How do I stabilize the tunnel and accessory rooms for our Crittertrail hamster cage? When we connected the expansion packs to our cage, they just flop to the side- they won't stand upright as it shows on the packaging. How do I go about building a homemade hamster cage with a tiny budget? Right now, my hamster has a cage which is big, but I think she would like a little more room to run around in, and I'm in need of a weekend project! I'm only 13, but my dad can cut plywood and stuff. I only have a budget of about $20, so it needs to be something that's not that expensive. It needs to be cleanable, rather large (I'm thinking a 3 foot by 3 foot cage) and something that won't fall apart. We don't have any wire, but if you know of somewhere I could get ahold of some wire for my cage for cheap, that would be great. It also needs to be somewhat sturdy, so it can hold a wheel and possibly a food/water accessory. And make sure the instructions are easy to follow, I'm not the brightest egg in the dozen. Thanks! It also needs to be pretty safe so that she won't escape, we might keep her in the basement with that large of a cage, and there's rat poison in our basement. Hamster Cage Hunt, can you help? I bought a 5 week old Syrian hamster not 2 weeks ago(that's him in the pic). He is quite skittish and adores tubes. But the thing is, he stays in his tubes so much, that I removed the 3 foot long tube connecting his two cages. He is living in one cage with the least amount of tube (he has a wheel, a nesting box, food and water all there). I need help finding a cage for him that will resolve both are problems. There are some exceptions though: 1. It CANNOT have tubes 2. He is going to grow big for a Syrian and the cage must be big 3. Even though young, he can escape almost anything 4. Try to have the least amount of bars you can (he has a chewing problem with wire)There are some things you can work off of: 1. I have enough money to buy a $100 cage, or a little over 2. I already have a wheel that works in all kind of cages, a water bottle with the same qualities, and a mountain of cage accessories. 3. How to set up a hamster cage? I have a 2.5 gallon fish tank that I have thoroughly cleaned, and I want to make into a habitat for a Syrian hamster. Disinfecting hamster cage? I bought a hamster on Monday night and she died of wet-tail today. Before you judge me I have 2 one year old hamsters who are perfectly healthy, loved and spoiled, 2 cockatiels who have every toy ever made and 2 bearded dragons who eat better than we do! ALL of my animals are healthy and VERY well taken care of. The hamster that I bought on Monday had wet-tail before I ever purchased her but she had 0 to minimal symptoms which made it very hard to tell. She was still very active and was eating and drinking like normal, had one small case of diahrrea but I thought it was just from the transition from their food to our food. Anyway, I am devestated and can't stop crying but I need to disinfect her cage and accessories because I have other animals in my home and I do not want them to get sick. I am not planning on getting another hamster anytime soon but in the future I might since I have an extra cage so I would like to disinfect it enough to where another hammie can live in there without getting sick. I heard that bleach was not good to use because the smell of the chemicals in bleach can harm the hammie. So any suggestions? Also, should I just throw away her water bottle or is it ok to just disinfect it also? And what about her igloo? I will obviously throw out all her chew toys and her bedding and such.

Is my hamster pregnant? I have two Robo hamsters. We were told they were both gals, but we think one is a boy because his butt is bigger and the "holes" are farther apart. She has made a nest and thats when i started thinking she is pregnant. She has never done that before. I put a wooden "hut" that i bought at Petgoods. Dwarf hamster cage help? Ok so I plan to get a Dwarf hamster. I'm not sure what gender. I'm going to use carefresh natural bedding. I plan to get the SAM Tasmania home, no not the dingo, jackeroo, etc, those are the smaller units I plan to buy the Tasmania which is bigger. I've read the reviews saying it was amazing! And I've read reviews saying it was terrible. Which is true? They wouldn't sell it if it really kills the hamsters would they? The reason I don't want a bar cage is my sister had one and was killed by the bars. And the reason I don't want a aquarium/glass cage is I have a cat and I want to attach tubes and accessories to the cage. My sister had a superpet bar cage and it died and so did my brother and it died of bar injury as well so I really don't want one of those. Also both my brother and sisters hamsters easily escaped from bother models of superpet cages. I've taken care of my friends SAM cage which was the smallest version and it was easy to clean and I loved it however I couldn't tell if the hamster loved it. I really like the down and under feature my friends hamster made underground tunnels in it. Would removing one of the bubble caps on the top help with ventilation? I'm pretty sure my cat couldn't get it through the top hole but could the hamster escape through a hole that high? Eventually I plan to buy another unit and attach it to the current one. Rat cage - how do i clean, used to be hamster cage.? I got this hamster cage off my mate cos he didn't want it anymore and it was big enough for a rat cage as i want a rat ;D but its got a bit of rust and the corners are a bit dirty. i've tryed scraping the dirt off with a knife and also rinsed the whole cage and a few of the accessories in hot water, under the shower :L how can i make sure that its a safe environment for when i get a rat. also theres quite a big crack in the middle but i recon it could be fixed.. how do you think i should do this? please helppp :D xx

What cage do you have for your hamster? I have a rotastack pirate ship cage, with an extra roof garden. It is quite big at the moment, but I would like some more accessories so I can swap them round to keep my hamster's interest. What cage do you have for your hamster, and can you suggest any more accessories for my hamster's cage. I have another question, but thought I may as well post it in this question too. I have just read that constant chewing of bars can cause brain damage, and I don't want my hamster to get brain damage. But she likes her chewing her cage, should I get rid of the bit that has bars, and replace it. I have tried chews but she doesn't like them because the are quite unsteady, whereas the bars do not move.

which hamster cage for 2 ROBOROVSKI HAMSTERS? hey, recently i got a pair of robos, to go with my 2 syrians, and i thought that i would get them a "proper" cage for my birthday. well, they are in a large plastic box - they are very happy btw. well ventilated aswell. so i thought...a fishtank...or a proper hamster cage. some pics. New Hamster? well, im asking my dad for some money to buy a new hamster cage and accessories for christmas. i curentley have 1 syrinnian hamster named Candi Canez. i have 2 cages i switch her to and fro currently, a habitrail safari ans a blue and white wire/ plastic one from habitrail. Can a hamster live in a guinea pig cage? I posted this question earlier and I don't know why it wasn't showing up :( Anyway, I have a chubby Syrian hamster and I want to buy him a bigger cage but there aren't any available in my area. All the cages in the pet stores near me are very small with very little room for an 8 inch wheel, toys and accessories. I'm going to have to order online if I want a big hamster cage which would cost me at least $200 including delivery and tax. I bought him a cage last month with tubes but he can't even fit through them :( He has a hamster ball but he doesn't really like it. He loves exploring my room. I let him out every night and he would go back inside his cage before he sleeps. Where / how can I get a simple, roomy wire hamster cage? I've been trying to find a wire hamster cage with a solid bottom, and lots of space for roaming. Rat cage - how do i clean, used to be hamster cage.? I got this hamster cage off my mate cos he didn't want it anymore and it was big enough for a rat cage as i want a rat ;D but its got a bit of rust and the corners are a bit dirty. i've tryed scraping the dirt off with a knife and also rinsed the whole cage and a few of the accessories in hot water, under the shower :L how can i make sure that its a safe environment for when i get a rat. also theres quite a big crack in the middle but i recon it could be fixed.. how do you think i should do this? please helppp :D xx

What's the best cage for a Syrian hamster? I have a new foster hamster (long story short: Guy bought her as ''live entertainment'' for his cats. The cats weren't amused!) Anyways, she's in a temporary cage that isn't good for long term use (more of like a traveling cage). She's a golden Syrian hamster, so I know she can get pretty big, and I'm just wondering what's the best cage(s) other hamster owners have found? Preferably something sold at Petco or PetSmart. I don't want a cage with a lot of plastic. I want a nice, wire cage with plenty of room for accessories, lots of air ventilation/circulation and for an appropriate sized wheel so Cosmo can run with comfort. Jay: The cage I'm currently keeping Cosmo in, is a wire cage, and she doesn't chew on the bars at all. When she's not sleeping, she's running on the wheel or eating. She's not a bar-chewer (luckily. I have had one in the past that was like that!) Everyone: I plan on a wire cage being a requirement for her. No tanks, and no cages made mostly out of plastic. Hamster has a small cage - How to keep him entertained? My hamster has a small-ish cage (not too restrictive, but small enough that there's only so many places he can go). It's a metal cage so there's nowhere to attach plastic tubes or things for him to explore. Are there any toys or accessories (or even things lying around the house) that I can give him to play with/to explore? It seems like he's getting bored in there. The cage has a wheel, a second "floor" where we keep his food and a ladder leading to it, a small house, and a chew toy (which he never uses). We also have a ball for him. Does anyone think this is obsessive why or why not??? ok, so i completey deoderize,disinfect, and clean my hamsters cage and accessories every 4 days. she gets new chew toys every 4 days as well. her water bottle and food dish are disinfected and washed out daily. her run about ball is disinfected after each use and i change her water every evening and evert morning.

Is my hamster afraid or sick? I just bought a 3 month old dalmation/fancy hamster from the local petstore. When I got him, he was really outgoing and you could hold him and everything. When I brought him home I had him in a cage that was a little to small for all of his accessories so I bought him a 2 story hamster cage that has a little house on the second level and I can fit all of his things in it now. Well, for some reason, he will burry himself under his shavings and sneeze and he also does it when hes not in his shavings to. He has got so now that he will go upstairs in his house and not come back down. Im not sure if hes cold or what but when he wakes up he will stair at me and click his teeth together and shake like hes either scared or cold. He is a male, im not sure if that would have anything to do with his behavior or not but I would really like to have him as happy as possible and right now I feel that he is not happy at all. Do you think that maybe another male hamster would make him happy? He was with his brothers when I bought him but I herd that hamsters are happier living alone. If anyone has any advice for me to make my little guy happy I would certainly appreciate it.

Getting Hamster. Any Tips? I had 4 hamsters when I was six and I am getting new ones and it has been a few years later. Thinking about getting a hamster/rat/mouse but which? I used to have a rat many years ago and that was probably the best pet I had... I was about 12. He died though. So I was thinking of getting a rat again. Do rats or mice bite because I don't want a rodent that will just keep biting me all the time. I've tried handling my sisters hamster but the bugger keeps biting me and it keeps taking me by shock causing me to nearly frigging drop it. My rat was fine though. Anyway yeah, what do you think. Hamster died after only 2 weeks, is it my fault? 2 weeks ago I bought a Syrian hamster for my son from a well known pet store. I paid £50 for the cage and £7.50 for the Hamster, then all the accessories totalled nearly £80. Its Christmas morning and my son has woken to find his hamster dead in the cage! He seemed fine, we never picked him up too much and I cleaned his cage everyday and washed the whole thing out just 2 days ago. Do you think I have done something wrong to kill it? I did everything according to the pet shop and I followed all and it was not mistreated in any way so can anyone tell me why it only lasted 2 weeks? Since we got it home, it has never been active, I was expecting noisy nights but the hamster always slept both night & day which I put down to his age, which was 8 to 10 weeks but he did sleep a lot, could this have been a symptom of an illness? Any help will be appreciated as I have a distraught 10 year old here and I can’t phone the shop as its Christmas day! Thanks in advance………….

Is this Boy or Girl Dwarf Hamster? I bought 2 male hamsters from petco and im questioning the sexes. First off they are "fancy dwarf hamster" which I think look like russian hamsters. 1 of the hamsters is social but smaller and lighter in color also very nice and doesnt bite. The other one is grumpy and bites and is larger. The bigger one looks like he has testies but not sure, cant pick him up because he bites. The smaller one doesnt seem to have testies but the 2 holes anus and penile hole seem distant instead of closer but i cant tell exactly from al the fur. Can the smaller hamster have testies just not noticeable? If they are boy and girl can i still keep them in the same cage? My parents wont let me by another cage and accessories. what should i do? should i return the boy to petco?

hamster eye problem??? PLEASE HELP? my golden hamster that i just got a few days ago, her eye seems a little swollen and shes not opening it. she can open it, when i tried to pick her up she did..but it goes right back to being closed. i use pine bedding, i think this may be the problem..but i know, after already spending almost $60 for the hamster and accessories, and gas money running back and forth to the store, my mom won't take me out to buy new bedding until this is gone. klark also sleeps with her head down, in the corner of her cage, so her face is right in the bedding..is there anything else i can use temporarily until i can get new bedding?? thank you!! also will the eye clear up on its own if i switch bedding??? my mom wouldn't take a hamster to the vet for anything. she doesnt want to spend money on a "rodent" she was fine when we got her, she was running around the cage with both eyes open, playing with her sisters. this has just happened since shes been here; they use aspen bedding at petsmart.

What cage is best for my two robo dwarf hamsters? im getting two robo dwarf hamsters(from the same litter) for my birthday. im trying to decide on the best cage. so should i get like a 10 gallon tank since they're so small? or should i get something bigger? i want the cheapest way that's best for the hamsters. because i also am getting other things for my birthday. i just don't know what the best cage is for the hamsters. im only getting the two hamsters and the cage for my birthday. im paying for the accessories myself with my own money. but anyway, the best cage would be....? thank you so much!

my hamster?? i got a hamster yesterday, only 5 weeks old!! i've named it charlie, anyways it seems to be a bit lively as it crawls around the top of the cage clinging onto the top of the cage, whats this a sign of?? and i think i may of pissed it off this morning as i went to check up on him and i think i may of woke him up as he was sqealing really loud and like crying, anyway i need some items for it aswell any1 giving away any free accessories for hamsters pleeease????

Things to do before i get a hamster? im thinking of buying a dwarf hamster, but before i do.. what are things i need to do before i bring him/her home? what accessories or food do i need etc. ? what telescope lens should i use? I recently aquired a telescope with accessories from my brother that he wasnt using and the instruction manual for this thing would be more useful in the bottom of a hamster cage. getting daughter a dwarf hamster-1st time owners! I'd like some advice/have some questions? I'm already aware that any 'wire grating' on the cage must be very small so that it won't escape...and that the smooth solid wheels are better than runged ones, so their legs/feet don't fall thru and get caught. BUT- **any personal experiences w/what brand/type is a better cage? (Habitrail?Crittertrail?S.A.M....etc) **will one hamster do well by itself, or should they be purchased as a 'pair'? (I know to not get a boy/girl combo-don't want any babies just yet! LOL) **Any advice/experience on what products/accessories are a total waste? What products are MUST HAVES? I got a hamster yesterday!! Need a few tips!? I got my hamster yesterday and I think she's doing fine, its supper time here so she is still sleeping, what time do they usually awake for the night? How long should I wait before putting him in the hamster ball thing and letting him roam around through the appartment? I've only held her a couple times and wasn't sure if this would scare her of if I should wait a few days. The reason I wanted to put her in one already was because I went out and bought some extra accessories today and wanted to put them in the cage but will need to take her out for a couple minutes to do this.. what do you think I should do? I also got some " Hamster fluff " and have it in the cage.. its like soft and cotton-ish.. but I heard it might be bad for them.. should I take it out? Ok I'll take the fluff out, should I put a bit of toilet paper in there? I'd tear it up first.. would they swallow that like they would the fluff?

Ok, so I haven't talked to my mom about getting a bunny yet because I'm trying to do some research I just have a couple of question, well maybe a few but anyway here they are... 1. My dad doesn't like rats but I love them! How do I convince him to let me get a couple? Rats are clean, sociable, friendly animals which love being handled and cuddled.. so why does my dad insist that they're dirty, nasty, selfish animals which bite and scratch and spread disease? I understand that wild rats carried fleas which were responsible for the plague but that was 100s of years ago and pet rats are totally different! The relationship between domestic rats and their wild cousins is like the relationship between Cocker Spaniels and Coyotes! I've offered to pay for everything.. the actual rats, the cage, food, accessories, toys, treats, disinfectants.. I've added it all up and the total comes to just over £100. That's fine! I have like £350 that's just been sitting around in my piggy bank for about a year.. I'm aware of the responsibility concerned in owning a pair of rats and I'm totally ready for it, I've owned many hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, cats etc. I think dad just doesn't like the way they look. He doesn't like them just because he thinks they're ugly and they're exactly the same as wild rats. What do I do? Please help out :) x P.S. I want pet rats because I already have 2 dogs, a cat and a rabbit. I'm allowed another pet though, it seems that dad would let me get any other small furry animal except a rat >.<
