he finally had some food and a little water. I carried him around with me when I had to to places, cuddled close to my side, and just as I began writing this post, he was up and walking, checking out my bed. Then he began running in circles very, very fast, flopped down, and seizured again. I don't have the money for a vet right now...do you guys think there's anything I can do to make him better? Or should I just plan on making him most comfortable in the final hours?
rabbit spraying...only for breeders to answer.? I am planning on starting up my own rabbitry. I have been doing a lot of researching on genetics, owning a rabbitry, breeding, etc. But I haven't found anything that talks about how the buck and doe are going to spray. I understand that they will spray as they will be used for breeding purposes (holland lops if it matters). I can purchase urine gaurds to help with this but what I want to know is how often (bad) is spraying ...am I going to open a cage and find...an appalling/digusting/smelly mess? Or is it just here and there that they will do this? Is there a way to suppress or control this natural occurance. What do I do if he/she sprays outside the cage...could I at least train my rabbits to spray in the cage? It will be indoors that I raise my rabbits so I want to what I may be working with. How do you handle this situation? Also, as far as nesting boxes..do you prefer metal or wood and why?
Anyone own/use to own a Holland Lop Rabbit? Easy points for you!? I'm considering getting a rabbit; specifically, a 6 month - 2 year old neutered Holland Lop male. =) Honestly, how good of pets are they? I'm looking for a bunny who is generally very relaxed and won't mind being pet; or at least, a rabbit who isn't extremely hyper-crazy. I'm also looking for a bunny to be friendly and fairly easy to train. However, are there any things I should know about rabbits or the Holland Lop in general? How much exercise do they need (I plan on providing a minimum of 1-2 hours outside the cage EVERY day)? How is there grooming? Do they like people? Are they fun? Easy to care for? Do they like other animals, such as dogs? All the help I can get would be MUCH appreciated. Share with me your bunny or Holland Lop experiences! Thank you! I'm pretty determined to make the rabbit a rescue so I can give a bunny a second chance. What is your experience with rescued rabbits?
My rabbit had babies!!!!!!!!? OMG!!!!!!! I had no idea she was pregnant. We have a male but they were only together once we were sure she wasn't pregnant she showed no signs of it. We were planning on getting her spayed really soon we were going to set up an apointment. Tonight we went to go feed her and there were 5 babies in her cage on the wire floor all alive. We quickly put a towel in a box with hay and put them in it and put them in her cage. We fed the mom and are now leaving them alone for now but we are worried she wont feed them or she won't be a good mother. She is 8 months old and the male is 10 months old she is a dutch and he is a holland lop. Since they are mixed breeds are there more risks and is there a good chance they will live? I really need some tips and advice to help my sweetie rabbit and her babies. Please dont judge me for leting them together it was an accident.
im going to get another rabbit...? Hi, I have had one rabbit and he has died recently. :( anyway, i have passed on, and i want to get a new one by febuary. Im getting a mini satin, and one thing i noticed about my previous rabbit is that I dont think i gave him enough attention and i plan on NOT making this mistake again (that is NOT how my previous rabbit died) im in not in my house from 6:30am-3:00pm and i want to keep him entertained and happy while im not at home. Im thinking about getting a VERY large cage for him. a 5 foot long cage. 1"8 in tall. will this help? And what should i do with him when i get home? let him hop around my house? thx
Chinchilla/rabbit dilema...? Okay, so I can't decide whether to get a rabbit or chinchilla. Can you guys answer some questions, to help me decide? Rabbit related: 1. Do they need another rabbit to be happy? 2. I live in Southern PA & I want to adopt a Holland Lop but my parents aren't willing to drive more than like 15 miles to pick up my bunny. There aren't any shelters in the area with a holland lop or any type of lop for that matter. No breeders either. (I looked on Petfinder and ARBA) SHould I just buy from Petco. And will they still have babies available this late in the season? Chinilla related: 1. Will it be unhappy if it doesn't have a chinchilla companion? 2. Can they be litterbox trained? 3. I have a 39 x 21 x 19" cage to put a litterbox, water, food, and a bed-type thing in, but I'm planning on chinny-proofing my bedroom and giving him/her run of it. Is that okay? Thanks in advance for responses. :]
Which of these cages are the best for a small rabbit? Hi, I plan on getting a small rabbit ( probably english spot, havana, speices like that), and I what to know what cage would be the best for one. I'm able to have them out when I get home from school, before school and on the weekends I can give time to have her/him out and about, and I dont know what cage would fit it's needs. And, I dont know whether a cage or huitch would be the best. My last bunny ( who was eaten by a dog *tear*) was in a hutch my dad made. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753256 http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754687 http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3074864 http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752707 http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752682 Yea, sorry for overwhelming you with links :D If you have any suggestions or comments, please post. Also, please post your responses to the cages, and please tell me which you like ( and why) and which you dont. Yea, I understand your answer, right now I have 2 male guinea pigs in a C&C Cage, but I dont know if a C&C cage ( and what size) would be suitable.
Rabbit lovers, vets....? omgsh, you all must be getting annoyed at all my questions reguarding rabbits! If you are new to my questions I will briefly explain...... I want a pet rabbit (of my own) but my parents don't want to let me get one. They say that I can't have one in the house (which I would want they live much longer, healthier lives that way), or with a dog. They argue that rabbits are expensive (which I understand) and that they smell. The plan- I am leaving to go on spring vacation with my sister in one week. When I leave I am going to leave a packet of information that I have gathered over the last 6 or 7 months explaing what I know about rabbits and why I want one. The packet consists of two letters, a paper explaining how a day with my rabbit would go (so they know that he will not sit in a cage all day), a paper camparing and contrasting litters, a list of fruits and vegetables that rabbits can eat, and adoptable rabbits from petfinder.com. Also I told them about www.rabbit.org. Finally, my questions.... I want to know if I can bring a rabbit with me to college (when I go in like 4 years) and if most apartments let you have pets such as rabbits? What kind of cage is best (wire of pastic)? Where to by large cages? How do I introduce a territorial (yet, well trained) dog to a rabbit? I know I will have to have my rabbit altered. Are pet store rabbits really that terrible? My parents wont want to drive to a sanctuary. How much do vet bills cost? Any other suggestions on how to convince my parents to allow me to get one? Just help in any way you can, please.

Please help! Will this cage work for my two bunnies? Hi! I was wondering if this cage would be nice for a really big rabbit and one tiny baby bunny? It's actually a cage for ferrets, so I wasn't sure if it would be okay for rabbits/bunnies. Please help, I plan to get a new cage tonight. Thanks!! :) http://www.petco.com/product/104532/Marshall-Folding-Ferret-Mansion.aspx
Question regarding a rabbit? I would really like to get a rabbit (possibly two) in the spring. I've had a rabbit before, but she died last April. I really enjoyed her and it wasn't a problem to take care of her, but we just never got another one when she died. I'm tallying everything that I'll need to start, because I'm planning on paying for the rabbit myself this time around. I never payed attention to prices with my old rabbit because my parent's payed for her. (We got her and the cage for free from my friend when she moved, but have given her the cage back so she could get another rabbit.) My dad and grandpa have volounteered to help me build a cage, and we have pretty much all the wood we need, so that is not an issue. How much on average do you spend on food per month? I would probably buy a huge bag from the local feed store, because it's much cheaper and of the same quality as name-brand feed at say PetsMart. Anything else you want to add is appriciated. *Remember I have had a rabbit before! Thanks everyone, for all the answers so far. I will clip it's nails. :) I am studying to be a vet, so I can do most of the basic checkup type stuff myself, and my cousin is a liscensed vet and did all the vet work for my other rabbit for free. She will also do the spay/neuter for cheap. Thanks again for all the good answers. cmmcent: I'm not saying I know everything by any means, I'm just saying that because I didn't want anyone telling me to research about rabbits before I decide to buy one, or anything basic about them because it would be a waste of their time and mine. My rabbit was about 6 or so years old (we never knew for sure). A neighbor kid was holding her and dropped (she kicked) her, and she was hit by a tractor. And yes I know this for sure, my brother and friend were with him.
OK cage for (Syrian) hamster? hi, I was wondering if anyone had opinions about this cage. I was planning on using it for a Syrian hamster: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441779171&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302047888&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023695&bmUID=1187548957454&itemNo=0&Ntt=my+first+home+for+small+pets&In=Small+Pet&previousText=my+first+home+for+small+pets&N=2023695 I just gave this link for the picture.. I would actually get the "medium" size cage somewhere else. (PetSmart only has the large.) It's meant for guinea pigs and dwarf rabbits but it's 24" x 12" which I think would make a good size for a hamster. I'm just kinda worried about the plastic base.. do you think a hamster would chew through it? Has anyone ever used this cage? Or has any thoughts about it? Thank you. Thank you, yes it says the bars have 1/2" spacings between them, that should be fine for a syrian shouldn't it? Thanks for the link gerbil lover, I did look at that cage before, but I read the reviews and many people said it was too small for their hamster. I was hoping for a little bigger one. (Plus, where I was going to get the cage I showed, it's a lot cheaper.) Hannroy, how did your hamster escape?? I would think that the bars are plenty close enough together. Or are the wires very easy to bend?
Introducing my house rabbit to outside? My rabbit's around 9months old. He lives in my room with me an dis a very happy, funny, clean bunny. He's a pretty good room mate except for the cable nibbling attampts and the book eating problem. I'm thinking that I'd like to introduce him to the outside more. He doesnt like being held so I dont take him outside much, there are dogs outside too so I worry about that. I plan to make a special big adventure cage/run pen /digging play area for him and slowly introduce him outside. My main worry is that he's used to living inside with me and I worry he will hate to be outside alone in a completely different environment. In the next year or two I will be leaving the country. while Im sure someone will take him in, I dont think they'll be so toterant of him being inside so Im anxious to introduce him now so it wont be such a trauma..me leaving..big change..and environment change. I love my bunny so much. I want him to be happy. Do you think he'll learn to love it outside?
Aquarium or cage? hey i'm planning on buying a rabbit... whats better to use for its home, an aquarium or a cage...?
Starter cage size for a parakeet? I've read a lot of places that tell you a lot of minimum sizes. The strangest I've heard was 11x11 which I really would not do. But starting off, and keeping it there temporarily, would a 16x16 by enough room for a parakeet to open its wings and turn? I plan on spending a lot of time with it out of the cage, but I like to start off with something affordable and minimal while I save for a larger cage. I did this for my rabbit and rats and now they have gigantic cages. :]
Tips for a first-time rabbit owner? I am adopting an 8 month old female mini rex next week and have done plenty of research on caring for her, but I was wondering if anyone has any good advice or things to look out for that I might not have read about. I'm not breeding or showing her, just keeping her as a pet. I'm planning on getting the following supplies to start out: a cage (approx. 24 by 24), a small kitty litter box and litter, a food dish, food pellets and fresh veggies, a water bottle, some cat toys from the previous owner, wooden blocks for chewing, a nail clipper, and a shoebox for her to sleep in. Am I missing anything important? Thanks!
