Bird Cage Stand? Does anyone know where you can find a rather tall inexpensive stand for a bird cage? I would like to have something that will make my cage sit up taller than putting it on a table. Also- right now, I leave my birds in their cage during the day with the doors open so they can come out and play, and they have a small ladder that allows then to get back in. However, if i find a tall stand for their cage, what can I use to allow them to climb back up to their cage so I dont have to keep them cooped up all day? Any ideas would be appreciated!! by the way, both birds are still very young, and their wings are clipped. only one of them can flutter high enough to get back to their large cage from the floor. will they be able to get back to a play pen on the table from the floor?

Bird Cage? I have a quaker parrot, and am looking for a nice cage for him. Thick wires, a stand, built-in seed catcher, built in play-top (not opening roof with perch) and should be no more than 24" wide. Do you know of any other nice websites that would fit this criteria in a price under $200 or around there? I am already aware of Amazon, and am not willing to use eBay... so please other suggestions only! Thanks :-)!

I need help with a poem, I know why the caged bird sings? I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings A free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wing in the orange suns rays and dares to claim the sky. But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing. The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom. The free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and he names the sky his own. But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing. The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on Okay, according to the poem, how should the bird look, sound, feel, etc? How would you describe the bird based on the poem
What bird cage should I get? Hello, I am pretty set on a new larger cage I am getting for my lovebirds, but I wanted to see what insight I could get. Never hurts -- I really like this tall cage, that is about three feet wide, and about four feet tall. There is another cage this exotic bird store owner is pushing, that is about three feet by three feet, and he says it's better since lovebirds stay high anyway, and it comes with a stand that makes it a tad higher than the other one (which I can still put on something else ot make it higher. With the stand, both are about $150. There are other option salso -- one is a sturdier three by three foot cage with a stand and looks real nice and is the same price (but it does have a BIG door and I dont want to clip my birds' wings). And at Petsmart htey have these larger cages in now that are about two feet wide by two to three feet tall -- I dont like the width on them, though they look large compared to usual cages there. What do you guys have for lovebirds? thanks! And before you lecture me on getting two lovebirds, they are adopted birds who had no other home, and they love each other. They also have been playing with me, and are slowly getting used to me so I am not interested in the opinion that I should just have one bird, I think they are happy having a companion and a human friend and I take very good care of them. If I don't give them attention they cry out for me and get excited when I come over. They are NOT decorations to me simply because I have two, and they are not uncared for just because I don't force them to love only me. OK, I am sure people will still say I did something wrong, but my pets are all very loved. Their current cage, which I just got them in when I adopted them two weeks ago, is only two by two feet so I just need a better home for them, for more toys and so they can move their wings. I do plan on letting them out to fly a little in a safetly enclosed room. Hari: 'Take' a decision? Thanks Rhiannan: Three feet seems as big as I can find.. is that OK. I can keep looking for four feet if it's out there. Unlike terrariums, you can't really turn birdcages over, and they all seem skinny and tall ... thanks!!

What does the caged bird want to do? I KNOW what the caged bird feels, alas! When the sun is bright on the upland slopes; When the wind stirs soft through the springing grass, And the river flows like a stream of glass; When the first bird sings and the first bud opes, And the faint perfume from its chalice steals-- I know what the caged bird feels! I know why the caged bird beats his wing Till its blood is red on the cruel bars; For he must fly back to his perch and cling When he fain would be on the bough a-swing; And a pain still throbs in the old, old scars And they pulse again with a keener sting-- I know why he beats his wing! I know why the caged bird sings, ah me, When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,-- When he beats his bars and he would be free; It is not a carol of joy or glee, But a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core, But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings-- I know why the caged bird sings! How to build a bird cage? I have a parakeet and want to get another one but i think it would be fun to make the bird cage, considering i don't have $100+ to buy one. So the dimensions i have are 5 ft. height by 2 feet depth by 2 feet width. but the stand is 2 and a half feet height. it is all square and i want the top to be able to come off. and the bottom of the cage to slide out for easy clean up. any ideas? i need the material, average prices, and average times + any thoughts.
Appropriate bird cage? I have 4 cockatiels. I was give a very nice huge bird cage, the kind that stands on the floor. I would like to transfer the birds into the larger cage but I am worried because the bars on the cage have a space of 1inch in between them. Is that too much of a space between the bars for cockatiels? I don't want them to hurt themselves getting stuck or something like that.
What petsmart bird cage would you suggest for one Diamond Dove? Thank you for viewing my question! (: I'm thirteen years old, and I'm researching different birds and their housing requirements to see what would best fit my parents guidelines and restrictions. (They're only allowing the bird to be kept in the kitchen, so I don't think I'll be able to accommodate a bird who needs tons of space.) I know that we can afford to keep a Diamond Dove, so that's not a problem. Any extra tips or suggestions are appreciated! Here's a link to the petsmart bird cage page! Choosing a Finch Bird Cage? My mom wants some finches for her birthday! I'm in charge of arranging everything and I need some help choosing cages. We're going with either 2 zebra or silver-bill finches and she plans to hang the cage from a stand. I have found several cages, I'm just not sure which is best. If somebody who keeps birds could give me advice on which of the following would be the best cage for the birds and the money, I'd be so thankful! If i can't find the owner i want to get him a cage. i have had birds before so yeah. so which cage is better to get http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/for/1250560078.html or http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/for/1244679567.html eventually i want to get him a parakeet or another cockateil so is the cage with the stand going to be able to hold them or no. should i even bother getting another bird will he become antisocial (he is really friendly) and if i don't get another bird which cage do you think is better? thanks
Bird questions (cage size, or does he want to fly outside?)? My bird's cage is about 3 ft (wide) x 2 ft (depth) x 3 ft. tall (inner cage height only), not including the stand. My bird is a small species of parrot and there are two (one male, one female), but only one of them looks like it really wants to fly (the male). We got the male at 1-year old and he seems pretty used to me already (I give them all food, water, clean the cage, almost everyday) and he looks like he trusts me. They are housed with 3 canaries. We have only had the male for about 8-9 months, so I think he may be used to flying outside of the cage (maybe the breeder used to let him do that?) Should I let him do that too? The female bird has never flown outside of the cage and she hardly flies at all now (is she just older? or has she not flown in a while, so she just stopped?) Also, the male sometimes chirps loudly and the female starts to fly, but she falls to the the cage floor, as if he was trying to make her fly and she was trying, but couldn't? The one I believe wants to fly always walks to the very edge of the cage (towards me) when I am there and he looks like he wants more space to fly (he bites around the door, clings to the cage walls for a few seconds, flies away, chirps loudly, repeats the same actions over again), but I'm not sure if he wants a bigger cage or if he wants to come outside. If he does, is it safe to let him out? (I would cover all windows, clear things like glass, cover up furniture with a blanket or something so he doesn't poop on them (the room I want to let them out in is pretty clean and other people wouldn't be happy to find poop there; and neither would I want to be cleaning it), and maybe also bring out some toys). If so, should I let him jump out of the cage when he wants, or take him out? And how could I get him back in the cage? We also took him outside of the house (rolled the cage out of the door for about 5-10 min) and I couldn't tell if he liked it. Although I think the canaries were scared so I took them inside. So maybe he wants to go outside again? or is he just overall playing, being happy, jumping around and chirping? or should I let him out of the cage? or does he need a bigger cage? Sorry for the long question. Please answer. Oh sorry I forgot to mention. My birds are Bourke's parakeets and they are known to be very friendly animals, especially with other birds, so I already know as much as they are safe. But I have also wanted to get another bird cage for the canaries to be separately housed anyway. And I am a responsible bird owner. I would never even risk them in any danger. But I do agree that I should tame my bird more before letting him out at all. Forgot again: And yes, I would never leave my birds unattended in any setting besides their normal in-cage setting. As I mentioned, I am very cautious in the care of my birds.
I don't want to use a bird cage? I want to keep a bird as a pet. Is it possible to simply keep it on a free standing perch instead of keeping it in a cage? Will doing that mean that I'll have to keep its wings clipped? Any advice you can give is most helpful.

Newspapers at the bottom of Bird Cage? I have a couple of Finch birds. I used to put the newsappers at the bottom of the cage under the grate but they kept pooping on the edges or sides of the cage so now I am putting the newspapers on the grate to ensure covering all the sides of my cage , however, this makes my birds in direct contact with the newspapers as they will stand on it and may walk over the dropped poop so Im wondering about the risk of ink and poop when the birds get in direct contact with the newsappers..any advice?
How does a Bird sleep in a Cage? Does it manage to sleep in its standing position, or sitting, and manage to stay in that position without tipping over or something? How do they do it? I look at my bird and it is always sitting on its little branch thing, and I figure it sleeps on it too. Is this how they sleep? On a stick in the air, and manage to maintain their balance while sleeping without tipping or falling over??
Can I use these shelves in my bird cage? Hi guys I just got a new cage for my birds.. it's a nice big cage.. technically it's supposed to be used for rats/chinchillas but it will work perfect for the birds.. This is the cage that I got... http://prevuepet.com/item-info.asp?Category_id=0&Product_ID=1620 ... my question is you see those shelves in the cage? Could I put one or two of those in the cage for them to stand on? Will it hurt them to put one or two of them in the cage? I figure it would be a nice place to rest so they don't have to hold the perches all the time.. Would it be okay? I have a ton of perches for them to put in the cage.. I wasn't planning on using the ramps just the shelf... this cage is huge compared to what they are in now and I know it's okay to use it for them just was wondering about the shelf..

I am hoping to move a Sun conure into the cage, but I understand my iguana has left some bacteria and other things I need to remove. I called the petstore and they said to powdercoat it, however. I just dont have 300$ or more to do this for my cage, so would a simple cleaner and a power wash suffice? ... Or please tell me how to clean my cage, so its safe for my bird, before I buy it and bring it home. - I do not wish to harm the animal, because of a mistake like this. Please help :)
How to Buy a Bird Stand? I recently took in a Great Billed Parrot that was being neglected by someone I know. I am now wanting to buy a bird stand (not sure if that's what it's called). I'm talking about the stand that you can put a parrot on so that they can be out of their cage. Is there any specific type that I should get? Should it have food and water cups? What about toys? Any advice is appreciated.
WHta are the poetic devices in i know why the cagesd bird sings? I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings The free bird leaps on the back of the win and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wings in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky. But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing. The caged bird sings with fearful trill of the things unknown but longed for still and is tune is heard on the distant hillfor the caged bird sings of freedom The free bird thinks of another breeze an the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and he names the sky his own. But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom. Maya Angelou Are there any hyperboles????????
Can the Bird perch that feel like sand paper hurt the birds leg grip? My 3 year old conure started to limb all of a sudden. My husband says it is because of the sandy covered perch. The bird has had this perch for 2 years. It is small on the side of the cage, he stands on it to look at his imagine in his mirror. He is limbing on his left foot when walking on the table
What is the Rhyme Scheme for the poem "Caged Bird" by Maya Angelou? How do I get a nasty bird back into it's cage thing.? My stupid Sister begged me to take care of her nasta** bird so she could go to Jamaica and do it with black guys because all the guys here in America think she is too fat and don't care for that. It's true though- her butt is so big that I literally have to dry heave if she like turns around near me. Also, she wears her pants so tight you can see her underpant lines. It is especially gross because she picks her underpants out of her butt crack like every 5 minutes. Her underwears are all stained too...but that's another story all together. Anyway- This bird is what's called African Grey (it's not a black bird, even though it's African...but it's still vicious). Anyway, I just opened the door to take its water out and when I turned around the thing was standing ON TOP of his cage. I am terrified. This bird has crazy eyes and is mean to me. It has a sharp beak and I'm scared to try and scoop it up and stuff it back inside. I have a date with Bill Potter in less then an hour...Oh, and OMG ladies is he ever gorgeous! A total stud! He took me out last week on a date and we went to the Red Barn for ALL YOU CAN EAT shrimp AND Scallops! He spent $15.00 on dinner alone. Afterwards we went next door to the bar and I go SO smashed on Peppermint Shnopps! It was so funny. I don't think we like had sex or anything, but there was definately some petting. I would have though, and maybe tonight I'll put out...I dunno yet. We will see where he takes me for dinner first. Anyway, this bird is standing here making eveil eyes at me. I'm scared if I leave it out it might fly into the ceiling fan, but if I turn the ceiling fan off, then it gets WAY too hot in here and when I come back tomorrow it will be very very warm and I don't care for that. How can I get this thing back in it's cage? I placed a piece a bread in the cage (The good Arnolds Brand) but it doesn't seem to care for it, and I gotta get out of here- Someone please help. Oh yeah- please don't tell me to try and tackle it or noting. It's beak is very sharp looking.
How to keep a bird safe from cats? I now have a little budgie. I also have cats. I want to keep the little guy safe, but I also want to keep him in the living room where he is around the humans all the time and a real part of the family. I have thought of a ceiling hook or a cage stand, but I don't know how safe the stands are.
I'm looking at a bird for a pet..? What kind of bird is best.. I'm looking to spend no more than 500 for bird and cage/stand.. :-\ what is a good bird?? Also any other ideas of good small pets. Can't have a ferret or guinea pig..
Is my parakeet afraid of his new toy? I just got a parakeet 2.5 weeks ago and recently bought him a toy parakeet to put in his cage. Since I put the toy in the cage my bird stands in the same position as the toy bird and just stares at it. Should I take it out of the cage or not worry about it?
Bird Cage, Need to sell, Can you help? I recently got a parakeet cage. Its too small. The bird can climb about but he cant fly around. My mom is getting me a new bird cage for 150 buchs and it is all together including the stand 59 inches tall. 32 inches long. and 22 inches wide. Its better than 14 by 14 by 16. Anyways. I was going to sell it for 30$. I bought it for 40$. And havnt used it a lot since I recently go it. 1.) Is 30 bucks a good price? Its coated white with 1 perch, feed/water bowels that have a hood on them, a bell, a latter, and a toy. Is it good or make it more? 2.) Where can I sell it at? What places will buy it. I have tryed the store I got it from but they wonttrake it since its been used. Craigslist I put it on and I am azfraid that there are scamers. They always ask my address and can I send you a cheack via mail? WHat are good place to call or go on in OHIO areas?
Do you think this Havana Flight bird cage is worth it? http://www.birdcages.com/bird-cages/small-bird-cages/havanaflightcage.cfm I'm planning on getting two parakeets or two diamond doves and I want them to have a big cage. I will still take them out every day so they can get real exercise. I find that bird cages online are the same quality as ones in the store, but are a lot cheaper. I do have to assemble it myself, but I don't mind. Smaller cages that are only 14"W x 18"D x 20" H are about $50 not even including the stand which is way too much for something that small. This one is 31"W x 22"D x 35"H, includes the stand, is a lot better quality and obviously bigger, and is $154.99. I would keep it in good shape by cleaning it a lot and plan on using it for as long as it's standing. Do you think it's a good deal? $7.00 shipping on all cages from this site.
Is this cage big enough for 2 Cockatiels? http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BIRD-CAGE-CAGES-18x14x61-W-STAND-1450VL-WHITE_W0QQitemZ400090011371QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5d273916eb It's 18x14x36" is that big enough? I only have one now but am thinking about getting 2. Maybe I'll get a parakeet for him instead of a cockatiel..... idk. Big enough?
Bird cage Suppressor or Bennie Cooley Tactical Compensator for AR-15? I'm on the market for an AR-15, and want to get the best I can, as well as making mine stand out a bit. Granted it won't make much difference one way or the other, but I have to chose one for my barrel. Since the manufacture has granted me a choice in the matter, I want to fully understand what it is that I'm buying, and be happy with my purchase. The thing it, the standard "bird cage" suppressor doesn't have the same appeal as the Bennie Cooley Tactical Compensator; if it doesn't make much difference one way or the other, why should I go for the standard bird cage? Certainly the Compensator has something going for it, right? Thanks!
I know why the caged bird sings? I read the poem "I know why the caged bird sings" by Maya Angelou. I was wondering what this poem stands for, and what literary devices were used in this poem?
can this rabbit huch be uesd as a bird cage? in going to get a budgerigar and want it to have a big cage i also have a 2 year old rabbit cage (that my parents bought for my sisters bunny she moved out with the bunny i was thinking i could use it for my bird here are the measurements: width 55 cm hight inc. legs 92cm hight without legs 59 cm hight of legs 31 cm length 1 m 14 cm there is a partition 38 cm in from the left side also the wire mesh on the fount of the cage is too big so i would have to replace that there is a lid on the top which i would padlock shut so if someone knocks it is wouldn't unlock i know it wouldn't make the ideal bird cage thats why its a rabbit cage not a bird cage but is it possible as I don't have that much money and a good decent size and quality bird cage is quite expensive is it not so if i could it would save me lots of money it also has a pull out draw so thats good and i would put perches with varying sizes (so he doesn't get foot cramp from standing on the same sized perch) will it work?
i have some bird cage questions and key words that somebody needs explain? what is a small pacifier, and what is a cuttle bone, and is a mineral treat required and if a get a cage from argos it is ok? you see hopefully soon i am going to get a baby budgie and i am picking out a cage i am going to get a cage that is 45.1 in height, 26.7 in width, and 33.7cm in d (sorry i don't know what the D stands for) any way it has a shaggy kabob, a small pacifier, two feeding cups, calcium perch and sand perch, acrylic spinners, five step ladder, mineral treat, cuttle bone, and copper bell. my question is - is the toys enough and is it big enough for one budgie and can you please exclpain what all the stuff in the cage above mean? thank you so much!!! you guys aren't telling me if it's big enough for my budgie! you guys aren't telling me if it's big enough for my future budgie
Can this cage (link/picture included) fit two cockatiels? I'm thinking of getting two cockatiels. I want just one cage so i was wondering if this cage below could fit two cockatiels in it, please if i need a larger cage if you could just go on petsmart.com and show me what cage would be the right size for two cockatiels...that would be wonderful! I need the cage to fit on a coffee table...please no stands as i don't have a high budget...those cages with stands tend to be on the way higher end. I just want my cockatiels to be healthy and happy and have enough room. They will be let out in a small room just about every day for excersice. Please all answers would be appreciated but NO rude answers and NO answers that do not protain to this question. Thank you so much! I appreciate it very much! Oh, i forgot...Here is the link to the cage that i was thinking of getting... If it is too small please search on petsmart's website only for the right size of a bird cage and i don't really have an exact budget but nothing that's too overly overpriced... http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754303#RatingsDetail
Where can I find a cheap bird gym/lay stand? I'd really like manzanita. It has to be a floor stand, not table top or cage top. The only ones I've found were almost $200 and that's not even including s&h. I meant play, not lay. Why do I always do that! Byw, manzanita isn't a kind. It's a wood. That doesn't grow in MD. And it's hard to find.
should i get a male or female bird? im thinking of getting a parakeet, but am not sure if i should get a male or female...which one is more affectionate/ friendly...is one gender louder than the other?? also, i have a dog, and i was wondering if i keep the bird in my room on a shelf/stand in the cage, do you think my dog would try to attack it?? when i would let if out, i would close my room door, and keep my dog out for a while...i need help...thanks!
We took a wild bird in.? We came home and this little bird was standing right in front of our door. My 6 year old approached it. I had not seen it yet when my daughter was huddling over to protect it. Without much fight my husband cradled it. We did not have a bird cage nor know why it was not flying away. It did hid for a few hours then found it literally right under our toes. Well actually my husbands feet while I was at work. We kept it for the next few days. We put the bird in our old hamster’s cage. We gave it water and seeds. The bird would chirp ever so sweetly. So calming that is did not interrupt anyone’s sleep. Last night I started covering the cage with a light towel so that it is not disturbed. About an hour ago my husband renewed the water as I looked online for other sources of food for wild birds. The bird seemed to like the change and was perched on the edged of the water. The girls ask why is our bird sleeping on it's side. I ask how can this inoccent living being be gone? I was not able to finish. I just can't tell you enought the pain I feel. I want a good answer, too bad it can't be from God.
I am watching the movie "The Bird Cage" starring Gene Hackman and Robin Williams? Does anyone else think that Mitt Romney could stand in for Gene Hackman as the Right Wing Senator in this movie and how funny would that be in this election year? Hackman plays a Rwing Senator whose daughter gets engaged to a man who was raised by two gay men, Robin Williams and another actor I don't recall, who own a drag queen club. While meeting the boy's gay parent's at the apartment above the club the paparazzi gain wind of Hackman and his wife's presence and he is forced to leave undercover in drag. This is funny but the real story is watching the characters sort out all the nonsense as the fiances and two sets of parents hash out all the drama leading up to Hackman's drag revue. NOW can you see Mitt Romney in this role?

Dogs and bird seed? I have two cockatiels in a large cage in my living room, they tend to make a huge mess everyday with their bird seed. It has seeds, fruit, veggies and nuts in it. I vacuum everyday to keep it cleaned up as best as I can but my dogs (boxers and poms) love to scavenge around the bottom of the cage stand and eat the bird seed and things!! I don't think it's harmful and I have heard of another dog in my family that does this and she if fine also. Do any of you have this going on in your house? Any side affects?!! OH, the seed also has raisins in it but I pick those out and throw them away, I don't want the dogs getting those for sure!! Thanks!! =0)

How long do cockatiels live? I have a gorgeous, perfect, adorable and cuddly female white and yellow cockatiel. Shes 13, and in perfect health, v happy and sprightly with perfect fluffy feathers. She lives on seeds, millet sprays and daily treats of vegetables, fruit, crisps, er chocolate etc etc (only thing she doesnt seem to like is tomato and mackeral!). She has a big cage but gets out daily for at least 4 to 5 hrs a day but usually much more as cant stand to see birds caged for long, and shes the baby of the family so we'd miss her if she wasnt out!!! She gets lots of cuddles, and attention, and is a v affectionate little thing! Ive been reading the average lifespan seems to vary massively from 15 to 33......(cudnt bear to lose her at 15, id thought the minimum wud be at least early 20's which has me panicing slightly). But as i said shes v healthy and seems as young as ever. How old has it been ppl's experience that cockatiels live? lol i dont sit and feed it choc, but it will steal some if im eating it as it does with everything! Just about every cockatiel site mentions the same, including them stealing and eating choc! :)

When can my 2 cockatiels leave the cage for the first time? I was just opening the cage door to clean out their food bowl, and the male freaked out, then went back to eating. When I came back 2 minutes later, the female was standing right on the hinge of where the door opens. How much longer should I wait to let them out of the cage? (I got these birds from a woman who's raised them 2 years, since birth. I got them 4 days ago, and they're starting to get used to me.)

When will my dog stop freaking over our new bird?? I have a 5 yr old Pomeranian Jack. When I got Jack as a baby, I had a parakeet in a cage in the kitchen and he never thought twice about it. A few months ago I got 2 more parakeets in their own cage and he doesnt care about them. At the same time, I got a finch who is in a cage in the kitchen. He FREAKS out over this bird! He stands on his hind legs, pants, gets all riled up over it. It's been over a week and he will spend all day balancing on his hind legs to get a closer look at this bird. Anyone know what it is about this bird that is driving him nuts or when he'll get over it???
My bird has become mean and reclusive, and it is scary!? I have a female pearl cockateil! She is around 4-6 years old (I can not recall) I have been her primary owner all her life! my family and I went on a 3 day vacation! When we left on Monday we gave her plenty of food and water in two extra dishes as well! Some cleaning maids came by the next day and vacuumed or whatever! When we got home today, she was at the bottom of the cage was an egg, this is normal, we get at least 3 from her per month. But this time she was acting weird! She was at the very bottom of her cage standing up, rocking from foot to foot. Her beak was open and she was acting menacing whenever I would walk by. I changed her still full trays of water and food and removed the dead egg (it was not fertilized) But, she is still acting the same way and if I try to do anything with her or her cage she freaks out and pumps up her wings and attacks me! She was ma little mean before but never cruel! What on earth could have happened and how can I reverse this? HELP!!!
My bird injured her leg how can I help her to heal? I have a parakeet who is about 6 years old. A week ago she got her foot stuck on a toy and flew off and continued to fly off despite the fact that her foot was stuck. So, to sum up she injured her leg to the point that she can't even walk or do anything on it. Although she is adjusting well by crawling up the sides of her cage with her beak and the other leg I am wondering if this leg will ever heal or will she be like this forever. When she stands on her perch her leg is kinda lifted to the side. If there are any suggestions on ways to help they would be appreciated as I cannot afford a vet since I am in college.
My Budgies cage? Ive bought a Hagen Vision 210 cage and its excellent, the only thing im worried about is that there is 4 corner perches and nothing else, take a look at this http://www.ukpetsupplies.com/Details.aspx?CatId=342&ParentId=341&ProdId=129# Basically it comes with a video on how to set it up etc, and the one they have as example has 2 birds in it, they fly from corner to corner of the perches and look out the plastic corners or go in the bath etc, but normally you see bird cages with perches going accross so they have somewhere to stand in the middle, Is it best to let them stand in the edge bits and see outside and be able to have enough room to fly around (trust me its big) or should i make some perchest for them to stand on?
Sparrow will not leave for the winter, any ideas? I have been watching a small sparrow the last couple of months around my feeder. He was always left setting on the fence when the other birds left for the day. He would go after they left go set in the feeder and eat. After he got his fill he would go stand on the fence in the vines. He is still here and right at the minute setting in the feeder. He will go back to the vines for the night. I have went out there many times and he will fly away but always comes back. I have let the feeder run empty and he just hangs out on the fence. So I guess I could starve him to death or he will freeze this winter. I do have an extra bird cage and have thought about setting a trap. Keep him inside till spring and let him back out. Any ideas? And for the super smart brains out there with the quick kill it answers.... Just keep it to your self. OK.. If you want to take the time to explain why I should kill it then I’ll read it. If it is just a smart answer to get points I will have to report it. Scott S that was about as dumb as it comes. But cute. Tyler, there are only two types of sparrows that don't migrate and they are not from central USA. For sure not in NW Arkansas. http://www.adfg.state.ak.us/pubs/notebook/bird/sparrows.php However being everyone seems to agree with you I will dig a little deeper and see if it is one of the non migrating. Really good answers so far. So far I have only had to report two for "Threats of Violence and violating the question". After reading up on these birds I find there are many that are winter birds. This one in my yard is a, House sparrow Passer domesticus. I still have not found if he is a winter bird or not.
my bird keeps rubbing mirror? I have had a parakeet for a year and a half now and we bought a mirror for him with stand for him to stand on infront of the mirror. we bought it for him about 2 months ago. Two days ago a saw him rubbing it with his head and putting his beak on it. And he always stands in front of it. Does he think it is a mate? Are parakeets good with other parakeets or birds inside there cage.
Help!!! there is somthing wrong with my bird!? ok, my female parakeet, (a small bird) is standing on one foot. now, i know that they stand on one foot all the time, when they are roosting, but my bird has been easy with her left foot, she will not walk on it, land on it, or even balance with it, she has just let it hang down, i know it is probly not broke, as she still moves it about once an hour, too a new position, but just does not stand on it. i looked at it, and i do not see no blood, or a bruse. what could be wrong? she has been doing it for about 2 days now, i am starting to worry, as i do not have enough money for a vet, nor do we want to lose her, cuz out of 3 green birds that died, she is the only left, the rest are blue. this has been going on for about 2 days now, and yes, i keep the cage clean and water and food filled fresh all the time. help!!!!!!!
How does the following paragraph flow while reading it??? No wonder they both had slept so soundly all the way through this flight. Poor kids. The last few weeks had been a whirlwind of activities and planning, packing and preparing. Even Legalo's rabbits were now in the care of their neighbour, Mr.Jones who had told the boy that since he had a lot of caged birds to look after in his own home, rabbits wouldn’t pose a problem for him. Between the two of them a long and drawn-out conversation had followed, there, standing in the back yard. It had truly been a kodak-moment. Legalo had lifted feed dishes out of the cage, had pointed to what food was to be served in what dish. How store-bought food could not be mixed in with table scraps. And how much the bunnies liked clean water. Carefully considerate tales the neighbour had flown past Legalo, about how fussy birds could be and how much better they sang once the cages had been cleaned, had been convincing enough for the serious rabbit owner to leave the care of his critters into neighbourly hand
On the bird stand? SInce the nail di dnot bleed on the bird stand I left him all night there. Is that ok. How long after I applied the styptic powder can I put him back in the cage. Will he bleed again? I am a new owner and I dont know what to do. I am going to the Bird store and get the styptic powder. DO I take him there to show him to the person at the store. I have a Cockatiel Bird, soon to be one year old next month, and her nails are long.? I have a beautiful Cockatiel bird that I hand raised from a chick. She's going to be one year next month. I have trimed her nails several times, but they grow so fast, and now, they're so long, when she stands flat footed on a table, the tips of her little toes doesn't touch the table, but are held up by her long nails, and her first two toes are layed a bit side ways 'cause that nail is long. The quick is down low, and I can't trim alot of her nail off. What can I do to solve this problem, and get them shorter? Oh, and one more question: I clean her cage on a regular basis, and what is a good cleaner to bring off the birdy poo from around the bottom of the cage? I've used stiff brushes and bleach to try to bring it off, but it doesn't bring all of it off.
Dpes anyone own a parrot and know how ? Does anyone owning a parrot know how to dissolve bird droppings off the catch all of the bird cage? I tried to teach my severe macaw to hang out over the trash can, but it keeps insisting on standing on the cage and squatting, I cant always catch it when it is fresh,,,,,and Im tired of just scraping with those stupid credit cards they send ya in the mail. Gets to the point its bonded to the metal or something,,,,,,, OOPS sorry, wasnt the spelling, it was the typing,,,,,, so i suppose I need to buy Mavis Beacon learn to type CDrom
